  1. Depression isn't generally handled like the OP states, alcohol dependency while in an emotional state is a personal thing rather than a depression thing and neither is constant crying. If you wanted to generalize depression with 'universal' symptoms the most likely ones would be silence, lack of ability to be enthusiastic, lack of appetite, notably less social behavior and odd subjects of conversation / avoidance of subjects of conversation. The moodle effects would matter more when NPCs come out than the current stage.

  3. [Censored by North Korean Government] On topic, generators need better balance to make them ideal to use. If you expect to run one for about a month, say, operating a fridge or (maybe an electrified fence in future gameplay) you would need to find an unrealistic amount of gas that you can't actually upkeep. IMO all of these problems can be solved with siphoning the tanks at the station. Currently the 'big' uses there would be for generators is powering up 'created' buildings. Currently a larger issue is running them inside. Obvious to anyone who knows their generator safety, that is an awful realism flaw - unless the game adds a way to hook them up to adjacent houses instead of indoors.
  4. Going to chime in and say that as a guy who didn't complete his education going into the veterinary practice but still learned a lot, the OP is entirely correct regardless of game balance. If you get a scratch that lightly cuts the epidermis but doesn't penetrate the full depth of it, as in doesn't draw blood or gets close to the depth to do so, you won't get an infection as the cells in the stratum basale easily divide and repair the damage. Scratches that you wouldn't get infected from don't come close seperating the entire depth of the epidermis, therefore making common infection from them almost a definite no. It's not his "personal experience"... I can back him up on this. IMO he makes good points. I thought it was pretty cool to see a healing system with some depth into it but the system definitely has large room for improvement regardless of the choice to use the term "scratch" or "cut". I wouldn't be so dismissive of what he has to say because he isn't a doctor, his points were correct after all.
  5. I agree, they don't have to make it because I corrected a single person's misinformation about backup generators in gas stations. It's not a big deal or thing about re-powering the stations to me, I was just reading posts and wanted to share my POV. But I never said they have to add it, or should make it a feature - I explained why it's possible even if it's something that's not a guarantee in Kentucky or in any other state for that matter. Personally, my 'out-of-town' gas stations and truck stops have backup generators, the big hefty diesel ones, so I know first-hand that having it be as simple as 'hooking up a casual mobile generator' is unrealistic. In fact, I'm pretty sure I said that myself earlier. About having the game set in the 90's, I'm not saying the devs are wrong and should feel bad, I'm merely suggesting, hence how many times I threw in "in my opinion" when suggesting what they should do if there was a need to do something. I shared a perspective, but never said they must do something. Don't make me out to be a bad guy here, I didn't degrade anybody in the process of voicing what I felt were some mistakes, objectionable or not. I get it, I'm a cynical a-hole, but I almost had to say something when the idea of re-powering the stations was dismissed with a reason that I interpreted as incorrect. (Edit: I also agree that it might not be implemented intentionally for balance, since all you would have to do is hook up the generator for infinite gas in the current system.)
  6. You'd be surprised, it's not even the exact dates that would have to be established. A fair amount of people know that Lululemon wasn't a thing until the recent years, neither was Hugo Boss the 'high fashion' store in the states and a lot of other store parodies as well. To somebody less informed than I am but just as picky, they would probably also say "Hey, aren't some of these stores too recent for the 90's?" or just do what I did, and assume it took place post-2k And even if that's not the case, I will know. I know. The deep dark secrets. A lot of people assume the game takes place in the early 2000s. Edit: Even if the brand names were changed, a lot of logo art-style is post-90's as well, and while that is extremely picky, I could write you up an essay on the subject. Although that is just me being a picky jerk.

I understand that, but to somebody who doesn't know, there is a lululemon and hugo-boss parody in the game (as well as some other brands as well) that greatly imply that the game takes place a lot later than it actually does. In my opinion at this point it would be easier to say that it's the start of Y2K than make everything strict 90s, or just make it 'undefined' and not establish an official timeframe.

Maybe they dropped that label recently, because Phillips made the 'flat-screen' in 98 and it sold for a whopping 15k at the time. So the fact that newer flat-screens exist in houses, and at high numbers, is either an error, or it is not 90s. Same with the fact that the GBA (what the video game sprite is) was released in 2001. And everything else I have brought up. Devs should be clearer about it now, the fact that it takes place in the 90s is rather unknown to people outside of the forum and a lot of people think otherwise. With everything in the game, it would be safe to say that it takes place in 2000s, too many timeframe errors to go with anywhere before Y2K. Will sees the game being in the 90s as I recall while he's been making the lore and game world, and Mash even went as far as to replace all the flat screens with CRT TVs on account of this. I'm not sure if that's in the game yet. If the game says otherwise I'm going to make the assumption that it was added in by mistake or unknowingly by someone not aware of the lore, and will prob be patched up when Will takes note of it. There is the electronics store in the mall that only has flat-screens. On top of that, there is everything I said in the above post of mine. Especially Lululemon. It's much more than just flatscreens. I could make a whole thread on the post-2000 stuff that's in the game, the stores in the mall being a big one. There are a lot of changes that would be needed if 90's was a strict lore. As the game stands somebody that was slightly familiar with most of the knock-off brands and items the sprites are based off of would say the game takes place somewhere between 2001-2006, even with the flatscreens gone.
  9. Imo it would be a lot easier if the timeframe was just 'undefined', since I doubt they will remove the flat-screens. Also, the stores in the mall are based off of a lot of post-2000 stores. Lolalimon, a store in the mall obviously based off of Lululemon, was not a store in the 90s. That is post-Y2K. Same with a lot of other stores in the mall, i.e. the modernized Hugo Boss store. Well after Y2K did those stores take off. Also, the electronics store in the mall sells only flat-screens which would have never been the case in the 90s. A lot of knock-off stores in the mall are based off of 2k+ brands. Maybe they stopped going with 90's theme at some point? I'm sorry but Lululemon is kind of a massive out-of-timeframe "mistake" if that is what they were going for.

So, in the 90s, the various Fossoil stations around Muldraugh and West Point just happen to be a group of those rare stations rockin' a setup capable of being interfaced with a portable, consumer-grade, generator, despite being in Kentucky and prior to the apparent gas-station-generator fad? Don't you think that's stretching credibility a bit? Considering that in the rest of the post you refused to quote for some reason I already go on to say that the generators at stations would be diesel and permanent installations, also that it doesn't take place in the 90's (with many supporting aspects that display stuff that wouldn't be commonplace ingame if it was the 90's), I don't really need to explain the 'credibility' to that, since those aren't my words. Really, bro? And not every station would have the interface (I don't think I ever implied that to begin with), in fact, I think I said something similar to why it would be better to log it as 'possible' rather than 'guaranteed' several times already. I don't mean to sound rude or all-assuming but I think you just stretched my words there. That was 15% of my post that you quoted and what I said after that quoted bit already contradicts what you made it look like I was saying. :/
  12. It's to power it in outages and it's a requirement in some southern states to have generators capable of powering the whole - wait, I said that already. Epic narrator voice: When the power goes out, the generators come on And the part when I posted the link about them being more explored in 2012 was me explaining what you were talking about when you said '2012', which regardless was incorrect - the technology has been here long enough that an appearance ingame wouldn't be out of timeframe. I already said in my first post on this thread that the ones there would be diesel and permanent installations. Siphoning would indeed be simpler and easier, I was letting you know that the other option was still possible and/or would make sense to include the backup on-site generators around the gas-stations to begin with (as that option would be a realistic nod, but since houses as they stand don't have circuit breakers it would be a rather low-priority). There is a fair amount of items in the game that would imply that the timeframe is post-Y2K. Cordless phones, handheld video games (the sprite looks like a Gameboy Advance which released in 2001), and the reoccurring use of modern-looking stainless steel appliances. And feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure that I saw a flat-screen TV model in the game somewhere as well. Sorry. No need to get aggressive. Edit: I never said it would be simple, I said it would make sense for it to be possible. Post-Edit-Edit: Also, I was under the interpretation that the game took place in the early 2000's due to the existence of handheld gaming systems, modern-ish looking TVs and stainless-steel appliances. So the timeframe wouldn't be too far off, if not at all. But you would know more than I do on that front.
  14. This. Generators don't need to be involved in this, really. And considering the timeframe of the game, taking place in a period when generators at gas stations weren't a thing (as far as I know, I've never seen one), I'm not sure it makes sense as an option. Power requirements for the dispensers themselves seem all over the map -- 115v - 400 v,single to three phase, 3-6 kW. :/ Have a manual, I guess: http://www.gasboy.com/cfusion/gasboy/gold/download.cfm?doc_id=7707 Never mind that you'd be dragging a 300lb + generator to a station for the sole purpose of easy gas retrieval.Tried to find some more concrete info on this stuff, but am not having any luck. All I can say is it appears more complex than I would have thought: *Shrug* Generators at gas stations are far from an unheard-of thing and it's not new-fangled 2015 technology either. In the southern states like Louisianna and Florida (the only two states to require generator backups at the pumps) not only do they require certain stations along evacuation routes to have generators onsite, they also require every company to maintain at least 1 mobile generator for every 10 stations they operate. Onsite generators are usually diesel and permanent installations, and the 'mobile generators' are heavy trailers, but for a small period of time it would make sense that a generator could be hooked up (with the know-how) to provide enough power for a pump to fill up a jerry can or two.   15. I would, but I think a bunch of the posts before you asked for more options as well. Personally I would like nature's growth and man-made decay to be two separate categories to change.
  16. Well you are narrowing it down. Say your faction is about to raid another, you would grab a bullet proof vest for example. And well. Never wore full body uniform, I don't imagine a vest is that bad to wear, and being a vest I don't see how it can be that discomforting, It would be a personal taste. Now full body armor obviously going to heat you up and slow you down, but at the same time make you a kinda walking tank sort of thing. I don't see it's full use outside of the above scenario but it just adds that extra couple options for the player, that don't ruin the game, but don't feel like a wasted feature. A vest over top of your clothes is uncomfortable. You will probably take it off once you don't have an immediate use for it, because it is indeed hefty. And it's Kentucky so it's definitely warm.
  17. IMO in real life you would not wear hefty body armor every time you left your house, or in general. You all think it's good on pen and paper but then you get to real life and realize you are wearing an extra 10 pounds of clothing in the summer heat. Armor is uncomfortable and probably not realistic to expect somebody to wear for half of the day, and I couldn't stand my full-body uniforms at some of the places I worked at. Sure, you would wear it when you knew you would be getting into a close fight, but you also must realize that it gets uncomfortable quickly.
  18. These ideas are probably not going to happen, since people: A: Stash things in trash cans B: Stash things in bodies Also. Bodies by no means need to despawn considering it's a persistent game through-and-through. You can already burn bodies if you want to.
  19. Not necessarily quick. I remember when I used to help my buddy 'flip' houses and one of the properties was abandoned for 3 years. The hardwood on the base floor was dusty and a bit stained but by no means falling apart.
  20. IMO this suggestion has some backing to it. Yes, erosion is cool to see, but for those of us that have a setup figured out and have survived for many months ingame it seems really unsatisfying that our fortified house has random near-crumbled walls. Edit: Better suggestion: Make object erosion different from nature's growth. I'll delay object erosion as long as possible but removing my ability to grow wood bushes and stuff sort of hinders my gameplay.
  21. 500 days (the longest you can delay it) is still unrealistically fast for walls and floors to crack. That said, it also delays the time for trees and grass to grow as well which is a negatively-implicating gameplay factor for me.
  22. That happens way too fast. Erosion is cool and all, but within a year a Brick Wall or hardwood floor won't just crack out of age THAT quickly. Why does the road get filled with potholes so quickly too? It's not like anybody has been driving on them.

  24. I'm looking forward to moving furniture around. Leather sofas being moved into my new rec-room. Generators to keep the power on. Bunk beds that I can reproduce... imagine all of the fun you can have. Oh, and sleeping in multiplayer. My bunkroom must be relevant now.
  25. On one side, continuous sieges is something to be kept on toes about. However on the other side I have a large multi-chunk spot of land with a perimeter barbed-wire/wood fence that I am trying to maintain. Within the parameters some people are suggesting, having zed that spawn in cleared and patrol'd areas as the chunk reloads is a problem unless I decide to build something within said chunk. I know that there is a perimeter and I hate when a 'spawn-in-chunk' zed is obvious. I already have the problem when I run back to base and the house the property over has two freshly spawned zed inside of it when I know there was no breach of any kind. Building a shelf in the building seemed to be the only answer to my problem as I regularly stored stuff in that house's already existing furniture. Respawning zed is something I disabled in a heartbeat for these exact reasons, because I want to feel rewarded for feeling smart about clearing out an area. Farming and renovating an office into a library is challenge enough for me. WITH ALL THAT SAID, I still think that hordes should migrate with a tendency to come across players. It's a good thing to worry about, and it saves the people I'm playing with from finding reasons to worry about PVP. You see, when the people I play with run out of zed to hide from, they start worrying about the people around them, and it just turns into personal drama. You warn people about a horde on the horizon, they stop trying to pick fights, and stuff gets intense from that point forward. I have no problem with zed spawning to a light amount, it's just the fact that they spawn in places I know I strategically cleared that makes me disable it.
