Definitely this. Although sharing map data over a distance would probably be a challenge (imagine someone trying to give you directions over the phone, but with detailed accounts of where buildings are located and other notes), there should definitely be a craftable or something that can be placed on a table or counter that players can take a timed action to interact with and add their notes on the area to the map. You could then have these in meta locations, e.g. you find a safehouse with an area map that has potential loot/hazard locations marked already.

It appears that in 41.55, any successful, damage causing attack will instantly reduce clothing durability to zero for the whole piece of clothing covering the protected area. I've seen this with jeans, leather jackets, and shirts over multiple playthroughs since 41.55 dropped. In 41.54, clothing took the appropriate, location specific damage but maintained an appropriate amount of durability for the entire item.
