  1. Would depend on the team of people working on it, and the stages of development. If i was developing a game like Zomboid I would focus on the more main things first, and minor stuff such as the Quisling will be saved for a later date to add a bit extra to the game-play, it wouldn't be something I would rush to do straight off, since at this stage in development getting the key stuff down to a T will be more vital, and it would also depend how far into Realism the developers are going to go. Quislings would be a minor detail aimed at getting the player to panic when they thought they found a survivor, and it turns out its not, the foes are identical, and also the adding certain things such as quislings stopping temporarily when a player has a light due to nervous system reactions, at this point in time it won't be worth it, but when adding polish to the final product, enemies like the Quisling could be used to convey the Human Tragedy side of the apocalypse, and could use the same Behavioural script as a Ghoul would with a few modifications.
  2. it's not super human or special infected, it is literally a survivor who is NOT Immune, and can still be infected, as a quote from the Zombie Wikia And of course there will be a chance of death, I mean after all the ammount of bacteria the human mouth contains is enough to cause a serious infection, just the player will not turn after, I think Quislings would add a bit of Human drama to the backstory of the game, also aswell as posing a threat like a zombie would, if a quisling was to wander out from a house, and the player is horded in, the Quisling joining the crowd would provide the player that little bit extra time to escape since the zombies would recognise him as prey and aim their efforts to attack him (if the player is hidden away, if so the Quisling will be taken priority to the zombie closest to him/her) also due to the fact a lot of them would appear to the player as a human, the Panic status won't show up straight away, as the survivor could assume it is another living breathing survivor, before the Quisling attacks. All in all a Quisling is basically a shell shocked survivor. Not a special or superhuman zombie.
  3. For those of you who have read World war z will know what I am talking about, the others maybe not. Quisilings are Survivors who have basically entered a state of shock, that has Mentally turned them into zombie, but not physically, other zombies will attack a Quisling since they can tell the difference, however despite this Quislings will ignore the zombies who are attacking them, also they are oblivious to pain just like Zombies, however unlike zombies they will heal over time. Which will make them more of a threat during the later months when the Initial waves of zombies become slower, and also means they can become stronger over time, depending on what they are doing. It would be interesting to see Quislings in zomboid, since when the zombies start to slow down, the Quislings will still be moving at a fast pace. Also for the new player, it will provide a trick that zombies are actually in-fighting, when in-fact they could just be attacking a lone Quisling, however when bitten by a quisling, the player should go through illness just like when bit by a zombie, but after a while the fever won't kill them and the status will be lifted, Which will also be interesting to see how players will react when they are unsure if they were bit by a Quisling, or a Zombie, and if they will take the decision to kill themselves or wait it out.
  4. Yeah xD we were using ju jitsu techniques aswell as sword work, so both of us were throwing each other a lot, Tomonage seems to work best against armed opponents (Tomonage is the infamous throw from streetfighter) I'm surprised no one called the police on us xD
  5. We wanted to see how it was like for samurai back in the day before they used shinais, despite the finger fracture I did manage to win via a stab to the heart area. Sadly we never thought to wear any sort of protection other than chest guards. So we came out a bit bruised xD
  6. Yup xD I know Miyamoto Musashi killed S.Kojiro by hitting them in the head with a bokken xD Yeah I got my finger fractured sparring with a bokken instead of a shinai... Wasn't pleasant xD
  7. Good point. Gotta admit the movies make the katana out to be way light, and easy to use,. I've been using a katana for a while and its easy to forget sometimes how hard it was when you first pick it up. And even now I get the occasional moment where a cut wouldn't go all the way through. Yup I was wrong xD wonder how a wooden bokken would go, that had a large reputation for brain damage. And still does
  8. I do practice kenjutsu, we practice cutting on Tatami mats thay apparently represents a human limb. I took it as a insult so Appolgies. Anyways if a direct blow to a zombie won't work, cutting it diagonally or across the abdomen would be a way to disable the zombie, it could still crawl which is the only risk, however a quick boot or stab could finish the zombie off. Decapitation would depend on the angle. Though I read in handbook they would occasionally use a tanto and saw through the neck until their opponents head came off, mainly after the battle. Decided to get a bamboo rod and try cutting horizontally, so yeah I see your point about the spinal cord being hard to go through.
  9. Japanese stuck to one sword shape, just with a heavier tip, regardless they were all battle tested, and all withstood it, regardless if they could handle taking on opponents on the battlefield, zombies would be no different. For instance look up Zombie go boom, they're katana test proves it is effective. ALL blades have their uses and drawbacks. To claim superiority over a certain sword is rather silly, they all came from different fighting styles, different cultures. A rapier would be hard to stab at range, through the eye socket, a katana requires the cutting angle and swing to be correct to assure the kill. Regardless no blade is superior they all have their advantage and disadvantages. If you miss with that rapier your getting grabbed and bit. Stop claiming one type of weapons superiority, none are superior, it is prefernce and also Japanese history is filled with katanas wielding warriors beheading others, China's history may not be katanas, but they still beheaded with light swords, also light swords can handle a straight downward swing which could easily kill a zombie, other light swords can achieve the same feat. And beheading with a sword isn't the only way to kill a zombie.
  10. when using a sword there is a chance of getting the sword caught, or missing with both weapons, both will leave you over exposed to the zeds, for instance if your stabbing, and you miss, or hit hard bone and rebound, you are immediately leaving yourself open, you can always hit them, them, however there is always the chance of breaking your hand, with a sword, Heavy sword, or a light sword, there is the same chance, swing too soon and your open. Both leave the chance of being over exposed. and both are able to be caught in bone. Also gotta agree with SoWeMeetAgain, beheading someone if the angle, speed and movement is right is easy.
  11. Would depend on the user, since a slashing/cutting weapon can be used for beheading, however the user would have to be familiar with the edge geometry, unless your trained with the weapon it Is probably one of the worst weapons for people. That goes for any type of cutting weapon.
  12. Personally if I would use a sword rather than a knife. The only way you can kill a zombie using a knife would be depending on the length, base of the skull, and eye socket as said by Fj45, however the close proximity and the chance of exposure to blood is a risk I've owned 3 sword. The only thing a katana would really need is to be cleaned after use, and occasionally disassembled to check the tang,so far I have yet to experience any bends, or major chips, so that I admit I am assuming.
  13. Fixing a bent blade with a hammer would also depend on how the blade is tempered, and the steel used. Yeah I should havef added in oil, which would be in short supply Someone in my kenjutsu class had a blade with a loose wrap, his hands kept slipping off the handle so I would assume that would make killing a zombie a bit harder. Good point, I think a better idea would be when the chiped status shows up on a blade, it would get worse over time before eventually becoming unusable.
  14. Okay so I was a zombie game the other day, and I noticed how all bladed weapons break straight away, I felt it was Unrealistic, and I thought I'd suggest something here, since I think these would be good features in Zomboid, and something original. Right lets use the Katana as a example, There will be two types, however the Player will not know which type they will have. You will have a Cheap made katana, the sword will last as long as a kitchen knife, and can cause the user to bleed on breaking. Forged Katana will Break if not looked after correctly, and will go for several phases. Of course this Won't be for a katana, but any type of sword found in the game, the Fake Katana being the most common, while I European Long sword will exhaust the player quickly, even as a Cheap made, will still cause a lot of knock back due it's weight. Also some of the swords found in homes may come with a scabbard, which will make the Rust status less likely when exposed to weather. The swords will Go through several Phases, each of which will randomly occur during combat. Bent: The blade is harder to use, and takes more strikes to kill the Zombie, can be fixed with a hammer, if the Player decides to unbend it without a hammer there is a chance of the Players foot slipping, and Bleeding., also the sword unless heated will bend over and over again after hammering, too many hammering without heating will ruin the bladeDull: The blade takes more strikes to kill the zombie, a Bend or a break is very likely, sharpening can be done if the player has a sharpener or stone, the stone being the most unlikely to find.Rusty: If the player leaves the sword out and exposes it to the elements, or doesn't use a cloth or a bandage to wipe the excess blood off, the sword will rust, starting from 1% at about 65% it will be impossible to get the rust back to 0% and will have to be in check, at 45% the chances of the sword breaking increase.Messy: The sword has been used in combat a lot, and has been coated with dirt and blood, the player will have to use a bandage or a cloth to remove all unwanted substances.Loose Wrap (Mainly for Katanas) The wrap of the sword has become loose, it takes longer to kill zombies, re wrapping takes 1 hour game time.Chipped: If Blocking during NPC combat is input, weapons can chip from blocking, making it less effective, in this state the player will have to sharpen the sword again, this state can also occur randomly during combat.Broke: what's left of the sword can be used 4-6 more times as a knife/dagger. fatigued: the metal needs oiling. The sword becomes unstable.Of course swords should not be oe shot one kill, the player will be forced to use the sword, and over time the players usage will improve the chance of a instant kill, during the first 25 swings on a zombie the chances of a blade Bending should be at it is highest.I thought I would share this since I have only seen one game use such a system with blades, I know it's a lot to programme for the Devs, but it adds realism, where the chances of finding fake swords can really put the player at risk without them knowing it, some of the statuses such as Chipped could transfer to other weapons such as the Axe and kitchen knife, finding cheap made swords will be more likely in the built up areas, where as Functional Blades can be found anywhere, such as the Gun-store. Anyone like the idea?
