  1. If you say: "We don't want it to be public, period" I am with you 100% If you say this: No way, not being a real explanation (not saying I want one) that applies to almost everything...
  2. Just to be clear: I said it's too big for the game in SP in its current state, I meant: you can find everything you need in West Point without having to go anywhere else. I don't mind running to the other side of the map, but at the moment there's no reason or need to go somewhere else, that's all, especially considering you can't just "clear" an area anymore. I am not complaining, it's just the game as it is now... Of course in MP is very different and makes more sense. [...] defaulting at a too aggressive level [...] even with no stimulus from the player. It strikes people as unexpected and unnatural. It gives an impression that the zombies are all telepathically linked [...]
  3. @EnigmaGrey lol, whatever. Thanks for your time. @LeoIvanov C'mon, I am not saying it is hard, it isn't (and that's funny because I am not a gamer, as I said in other posts, but this game is easy and without late game at this point), I am saying random zombies appearing from nowhere doesn't make any sense, especially if it happens just a few minutes after I cleared the area, just because I moved 1 or 2 tiles??? It's not like I don't know what is going on (but your explanation was good anyway, thanks) as I said I played this game a lot, but I can't keep pretending it makes sense like you guys are saying, it does not make any sense. Tell me the sense (or the need) of clearing the mall if they keep coming a few minutes after you left, you don't even need to go there: the day your character is ready to take them all you have 100+ axes, all the rotten food to survive for 100+ years, water has never been a problem. That's a goal you give yourself, it's not in the game. Truth is the map is too big for SP as it now, especially with this weird tower defence EG seems to like so much, it could be just half WP or even less... If you think most of the servers have loot spawn, like taking the only difficult thing of this game out...I understand why so many people seem to be blind about obvious things.
  4. Oh, you were talking to me then. I like the idea of respawning and migration, never said I don't like it in general, but not how it is now in Survival, many people explained why way better than me. Like it is now it's not exactly the only way and sure it's not the best. I never liked when there was no threat, but I would prefer 100000 times a random horde, even huge, with some logic than these zombies coming from nowhere and in a place I cleared just the day before (or even the same day) and not exactly in the opposite part of the map, just like a block away. It's not increasing difficulty like "next day will be harder", because it is not, same thing again and again, it's just annoying and immersion-breaking.
  5. @LeoIvanov thanks for your reply, the point is topic is about zombie system in Survival , to me is: zombie system = migrating + respawing. The outcome is, quoting Geras, indeed "artificial and immersion-breaking", then if someone loves it, good for him, but that doesn't change anything, it's still artificial and immersion-breaking. Now, if that's what they want to achieve, mission accomplished I played, I play and will play PZ again, I am sure I played more than many people here, so it's not like I don't understand what's going on... Anyway, it's more like going from mendy's eatery to twiggy (to give you an idea about the distance) kill 100 hundred, come back later the same day and finding 200 hundred. Or when I go looting here: http://pzmap.crash-override.net/#0.6610564898236058,0.15592208657374496,28.712103624861488 clear the block, come back with 2 hiking bags, go to the food market to leave collected items, resting or sleeping a couple of hours not more, go back there the same day (or just a few hours later) finding even more zombies than before, all the times, every day. That's not hard, because my character can handle them or run if necessary, but that's just pointless. I have everything, I don't even need to visit the rest of the map, but why should I clear the mall when the mall will be full of zombies again 1 min after I leave? As I said, if I want to play that kind of game I play how is it called...? *search on google* Boxhead. @EnigmaGrey, is that your answer to? I don't see any quote.
  6. Honestly this way in Survival is kind of pointless...Not challenging, because it is not, after you reach +1 sprint and get some points with axe and baseball bats you're already too strong for them; if you select traits that make it a bit harder, it'll take a bit more, but the outcome won't change. I mean, I clear an area, go back to base and find 100-200 or more zombies coming out from nowhere. I wouldn't mind a huge migrating horde, even of thousands, every week, every day, random, but with a logic. Piling up corpses is fun, burning them is fun, but, as I said, pointless. This way it pushes me to visit places only once, loot like there's no tomorrow and never come back, because if I return to base and go back to where I was looting (let's say 3 or 4 in game hours, or even less) I will find hundreds of zombies again! That leads my character to become even more "stationary" then usual, considering after a couple of weeks in game you already have what you need. If you want to move it's just for the sake of visiting other places(out of boredom or to "check" a particular area), because you don't actually need to go there and clearing an area is not possible: you'll find 1000 other zombies there tomorrow. Sure, it's good to have an axe, baseball bats, vitamins, bags to carry things you don't need when you kill them, but...At some point (less than a month ingame) my character is just too strong and can handle them easily and when they're too many can just run and leave. Just killing to kill more of them, if I needed a tower defence game... I know how the game works and the way it handles portions of maps and zombies (and that's the problem), however it's kind of annoying when I clear a place, turn my back for a minute, and find 100 more zombies coming from...Where? I am not complaining and I have no suggestions at the moment, just saying my opinion. I know there's sandbox, etc etc, I am just talking about Survival as I see it at the moment.
  7. Interesting. To me it happens when I try to add shoes to fire too quickly. Forgot about the stack trace... I'll check it next time.
  8. This Especially the ground floor/soil one. About rope, one could only climb without bags (or just small ones?) About bags, in real life a solution could be: rope/sheet ropes + (plastic) basket, but I am not sure how it could work in game and I am not even suggesting it, just saying first thing coming to mind... while CreepyD's idea sounds good and simple enough.
  9. Anyway, that's a terrible way to define interesting posts (not mine, of course) made by polite users. My status is "who cares what he says", but I say anyway: I am really disappointed. Also and I am talking to the fanboy, please, like they're stupid and don't understand there could something else they do not know. They're expressing a concern and or an opinion instead of a useless "I am waiting the next build! Oh, thanks devs! " C'mon...
  10. Yes, obviously. I am sure if it was the rocket scientist to have that specific skill he would have said rocket scientist, so it's the carpenter, but it could be someone else, the problem would still be the same. He's talking about water (and late game, but not directly), that's all.
  11. lol, with all due respect,OP was talking about water (and late game), who cares if it's the carpenter or another character...
  12. Realism? eheh, no, for sure. As the game is now, If I got this right, a bucket doing that, should be in the form of something you "build" in game, place on a tile and use like a rain barrel. Considering the purpose (rain barrels already exist) and the small amount of water collected I can understand them if they'll say "it's not even worth it". To get water from the river you should do something like "fishing": equip bucket, click on water and select "fill bucket", but are you sure you want to drink that water? So I am ok if you do that, but I can live without it. We're talking about a game at a stage where you don't even need to lvl up to be sure you can survive winter and water shut off (lvl4 cooking, lvl2 carpentry, farming and foraging it depends...). The goal is to survive and while I understand people like Enigmagrey playing a bit differently, nevertheless the game has some rules, very different from own rules: to survive you need water and food, at some point there is only one way to get water, unless you want to go to the well every time, of course, or live there. So, if carpenter is the go-to-guy for that... Until the day game forces me to go to the well, let me use the easy way to get there if I want to. It's ok for me if you decided to kill zombies with a spoon only, it doesn't bother me, but I think the game was developed following a different logic: nobody forces you to read the book for beginners/intermediates/advanced/expert/master, but if you want multiplier that's the only way, there's no other way; axe/bat > spoon if you want to kill zombies, but, once again. I don't understand why they feel the need to say "it's perfectly fine that way" or "it's alpha" or whatever they say just because their approach to gaming (or PZ in particular) is different, more relaxed, detached. An expert gamer knows a lot about balance and knows a lot about missed opportunities in games, they see the chance to "make it right this time". Also, this community is full of nice people trying to make a point with facts and really interesting informations (unfortunately, not me ) Also, reducing xp in some cases it's just diluting without adding anything...It's ok, but I really do hope it's not your vision of end game. Also, talking about the picture posted by EG, well, that's fantastic, but... how easy it would be to lose that nice crowd? I tell you, very easy (except there are 3 other groups coming from other directions) and if you have speed lvl1+ , it's a joke. About them attacking my base, as long as they cannot tear down walls, that's no threat either. 2 story house, no stairs, everything on second floor, unless they decide to camp there (but we're talking about a moving horde) I don't have to worry. They could maybe "eat" my sheet ropes one day...but at that point I would ask you to add a ladder to the game (that you can move, instead of stairs) That's why I think the survival aspect should be a challenge (cold, weather, diseases, chance of accidents if doing things with panic or in a particular state)... A good choice in my opinion would be locking some skills so it would make sense to choose this profession instead of 'that' one, good for SP (play more time trying professions), even better in MP for obvious reasons. What's the point of choosing a police officer when he becomes a perfect carpenter, the greatest cook and a great farmer? Ok, small traits could make a difference, but that would be regardless of the profession you choose, and, once again, in the game we know now you don't even need to lvl up that much. I think, (let's pretend), a farmer could even start with farming lvl 5 (because well, otherwise he would be a farmer that can't "farm") and he'll be the only one able to plant some seeds, grow some plants and harvest them , maybe one day you'll find chickens and cows (you know, eggs, milk...); Doctors could deal with a fracture or diseases in a way other won't be able to. Of course in MP, in a game like that, surviving would become easy, so at that point hordes have to be a real threat... Ok, back to Earth now.
  13. lol at the last one. NPCs , we'll see. And even if it was like you say...Right, one thing I need is someone else doing things for me! So, I have some one cooking for me, someone building for me? What else am I supposed to do in this game? Oh, yes, going to the well with a couple of buckets. Or maybe Go killing zombies that are minding their own business while I have everything I need in my safehouse and I don't need anything else to survive? I don't leave the safehouse, because there's no reason to, but of course I can, even now! Well, I think it wouldn't make much sense to talk about it when game is finished... I am pretty aware what we're doing here. About playstyle, well, once again we'll see. I don't see what could be different from now. You lvl up because you need it in order to survive, if you can survive in every other way, maybe not even developing some skills, what would it add to the game, variety? Are you sure? Unless you're talking about "go to the mall please to get this or that and come back here" kind of mission...hmmm...is PZ that kind of game? You say simplify, I don't think so. One thing could be easy to get but hard to maintain, instead of kind of hard (or slow) to build but once done you don't have to worry anymore. Many users made good examples for water, that's not because they're too lazy to build a barrel, but because they want to add survival aspect to the game, helping late game therefore longevity.
  14. Basically, slowing down early game is the solution to fix later game? To make an example PZ could work with characters with specific skills already developed and some other locked or limited (after all zombie apocalypse is the worst moment to start a new hobby or learning in general and we must pretty much work with what we have and what we already know) if late game is the struggle to survive that would not make much difference. Obviously If the focus is on the survival aspect, but if you lvl up for nothing because game's not trying to kill you, leveling up is all you have... Sorry to sound like a broken record... To return ontopic, if this game is about "finding a nice way to level up" this discussion makes sense, talking about things like "why carpentry when I just can get water in the well?" , otherwise... You "need" a rain barrel because it's currently the easiest way to get water and you need water to survive. Once again, my concern is more "ok, now I have water, my plants are fine and I have more mushrooms than I could have ever imagined, now what?" I am aware there's another thread about late game, but I think they're connected. And some people here seem like they don't understand why some users believe everyone would go for the carpenter...
  15. I was about to write the same thing. It's kind of pointless if we'll be able to reach lvl5 in every skill, honestly; obviously if must be role playing then you should add those elements that would allow that to be believable. So if carpenter's advantage is the ability to create a rain barrel, I would like to believe, let's say, a female (let's pretend) doctor could survive using buckets, harder but not impossible. I don't expect her to chop wood and build stairs (but can barricade walls for sure), be the best cook or know everything about farming, I know she's smart and can learn, but she would not be that good. That would help roleplaying , especially in multiplayer, when you need someone to deal with your broken leg or your bruises and you don't want that person to be a carpenter that just learned first aid using tweezers. The funny thing is, you already have all that it depends just on how you use it, so I understand the concern of users knowing it might go in a direction they don't want to because they've already been there. And it's kind of unfair saying: you don't know and you're already "complaining". We talk about what we see and what you tell, so if many had the same impression, I really hope they're all wrong about everything, but listening (even in part) to them could be helpful in order to avoid a session of fixes/balancing, just saying. If everything will be ok and it will turn out they were wrong, I am sure they'll be the first to be happy about it.
  16. I have a problem on this server and being new to multiplayer I don't know if it's normal. When I get close to zombies they disappear, then after a second they reappear; let's say I hit one, the same thing (disappearing-2 secs-appearing again). When they're far no, no problem, just when I get close. Is it about the settings? My ping is around 50ms.
  17. eheh, I was joking, but good to know about the "soon" part I think the best thing is going in the direction character must never feel safe or be completely safe.
  18. eheh, I would like to see that. Especially I would enjoy watching them destroy those 4 story "average joe's" safehouses, however you could still live on the top of that group with the floating floors and sheet ropes, so that looks less scary now.
