  1. Nah, I've been on the server since shortly after it started. Player hunters and "griefing" (more like raiding) appeared before there were real factions. Bedford is freakin' FULL of loot/large caches - including high level player crafted items, lots of people broadcasting the latter on global, and way fewer zeds then normally in Bedford. The latter might have to do w/ five factions + independent players. Also, large #s of zeds can screw up the Bedford map. Finally, this isn't exactly a secret server and was formerly Terminus: I think there are Youtube videos of both servers! So, yeah, there will be attacks and by very experienced, or just plain dickish, players at that. Has admin put their thumb on the scales for either community builders or raiders? Maybe, I don't know for sure but it would suck if he didn't tweak the experience here and there. He'll teleport new characters to each other, help traders set up a trading post, and has military drops even though there is tons of loot on the server! Seriously... The one time I think I saw admin helped raiders, we fought stupidly anyway (I do mean stupidly. I mean, wow.) and, afterwards, my new character found his way back to his well stocked fortress. *shrug* I'm very picky about servers and this is one of two that I'll play on.
  2. Gotta get this fired up again: former players should come back so we can figure out where to go from here. There *were* small communities and many folks are well fortified and supplied, so what now? Have you ever thought of adding Hydrocraft? I am now just getting familiar w/ it and it *seems* cool now, but we'll see. Or add New Denver? It's super far away from everything - I *will* make that trek some day.
  3. Ok man, they are *really* loot heavy: I still can't help putting the stuff (axes/shotguns/tools) into backpacks. Lol My character doesn't care about zeds unless they're in his way or making too much noise near a base - hates the sound. He'll clear the area in those cases. He didn't actually kill his family when they turned: the neighborhood was full of *horrible* people and the wife down w/ the idea of her corpse terrorizing them. . Kids thought it would be funny too, the little scamps. "Horde Killers" don't really need incentive as they love killing zeds: good neighbors to have! Muldraugh to Bedford is an easy run: I usually have bases at either end of the route w/ chairs along the way to rest. Phoenix kind of screws that up, but I've made the "round about" trip before. Damn I was shocked the first time - "WTF is the forest doing here!?" Then blundered into Phoenix. The only scenario where having central spawn points would be bad is if factions took over entire towns (at least controlled most of them) and you didn't belong to that faction. I have no idea how likely that is. Yeah. I don't I know when I'll have time to build the wilderness fortress so my guy can work on his survival skills - he plans on heavily depending on fishing, farming, etc. By the time I have the chunk of time to establish it, someone will already be there. Oh well, it's a big map. =)
  4. The zeds are loot heavy: you could even live off them. In no time you'll have a good pack, a shotgun (or other firearm), some trail mix, a few axes, etc. Still, that seems more realistic than zeds w/ very little. It's America during the zombie apocalypse, i.e. folks will have trail mix/easy protein, a backpack, and definitely guns. I don't know what the options are, but maybe take it down a notch and see what happens? I dunno what think about reducing spawn points. I was thinking that starting in Muldraugh or WP makes getting to Bedford Falls or other places kind of like a reward. Now I'm thinking more like a PITA. I mean, if I spawn in Muldraugh (so sick of it), thing I'll do anyway is head South to Bedford anyway. Also, I've never been to New Denver: how long would it take to walk *there*? The main issue is body and bases: do you want players to easily be able to get to their former character's equipment? I sure as hell prefer it. I think it's going well: loot will start running out in some places but not yet in others. So, folks will have to start moving around...
  5. That sounds cool. I'm ready to move to the wilderness so I want to get to 9 so I know when I can, or cannot go on the trip to a town. Good yields on those 9 plots: 12 vegies each, got from Farming 0 to most of 6. Too much w/o refrigeration. If that's a setting, please don't mess with it. Kentucky is super fertile. Srsly. K, time to plant.
  6. Well, it happened, so it's beyond plausible. Anyway, your tweak helped a lot. 4 plots of cabbage, potatoes, broccoli & one plot strawberries planted IRL 8:30AM PST, game date 4/21. IRL 9:25PM PST, game date 4/28 = dead cabbages (not a shocker), potatoes bearing seed, broccoli could be harvested, and strawberries, of course, not doing much. 8:48AM PST game date 5/02 = the strawberries are at 7/7. So that's much more workable. It's still fast growing though: how do you feel about those times?
  7. Cool. I'm a little confused because if 1 IRL hour equaled 1 game day, then everything rotted in 6 days. I'll keep a closer eye on stuff, i.e. wherever I hang out for any amount of time, I'll plant a few plots.
  8. What is the rough growing time for crops? I had everything from cabbage to strawberries go rotten within 6 RL hours. I'm all for a fast grow time, but I need some help not wasting seeds. =)
  9. Good gods, West Point sounds absolutely insane. Has anyone traveled from Bedford to WP or vice versa?
  10. Ok, thank you: I'm in now! Very cool: I've been looking forward to this today. (My character has a mysterious sick moodle and might die but no biggie). I gotz plans! The crossbow mod is cool but the XP is likely still a little jacked, i.e. you build a type of crossbow for the first time and you get lots of carpentry points, you make aluminum bolts and you get electrical xp, etc. I'd say it's biggest drawback is that you can get addicted to it and then when you're on another server you're kinda sad. https://bitbucket.org/berupp/zomboid_xbow/wiki/Home Open question to anyone on the server: is it a friendly place, or do I have to very wary of folks, and even cover my tracks/hide my base?
  11. It is very cool so far: thank you for putting up a map of all the towns! I'm looking forward to playing on the server, although I'm still pondering the roleplay aspect. May I suggest getting the XBow mod? Seriously, it's a lot of fun, and a repeater crossbow can pretty much replace a shotgun. Admittedly, it will break a hell of a lot more often then a shotgun. I forgot to write down the IP last night, and now I'm not seeing it in public servers. Is the server down or freakin' out in some way?
  12. Thanks! Yeah, I have a house down in Bedford on the Serenity server. It's a cool server but I'm looking for some variety.
  13. If it's some kind of hell, would there be demons running about? If post apocalyptic, then mutants? As for the EMP apocalypse idea, the Kripke show "Revolution" did a great job of portraying a similar world. I am not sure why civil war would be set in the 90s as opposed to early 21st century. =( I'm really liking the idea of a fantasy medieval survival game.
  14. Was there really a "container bug?" On the server that I've been on the "unable to interact w/ containers" was caused by folks logging out of their claimed safehouses.
  15. My problem with this mod is that it is so "addictive" but hard to find on public servers. Srsly, once you're used to using a repeater crossbow, you'll rarely use a shotgun again. It's really a fantastic mod, and I wish that there was a way to encourage more server owners/admins to use it.
  16. Hey there, is there a PVE server using the Zomboid_Xbow mod? I got really used to using and don't like playing w/o it. Also hoping for an extra town like Bedford Falls (kinda familiar with), New Denver, etc. Thanks! https://bitbucket.org/berupp/zomboid_xbow/wiki/Home
  17. I don't think that it's being suggested as a trait but an environmental factor similar to temperature. Now if there was a trait "sensitive nose" or "easily grossed out" it wouldn't be a gimme. You can easily control eating stale or rotten food, i.e. just don't eat it. There are times when you'd have to, or want to, go through a stinking corpse filled area so that could be a tough negative trait.
  18. That's interesting idea and it's something that I think of when playing PZ as well as watching the Walking Dead. So, no negatives? I.E. if a new character walked into an area that "smells absolutely disgusting" might that not affect them badly, maybe even make the character queasy or even nauseous? Yeesh, I'd have to clean out my bases and their yards! Ultimately I think that people get used to horrible smells, even dead bodies. The trenches of WWI must have stank to high heaven.
  19. Do the crop growing times need to be updated? I.E. are the growing times stated on the Wiki too long?
  20. No, they do: I came across several in the mini-mall's bookstore last week. There are 3 "how to cure disease" farming magazine - is that the only farming magazine? [i could have sworn there were electronic magazines, but I checked and there are not...weird. *Maybe* I took them, but I doubt it.] I remember seeing a bread making magazine in some past game, but I swear that I haven't seen one in ages.
  21. I've only played 1st Week a few times and the zeds are much less reactive than in survival. I've waded into a pack of zombies merrily swinging an axe and a lot of their nearby buddies didn't even react. I've also walked between two zombies (their backs were turned) and a loud [ambient] gunshot didn't make them budge When you say two weeks in with an "allotment" of potatoes and tomatoes, do you mean that you were able to harvest them in two weeks *real* time? Those take longer than two game weeks to grow to maturity and you've seized the warehouse so it sounds like you're doing pretty well. Maybe you might want to build walls and otherwise practice your carpentry while things are easy...'cause it sounds like you'll be playing Survival mode soon.
  22. Excellent! Thank you for the extra trait points: hypochondria will pair nicely w/ restless sleep.
  23. Ok, I'm seeing the logic...but, once the fake infection process starts, i.e. queasiness, health dropping, etc. are you *able* to get to "OK?" I've been through fake infections all the way to the brink of death, but it has been a loooong time. If you're correct, i.e. I could get to OK even w/ hypochondria (and thus know) I'll start using that trait again!
  24. Aw, I pretty much assumed that, but I can't just give up: it's not my nature. The value of eating a lot immediately and maintaining a "well fed" moodle is solely (?) just to know if I'm going to die, i.e. the health meter won't get to OK. That's why I don't take hypochondria anymore: if my game is over, I just want to know so that I can move on.
  25. Indeed bleach should make fresh rain water potable, and I hope they add that to the game someday. I say "fresh" because there are some parasites that bleach won't kill. Hm. Maybe in the future bleach could at least *lower* the chance of getting sick? We shall see. =)
