  1. Enigma, thank you for your answers! I am going to copy and paste your answer into a note so that I can have it for quick reference. But, your explanation is identifying exactly what I'm talking about! I wish all of that could be a lot simpler and intuitive to someone who doesn't often dabble in coding. Noob questions: what do you mean by 'add server name variable'? Do you mean just change the title of file?where do I add the '-softReset flag'? and what is it?Thanks in advance!
  2. Port forwarding usually at least has a nice GUI supplied by the router manufacturer But, yes 99% of connection errors seem to be caused by dynamic IPs changing the hosting PC's IP address to something that port forwarding was not set to. What is the simplest way to create a brand new server without deleting the current one? Then to have a different set of server options than the current one? (when I play with my wife we keep everything simple, but when I play with some buddies we like to up the number of zombies, change their memory, change how long the water/electricity lasts, and add some custom spawn points so that we can all spawn together with fresh characters). Then if I needed to do a server soft-reset, whats the easiest process for this?
  3. I think all chat should create noise, voice or text, but I don't believe it currently does.
  4. I definitely agree that it is not an urgent matter, but I think this process should be simplified before they get into Beta. Once this game hits Beta and out of Early-Access, *hopefully* a lot more people are going to buy the game. Many I suspect will be players who want to play MP with their friends and have waited so that they don't have to deal with issues like this. It's definitely not an urgent item, we're getting by with the current system, but I think it is something that should be addressed prior to Beta to make the game more enjoyable for a wider base of players. My wife is a casual gamer and has played PZ with me, but if I asked her to setup a brand new server with a set # of options, forget about it, she wouldn't be able to do it . I'm betting there are a lot of other gamers who wouldn't be able to, or just wouldn't want to endeavor the task.
  5. I would like to see an easier way to reset my servers, create new servers for different play groups and styles/settings, change an individual server setting without changing all the server settings, create custom spawn for each server, etc. All of these things are currently possible but it is a rather complicated and cumbersome procedure to do so. Maybe to start we could have a pinned thread on the multi-player forums that would explain exactly what needs to be done for different scenarios (soft resets, change settings, etc) But ultimately a simple GUI that did all of this for me so that I don't have to locate files, open them to change code, creating new documents, etc would be nice and much more efficient when you have a group waiting to play I recently had issues with a server acting oddly after updating to 30.9 and I wanted to reset the server. I found all the answers I was looking for here on the forums, but unfortunately it took a good amount of time to scroll through a number of posts. Then I had to actually edit the files and what not.
  6. Normalizing by area, that would be about 13.7 flashes per square mile per year (5.3 per square kilometer per year). I think it's harder to figure what the effects should be - the only lightning strikes I can remember hearing of in real life involved trees being killed, not fires that actually spread. Climate can play a major factor with the effects of lightning strikes. How dry is the environment that the strike hit? Was it after a long period of rain? Or has there been a drought? Lightning causes 5.5 million acres to burn annually in the US and strikes 4,400 homes causing $283 million in damages. http://www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov/fire.htm
  7. A string hung just about anywhere with a nail could work too!
  8. I was just thinking that it would be cool if a VOIP chat was added where the volume level of the transmitter would effect the noise output of your character in game. For instance you yell "Steve, Behind You!!" into your headset and your loud yell alerts lots of zombies to you! Whispering Quietly would not attract zombies from as far away. I think for immersion, this would be awesome! Currently when I use Steam Chat I can scream all I want to warn my friends of zombies behind them with no penalty! Zombies would hear you in RL.
  9. or ever coming back on at all? What if a storm had a random % chance of knocking out the power permanently? It would also be cool (not very realistic) that every time the power died it was because of an issue somewhere in the game world. Powerlines knocked down due to the storm, a transformer blew because of a lightning strike, etc. A player who has found certain manuals or books could repair the damage and get the power back on. Something similar for the water?
  10. Can I get a use for socks? Rip them into bandages? Be used for kindling? Burn them? Something?
  11. Maybe I will lose my mod creation virginity to this.
  12. Why not allow characters to 'Rest' anywhere, including the floor or ground? I know if I stay immobile my endurance regens in 30.9, but I'd like to sit down on the ground and rest. Let's say I just killed a dozen zombies in the middle of the street and I am worn out. The area appears completely clear, why not just sit down and catch my breath for a bit? There are no observable threats anywhere within sight. It might not be the most comfortable, but it'll do if needed. I don't think a chair, couch, or bed is needed to 'rest', but if they're used then you're 'resting' recovery should be faster. (We really need animations for 'resting')
  13. Jarred Strawberries that require vinegar would be bad. Vinegar and strawberries together? blah There's no vinegar in jam, there would have to be a different recipe to make Jam that doesnt use vinegar. Sugar and some citric acid sure, but no vinegar!
  14. I can not express how happy I am that the dev team has finally added a way to preserve food in the vanilla version of the game!! BUT, why can we not preserve all the food that we can grow? Yeah I know jarred strawberries, broccoli, or cabbage would probably taste terrible, but is there a realistic reason why we can't? Its still calories afterall. Will we ever be able to grow leeks, peppers, or eggplants since they can be jarred? I would also love to see this feature expanded to preserving meat and having a longer term solution to the limited resources of vinegar. I have never tried to jar any foods using a pressure cooker as someone mentioned, but that seems like a better solution to me since, as someone else mentioned, eventually all the vinegar will be gone. OR better yet, allow us to make vinegar!! It is actually very very easy to make vinegar from any acidic and alcoholic solution. Basically take some fruit, mash it, strain the juices, cover with a cheese cloth, come back in 6 months and BAM you have vinegar. The juices will ferment through exposure to natural wild yeast (btw we already have yeast in game) and the alcohol will react with the acids in the fruit. Apple cider vinegar is very common. Actually in RL I left a half empty jug of apple cider in my fridge for way too long and it was turned mostly into vinegar without me doing anything. Just throwing it out there. Speaking of apples, will we ever be able to grow apple trees? They are quite common in Kentucky. Most of Kentucky has a great climate for them. Maybe pears as well? Just throw an apple under some soil and nature should take care of the rest. Would take a long long time to get any mature fruit trees, but the effort in cultivating them would be worth it in the long run. Wouldn't mind growing some corn too I haven't had a chance yet to play since 30.6 since I'm on a flipping work trip this past week and I can't wait to get home to play! A more efficient way to carry logs? HORDES?!?!? WHAT?!?! So excited... Xmas is around the corner and I don't care because I'm more excited to play PZ. Yep PZ is more exciting than the holidays for me and I have a loving and supporting family and friends to spend them with. Too bad they won't see me much because I'll be playing PZ. Way to destroy my relationship with my family TIS! *as a final note* There has been some posts that were borderline not 'lovely' in this thread recently. Constructive criticizm is good, trolling is bad. Keep it lovely and constructive! Lets all hold on to our humanity during this zombie apocalypse!
  15. I would argue that the average person would be physically exhausted after chopping down just one tree. Not to mention two or three trees and sawing them into planks after dragging the logs that weigh realistically hundreds and hundreds of pounds acoss the street. All of this in 4 hours? Forget it if you want to talk about realism. Go into the woods and find a tree that has fallen over and try to drag it ANYWHERE. The average person couldn't even drag a single log across a street. They would have to saw the log on the spot and carry back smaller pieces like planks. Have you ever chopped down a tree with an axe that was big enough to make planks out of? Or ever try to saw through one? By yourself? I have. It is not easy and it is extremely demanding physically. For the sake of gameplay, I think that aspect of the exhaustiion system is reasonable.
  16. and WEREWOLVES! Well, a research in the US National Library of Medicine yield to 2429 scientific articles on the use of silver in wound treatment (for an review on the history of silver in medical use see Alexander, 2009). However, no results were found for the use of silver against werewolves. So don't count on silver if you have to deal with werewolves . Thats just because there is no point in funding silver research against werewolves because everyone knows thats how you stop a werewolf. No studies required
  17. I love that you have an option for #hours of sleep now, but I would love it even more if I only had that option if I had an alarm clock with a battery or with the power still on. Realistically, I can't go to sleep and tell myself to only sleep for 3 hours, but I love being able to in game and WEREWOLVES!
  18. So with the recent hotfix on IWBUMS build 30 we can now remove grass, bushes, and vines!! Hurrah and thank you devs for listening (or at least adding the feature)!
  19. Nailed it. But, I can't argue having one outdoors. However, I don't see game-play improving much by having one. A fire barrel doesn't bring much to the table that a campfire doesn't (in game). What I do like is the idea of putting sand, gravel, or dirt down on the ground to prevent fires from spreading. We have long needed a way to combat fire spreading, and prevention is usually the first step. *sees Smokey smiling*
  20. I guess ultimately I would like to see this option, just because there could be a rare occurence where I wanted to ration the water that I had, like during a drought or something. Hey as a side note; what about evaporation slowly sucking up your exposed water storage containers (bowls, pots, water barrels, etc)? However, for now I can just leave the water in my bag and not my main inventory as a current work-around to the auto-drinking.
  21. Yeah I definitely don't know how the game works exactly either. But, what if they spawned on the edges of those 49 tiles randomly and then occasionally migrated to your crops? That would simulate them wondering into your area without having to track them across the entire map. Having a loud and active farm would keep them away, but all that extra noise would attract something else... This could open an avenue for new crafting too! You could build chicken wire fences around your crops and/or build elevated planters. Or you could risk the wrath of the bunnie and just farm in the open on ground level.
  22. It would be realistic, I'll give you that. I do know that they are adding in bunnies at some point and they have shared some art on what they're developing, I just don't know what their plan for them is. Maybe not have a random % chance, but that if a bunnie does show up in your garden from hopping around the map (which would be almost random in itself), that you had better take care of it!

    Wind

What about adding wind to the game? I feel like I made this suggestion before, but after doing a search and finding no results I thought I would post it 'again'! Wind could add some very interesting game play mechanics. In no particular order, just brainstorming: Scents can travel downwind and not upwind (if smell ever becomes a thing)Wind can bang open doors/windows and attract zombies.Wind could effect shooting bullets and arrows (if bows/arrows are added)Strong winds could damage or weaken fortifications/structures.Strong winds could effect growing crops if they're left too exposed.Strong winds could cause traps to fail or captured critters to escape.Wind could effect your hearing.Wind chill effect could cause your character to get cold faster.Wind could freshen up a stinky rotting area (again if smell becomes a thing).Fires would be more difficult to maintain outdoors in stronger wind if not sheltered from the wind.Cooking outside could attract zombies from far away if they follow the scents of meat/food roasting.Wind could spread fire.Winds could cause trees to fall over and allow the logs to be sawed without needing an axe.Wind would typically come from the same direction (predominant winds are likely West to East in KY) and occasionally move to different directions. It could easily be indicated by an unobtrusive directional arrow that players could show/hide. Adding in blowing trees, etc would be cool, but probably not needed since it would require some serious artwork and would be detrimental to performance. Just an idea that IMO would be realistic and add depth to the game play mechanics. What does everyone else think? Edit: DOH I meant to post this in Suggestions and not General. I'll PM Rathlord and Enigma about moving it. Sorry.
  24. I agree with most of your post except the above snip. The acceleration rate of gravity is constant regardless of mass. Drop a book and a crumpled piece of paper and see which hits the ground first.
