  1. I'm following this thread to be alerted immediately of any progress you post here!
  2. Will the change of seasons and the soil moisture map effect how fires burn? If it was very dry and the soil was parched, then there was a player created or natural spark in all the kindling laying around from the autumn leaves, would that change how fire reacts? Probably asking for too much here and likely isn't worth developing, but if you had to worry about a fire and zombies!!! EDIT: Double Post
  3. Is it possible to change the mod to not require sugar to make a 'Hot Drink'. I regularly make coffee without sugar. Perhaps adding sugar could have an additional energy boost since sugar contains calories? EDIT: I saw your post here http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/10047-hot-drinks/ and I love the idea! I read this post before the above mentioned one. So disregard this comment
  4. I think it makes sense that sugar should add some value to the coffee. It adds, if nothing else, calories and those are needed.
  5. We should be able to start fires with gas, other than just the zombie corpses. I can't tell you how many fires I have started in RL with gas, but its a lot.
  6. Just what the title suggests. I feel that when burning corpses, they extinguish too quickly. Does anyone else feel this way?
  7. I don't think you would need a way to bind the logs together. A simple enough notch can be taken out of each log with the axe to create a joint between the logs. Check out this link to see some diagrams and instructions on building a log cabin: http://outlands.tripod.com/farm/logcabin.htm Some railroad spikes that I harvested from the railyard or tracks could def be useful though!
  8. I suggest that to make coffee or 'hot cuppa', we should not need sugar. I make coffee virtually everyday without sugar! Maybe sugar could be a 'spice' to coffee/tea like salt and pepper are? You don't need sugar, but it'll give you additional energy etc if you use it.
  9. By any chance does anyone know if this is compatible with build 28 yet?
  10. We need the ability to put out fires if we are gaining the ability to set more things (corpses) on fire! Recently on a RP MP server with a friend, he made the remarkably good idea of running through our cook fire. He then could not extinguish the fire on himself and ran to our rain barrels (which of course were next to our safe house). The rain barrels and the safe house burned and there was a lot of damage to his character. Simply, if I'm on fire and I have a bottle of water on me, I bet I could use that to douse some of the flames. I would also do a 'stop, drop, and roll' to smother any flames. If neither of these worked, I would still have the option of taking/ripping off my clothes, which is probably the part that is actually on fire. I might even try that first. I should be able to put out fires using water, sand/dirt, and by smothering the flames. With the upcoming expansion of the use of fire, we need a way to combat it if it gets out of hand! We found a mod that allows us to put out fires using water and dirt/sand, but it appears to not be compatible with v27.2. We both verified that the mod was working in our SP sandbox games, but it would not work during MP. We need to be able to shoot up/down a level! Recently there was a number of zombies outside our safe house. I went out on our catwalk that is around our outer perimeter and tried to shoot them from above. I couldn't do it! We really should be able to do this IMHO! Maybe with the upcoming updates to the shooting system the devs thought of this?
  11. Of course we would all prefer it, but how likely is that to happen? Maybe in an totalitarian government where the people are more afraid of the government than they are of zombies...
  12. In the event of any apocalyptic scenario there would be an extreme shortage of medicine for mental disorders. Your local pharmacy would run out quick and with production and delivery of new medicine halted, there would be a lot of untreated mentally disturbed people running around. Will there be a few nut-case NPCs? Ones that maybe defy logical decisions? Maybe that could be a negative trait for our characters? Causing hallucinations (seeing zombies/NPCs that aren't there), anxiety, depression, etc? Not a major issue, but something that I would think would be cool have implemented.
  13. Ill start by saying Im a soldier, and a father of two boys aged 10 and 5. In a zombie outbreak the 'governemt' can go Eat A Big Bag of Di-err Doritos. Im going to protect my children, not guard some water source and attack fellow Australians by some person's orders. I cant see any of the people I work with doing that either. I guess Im saying that the idea any soldier who would stick around in an environment youre describing and support it is hardly human. Serrate Bloodrage, you have it right! The idea that there is going to be an all powerful government response is absurd. Anyone remember Hurricane Katrina or Sandy here in the US? Those were regional disasters in which the mighty United States government was woefully slow and unprepared to send aid immediately. There wasn't even a threat of zombies, just some looters. Realistically, after the first day or two of losing a quarantine fight, the military would be riddled with deserters who are more concerned with their families and themselves. Serrate Bloodrage is a soldier and he said it right. Police and other public servants? Since they would be less centralized and under-equipped, they most likely will leave their posts before the military does. The national guard, the active military, public service employees; they would all crumble and run like the rest of us. Once the leaders realize they are losing, they'll fall back and defend what they can. Most likely try to maintain and defend a few strategic resources, or some high ranking officials, not the general populace. This is assuming they even have an army at this point. The only way the government would be able to stop something like a zombie outbreak is if they responded immediately and were able to quarantine the infected zone completely. With their past record, I doubt that would happen. After all we are extremely effective at securing our borders (sarcasm)... Anyone watch the news lately on how tens of thousands of children can sneak past our patrols and surveillance? Unassisted children... We can't watch everywhere and we can't control everywhere. If we could we wouldn't have issues at our borders, our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq would have ended quickly and not lasted over a decade. There wouldn't be an thriving black market drug trade in the US. It's just naive to think that with zombies running around we would somehow clamp down tighter and be more effective at it. Everyone has to remember that the government and our military are just people like you and me. The government is not an all powerful place and force, it is comprised of citizens just like us. They are human with all the faults that all humans have. Sure there are some who put duty ahead of live and family, but most soldiers are just 'kids' trying to better their lives. In the face of a zombie apocalypse I really want to hope they'd stay at their posts and follow orders, but you have to be realistic and realize that they are humans just like us. What we need is a robotic army! Terminator anyone? Trade one apocalypse for another...
  14. The first thing most people are going to do is try to flee. Everyone has this misconception that out in the hills/forests there aren't any people and that there is ample food everywhere. Good luck getting there. All the roads will be parking lots and trains wont be running for long. Not to mention the local inhabitants (who are probably better armed than you and know their local surroundings) not liking the idea of 'outsiders' showing up on the doorsteps. My plan, since I live in a major metropolitan area, is to 'Anne Frank' it for awhile. I live almost on top of a hill in a house that is surrounded by fences. Not impervious, but it is relatively easy to defend. The key will be making no reason for any zombies or looters to come a knocking. I have a well ventilated attic with a ceiling drop door/ladder. No zombie will get up there, and will be very easy to defend against brigands/looters. I have enough stored oats, rice, and water on hand to last my wife and dog for about 2 months (I should invest in more). We also have common gauge firearms. 12 gauge shotguns and .22 caliber pistols/rifles. By that time most of the people will be zombies, or have died off from starvation. Hell you don't even need zombies. If you just kill the electricity the majority of the population in the United States will be dead within a few short months. I will then take our motorcycles (we have aggressive sport enduro bikes) to my airport where I work as a pilot. Airports have a pretty good defensive posture already. All should have fences surrounding them already and they usually have very good line of sight around them. I know how to start most General Aviation aircraft without a key and will be airborne above everything and heading North to as desolate a location as possible. I live within range of a GA aircraft to some very very rural areas of Canada. The problem will be food, fuel, and the climate once I get there. Life will be hard, very hard. The good news is that GA fuel (100LL) is one of the most stable fuel types around. It can last (if stored properly) for almost 8 years. Regular automotive gas is good for at best 6 months to a year. http://www.empcommission.org/docs/empc_exec_rpt.pdf This is a report commissioned by the United States to study the dangers of an EMP strike on the US. Essentially if we turn off the electricity we will be back in the 19th century. The technology of the 19th century can NOT support our current population levels even if it was working at peak efficiency. Without ample work animals, skilled labor on out-dated technology, and communication; it will not be working at peak efficiency. There will be massive deaths due to starvation. Good luck harvesting, let alone transporting all the food from the United States 'breadbasket'. Most of it will just rot in the fields. The population will drop to a point where the technology can support the level of population. That's not even discussing the massive deaths there would be to the elderly, the diabetics, the people with asthma, heart conditions, etc because of the lack of readily available medication. Throw in the lack of medication for all the mental disorders and we'd have nutcases running around unchecked. Point is; shit is going to be real bad, really really bad, real quick. We don't even need zombies. Everyone should have a few months of properly stored grains and water in there homes regardless of the fictional zombie threat. Solar flares, EMP's, viral outbreaks, war, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and tornadoes are all more realistic threats that will ruin your life and the lives of your loved ones. Consider some basic survival items as an insurance policy. Odds are you you'll never need to use them, but just like your car insurance, you have it just in case you need it. You just hope you never have to...
  15. I know that is has been mentioned that in the future we will be getting movable 'wheelie bins' and that we should have the ability to move furniture, but I was hoping that this could eventually apply to all the objects in the world. I would love to be able to move a couch behind a door to prevent players/zombies from getting in, to be able to roll cars into place once they are implemented and create barriers (virtually all cars have a manual override to put them into neutral. There is usually a small access panel somewhere near the shifting mechanism that allows mechanics/tow drivers to put 'dead' vehicles in neutral. Obviously manual cars you can just press in the clutch), to pile up beds, grills, boxes, shelves, etc to create obstacles for zombies and players. You can use this to beef up your defenses and you can create deathtraps that funnel players and zombies into your kill zone. Sure you can do this now, but you need to build walls to do it and that is just excessive and a waste when you can do it with objects just laying around. It would also be cool if moving these by yourself created a lot more noise than if moved with an additional player/NPC. By yourself you'd have to drag a couch, but with a friend you could do it a lot more quietly by picking it up. Also, I suggest that we should be able to climb over a lot more obstacles than we currently can. I can't tell you how many times I've been annoyed that I can't just walk over a couch/chair or climb over a bar/counter. The ability to hop over obstacles is already programmed in. We just can only do it on windows and fences. Being able to climb a chain-link or house fence for a 27 year old that is in shape should not be a problem either. Maybe overweight players wouldn't have that option? We shouldn't be able to take down a chain-link fence with a sledgehammer, but we should be able to climb over one. I realize that some of these ideas would change the game play a bit, but I think they are feasible to develop and realistic to implement in this game world. It would expand the options on style of play and make the game more realistic and immersive IMHO.
  16. I recently read that there is a programmed 'decompose' time added that overtime will eliminate both blood and corpses, but that it is currently disabled. I like that idea, but I still think that rain should wash away blood stains outdoors faster and that we could use bleach/dish rag indoors to clean up blood faster. Good to know the devs at least have a plan for it.
  17. Disclaimer: I did a search for 'blood' on the forums and I did not see any threads with any titles similar to this. I apologize if this is a repeat suggestion because I'm sort of stunned that nobody else has started this topic yet. First; I love that I can move corpses! Second; I am super excited about being able to burn corpses! So cool to see that video on the recent mondoid! I am excited about the upcoming updates to the disease system! What I am a disappointed in is that I can not clean up blood splatter/stains. It would make perfect sense if the rain washed away blood that was outside and that I could use bleach to clean blood stains/splatter that is indoors. I am sure somebody on the dev team is thinking/working on how to tackle this, but just in case I thought I would mention how I feel like this is a missing feature of being able to move/remove corpses. Hopefully this is will be added before/when the disease system is updated. Having infected zombie blood on the walls and floor of my house, can't be a good thing for my health!
  18. Having to check the 31+ was a sobering moment for me... You have to grow old, but you don't have to grow up! And growing old sure beats the alternative.
  19. If there is anything holy out there, may it have mercy on your soul for knowing that video exists, let alone sharing it with others. Find peace troubled soul... I am curious about this as well. Will the shelves/racks/etc visually look different if they are 1/2, 1/4, etc looted? I would like to see something like that. Going from completely full to completely empty is better than it currently is, but I think a gradual visual step down would be ideal! This is probably the only game that I own that just keeps getting better and better! Most devs and studios make an attempt to improve their games, but usually fall short. The PZ team continues to impress me! I recommend this game to all my serious gaming buds.
  20. Hello PZ community, I was wondering if anyone has suffered a back injury from carrying too much. When heavily loaded we receive the moodle "Extremely Heavy Load. Threatened Back Injury. Movement Compromised". I was wondering if anyone has actually been injured from carrying too much. For the longest time I avoided hopping over fences, climbing sheet ropes, sprinting, combat, and pretty much anything else that would be difficult if heavily loaded and might cause injury. However, recently I have become a bit more brazen in my actions and find myself hopping out windows, climbing up sheet ropes (BTW I think it would be a nice touch if you couldn't climb sheet ropes with a heavy load unless you had the strong perk), jogging down the street, etc. Other than becoming tired and not being able to recooperate, I haven't encountered any negative effect. Am I just lucky, or is this another thing that will be added in the future?
  21. Once the game becomes a little more user friendly (by this I don't mean easier difficulty, but rather easier to use) and a few promised features are released (thinking NPC's, horde migration, hunting/trapping/fishing, etc), and some general bug fixes, I'm confident that the game's popularity will grow organically. I think if they made the game more user friendly in regards to managing your MP servers and characters, etc that it would help. Unless you have a decent understanding of wireless router settings, file pathways, and your command prompt, it can be a little difficult to fully take advantage of what PZ offers. The casual Steam gamer might not feel comfortable tweaking these things to be able to fully enjoy the game. It isn't that it is particularly difficult, especially with the helpful and supportive community that PZ has, but it is rather cumbersome to host a server. Being able to do everything from the title screen in a simple GUI format would probably make things more intuitive for some users. I also think having the ability to some how view servers that players make public from the title screen would be incredibly useful too. Currently a player needs to head to the forums and look for servers that they find interesting and that are currently up and running. Again this isn't particularly difficult, but cumbersome. It would be nice to be able to do that from the title screen. Out of the 'box' PZ just isn't as intuitive to manage running the game as other titles. For most of us that are here on the forums, this probably isn't a problem, but the more casual gamer/PC user might be turned off by the necessary steps involved. Know what I mean? I'm sure these issues will be well ironed out in the near future. The game is only build 0.25c after all at this point.
  22. While I have to agree that most homes in the US will have some sort of PC or tablet that can connect to the internet (however, I have been to WV and there are parts of WV where this is probably not true) I don't think the devs intended to have the game be based in current time (2014). I have read somewhere that it is supposed to be the 1990s (except that there are some flat screen TV sprites). This means for areas like Muldraugh and WP, few PCs with internet connection, and if they did have a connection it was most likely a 56k modem or lower connected to AOL. Remember how reliable that service was? Good luck downloading anything over 1mb! What we don't know is how long phone substations would remain functioning or how long the servers for websites would remain functioning. The internet back then definitely isn't as robust as it is today. We don't know if other areas that are vital to the internet infrastructure are also in the midst of a zombie outbreak. This doesn't mean that they don't have files on how to cook, do carpentry, or farm on the old school Apple IIci In current times, I imagine the internet would remain functioning a lot longer than it would in the 90s. If I am wrong and the setting for the game is current times, then I really like your idea, it makes sense! I notice in areas like Bedford Falls, that there are only old CRT based TVs. I admit I haven't been everyone in Bedford Falls yet though so I could be wrong again.
