Hello, what was your scariest moment that happened to you in PZ?
Mine was when I was hanging out in the kitchen and heard a loud knocking on the door. It was scary as hell because I knew there were no NPCs in the game and who could have it been? I know it's just a meta-event that happens, but it was really scary.

Those who are unaware what "2 Weeks Left" means, I wrote it because the map's coming out in exactly 2 weeks.

I've added more buildings, fixed bugs and detailed the map the past week. I'd like to point out the one building I've added this week, it's a *drum roll* Driving School (totally not a hidden motive for devs to speed up the vehicle progress). You can see a bit of it on the left side of the screenshot.
There's no map download for this week unfortunately, but hey, you got this super duper  awesome screenshot of the map, that's almost the same...right?

One mondoid left, so I'll be seeing you next week. Cya

Back with some map news. The map is progressing very well and pretty fast.
Here's a picture of the current map:

Also a screenshot of the downtown:

I have also set an ETA, which is my birthday, 23rd March. The beta will come out late February and the full version, as I mentioned before, 23rd March.

That's it for now, I better go back working on it.

Jela331 reacted to BigJk in PZTracker - Connects the online PZ Map to your running game.
    Hello Guys!
Recently I'm playing PZ extensively with my Girlfriend and because I have 3 monitor's I always have the map (http://map.projectzomboid.com/) open on one of the other monitor's. One thing that annoyed me was that even in borderless window mode I had to click out of PZ to move the map to see everything I wanted. Finding the position of your player was also a bit annoying, so one night I sat down and started programming and PZTracker was the result. PZTracker connects the online map to the game. The map will follow your player position if you like and you can move around (arrow keys) or zoom in and out (num+ and num-) on the map by pressing the keys WITHIN PZ. No need to tab out of PZ. You really just need to press buttons ingame.

    Little Preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJEKmZ5Nrh0

I was faced with the problem of connecting two separated systems that had no connection whatsoever. PZ and an Website. I had to get information out of PZ and into the map website. At first I thought about memory reading, but I dropped that idea when modding PZ came to my mind. And so PZTracker currently consists of 3 "components".

    Component 1: The PZTrackerMod
I had to get the information out of the game. I realized this by writing a simple mod. So the PZTrackerMod is just a typical mod written in lua (never worked with lua before, but was easy enough to get everything working in a few minutes) that prints out important information, like player position and keypress events to the PZ cmd.

Currently the PZTrackerMod has the following Shortcuts:
F - Enables or Disables follow mode. If disabled the map won't follow the position of your player.
Arrow Keys - Move the map up, down, left, right for easy navigation.
Num + - Zooms into the map.
Num - - Zooms out of the map.

    Component 2: pz_tracker.exe
Now I had to get the data that gets printed by the PZTrackerMod out of the cmd, so I wrote a program in golang that starts PZ as a child process and reads and parses the stdout (the text stuff you see in the cmd). Now the program is able to get the data out of the game. To forward this data it also opens a websocket in wich all the data get's send if somebody is connected to it.

    Component 3: inject.js
Now we come to the last part. We got the data that we can get through the websocket from the pz_tracker.exe. Now we have to get the data into the map. Currently I solved the Problem with a small javascript code that I lode into the running map website via the "Chrome Development Console". It,s just pasting the code into the console and hit enter, so even somebody without coding experience should be able to do this. What the code does is to connect to the websocket and read the data that get sent to him. It then uses the data to move the map to the player location or respond to key press events and move or zoom the map.

Just download the ZIP File of the latest release: https://github.com/BigJk/PZTracker/releases

    Setup Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4ycQgryxzw

    Step 1:
Download the current Version and extract it somewhere.

    Step 2:
Copy the "PZTrackerMod" to your "Mods" Folder (C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\Zomboid\mods)
Copy the "PZTracker.exe" and "inject-min.js" to your "ProjectZomboid" Folder (With steam: C:\...\Steam\SteamApps\common\ProjectZomboid)

    Step 3:
Start the "PZTracker.exe" and open the PZMap

    Step 4:
Activate the "PZTrackerMod" in your running Project Zomboid.

    Step 5:
Open the Developer Console in your PZMap browser window (Chrome: Ctrl - Shift - I).
Paste the code that is displayed in PZTracker after "Insert into development console:" into the development console and hit enter. (Should be something like: $.getScript('http://127.0.0.1:9090/js');)

    Step 6:
Load a Singleplayer Game or join a Server that has "PZTrackerMod" enabled and hit F when you see your character. Now you should see the map moving. Use the shortcuts mentioned above.

    Advanced Stuff
If you start PZTracker for the first time it will generate a config filed called "pztracker_config.json". Open this file with a texteditor and you will find the settings for PZTracker. You should understand them just by the name, but in case an explanation of them will be added shortly.

    Github Repository: BigJk/PZTracker

First of all I would really like to hear the opinion on this from you guys. Maybe you don't like the idea and it will just be a little tool for me to use when I play with my girlfriend, but in case you like it I will get it ready to release in a short while and think about possible future features. Any ideas? Maybe I can simplify the process of getting the data into the map and get away from this "hacky" way of doing it, even though I must admit that it works way better than I have ever expected xD

Thank you for taking your time and reading this and huge thanks to blindcoder for creating this awesome map website! I hope you don't mind my playing around xP

Hello and welcome to my project, this representation of the mythical island of Hashima, is it the creation of a map that will be dedicated to the game PVP, in multiplayer mode, runs the buildings of this mining island and explore the ruins of what some moment was a fairly populated locality, dare to do battle with your teammates in the rubble, runs through the halls Hide in the darkness and pray that you will not find, by the way forget to mention the zombies, nothing worse than being trapped in a building surrounded by thirsty hikers human flesh.
This map will have some changes since it can not be a hundred percent representation equal to the original island, but try to capture that post apocalyptic environment is seen in buildings of the island.

    Some pictures of the island.

A video to learn more about its history.

what writing style? i wont make the mountains impassable as it would result in a part of the map being unaccessible but i indeed wanna make sure people notice when theyre on / close to a mountain or not. for example, a cabin or lookout station may have one story with only front supports and a second with front and back supports if you understand what i mean. tree and vegetation density will decrease the higher it gets and the terrain will change accordingly too. i wish i could upload the other stuff i had but im too lazy and i have to move so many files from a folder on my desktop and id have to minimize to the desktop and all that hope you understand the struggle i will upload the files whenever i guess.
Actually nevermind i have just spent my last 15 mins on this showcases examples of the housing in my project

Here's a really crap phone cam video of the new animation system running in Six Months Later, with ALL 100% 3D zombies and players, on an old laptop, a 1.8Ghz Duo with an Intel HD graphic card (unnumbered) that has zero shader support (aka can't even run 3D models at all in build 33/34). The reason I had to take a cam is because i doubt it could handle me recording footage on it the laptop's so doddery. Don't complain about the framing, it took me about an hour to find a spot where it worked in the light and I could balance my phone upright.

There are also a few bugs introduced by the software skin system so ignore any glitches you see.

WARNING: I am BRUTALLY honest in this critique of Project Zomboid's Store Page on Steam. Please don't forget that I am not attacking anyone and I love this game. I just want to share something that's been bothering me for awhile..

The minute the new animations drop, the Steam Store Page for Project Zomboid will be in desperate need of an update. I've been looking at it for awhile ever since new features were released. I purchased this game when it was at around Build 28 or 29, and as I've said a few times here and there in other places around the forum, I would have NEVER bought the game if it weren't for the Features list. I decided to put the bare, boring look of the game depicted in the store page aside and give it a shot. If I hadn't, I would have never bought an extra copy for my ex, and convinced 3 or 4 other friends to purchase the game. Imagine all the sales you might be missing out on because your Steam page does not advertize the product in its current form; a product far more polished, attractive to the eye, and feature-filled than ever before! The game shown is almost two years old by now, maybe more!

There are no shots of new features like vine-covered, cracked up houses (erosion), no shots of the new and improved 2x resolution textures, and so on. Not even a single one of the screenshots is new enough to show the improved shaders and color filters! Now I'm not suggesting you show the W.I.P. features in the screenshots, I'm just saying they should be shown after their release. Spice it up a bit. Add text over the screenshots talking about features. For example, you can place text on the split-screen screenshot saying something along the lines of "Up to x numbers of players on the same screen with controller support!"

When a consumer purchases any product, not just a video game, the marketing for that product should have made it quite clear what to expect, and when I opened the game for the first time, I little about the depth of it other than what was listed as its features. While I was given a general idea in text, the screenshots did not help to convince me of the reality of the features listed.

Another thing: Have a look at this piece of text from the features list, which I copied and pasted in its original, unedited form:

" Farming, trapping, fishing, carpentry, cooking, trapping, character customization, skills and perks that develop based on what you do in-game.  "

Did you see what I saw? They said trapping twice. In advertizing, there is a standard of perfection that, obviously, humans cannot replicate because we are not perfect, however, when you are marketing you want to make your pitch as seamless and as polished as possible. Might wanna fix that.

In nearing my conclusion, I want to add that, as most Steam users are aware, Early Access is in a shaky state at the moment and more and more people are losing faith in the system as time goes on because developers are keeping quiet about upcoming features, releasing updates with large gaps in between them, over-charging for incomplete games, advertizing amazing upcoming features, taking the money those people spent on an idea, and running off the face of the Earth. Having a store page that looks the same year after year might throw up red flags about the development of the game to people who have been on the fence for awhile.

And lastly, while I understand that Project Zomboid's trailer was made in good spirit by a couple of gentlemen running gaming channels, and I know how sentimental TIS is about people who help them, it might be time to consider updating that trailer as well. It depicts an older game, and this time around you'll want to get rid of the cursor in the film.

P.S.: I'm not sure why I can't write anything without it being too long and drawn out... -.- Anyway, let me know what you guys think!

TL;DR: PZ's Store Page on Steam is outdated and may drive away potential customers. If you want to know why I think so, see above ^^^
