  1. Okay I have the perfect solution to the outline color problem! Cyan! Light blue should show up against anything.
  2. Hey RJ the highlighting on zeds you're looting is really cool, but the orange kinda makes them look like they got a bad tan (and makes a lot of models look naked). Could we go with green or red maybe?
  3. Please stop posting in colors. They're there for highlighting and formatting long posts, not just posting in that color. Thanks.
  4. I'm okay with this as long as it has about a 1% chance of success and a high chance of smashing a window out, breaking while you're climbing, making noise, and all around just being every bit as terrible in-game as that would be in real life.
  5. And I clearly mentioned that. But it suffers from a similar problem- letting go of a weapon for an iffy chance at disabling a single person. There's a good reason throwing axes existed, and that was that they were made for people carrying other dedicated weaponry. In my humble opinion, weapons aren't going to be that expendable in post-zombie Kentucky. Also, as mentioned, modern throwing axes are a pretty uncommon find- in a town the size of Muldraugh, you'd be lucky to find any at all. Throwing a hatchet or any axe that's not weighted for throwing will have disastrous results. My conclusion? Not worth the time to program in. It fails a lot of the criteria (depending on which specific weapon you're looking at) for a good suggestion. It's not reasonably common, for many it's not particularly realistic, and it doesn't have much impact on the game. I'd much rather support throwing blunt objects, as that's going to be a better utilized and more realistic option for the game in almost every possible scenario.
  6. Because that's the rules. Maybe you should take a moment to go read them again and decide if you want to stay in this community. Now, back to the topic: gonna be late to work, but I'm not saying burglars don't use crowbars from time to time (obviously they do). What I am saying is the extent to which they do, and the effectiveness with which they're used, are largely fiction. More on why after I get back from my other job.
  7. For one thing, I already directly explained this in my post. For another, it was a serious statement- many people haven't seen one outside of movies and video games. It's not as common a tool as you might expect. And finally, we've already had this discussion about your attitude. Post respectfully or don't post.
  8. Yes Kim, gameplay > realism, but sometimes you just have to say no to dinosaurs with laser machineguns on their backs (translation- some things break immersion or are too far from realistic).
  9. And if this were an arpg or arcade action zombie game, that'd be cool, but that really misses the point of what PZ is about...
  10. Here's what I have to say about throwing knives (as someone who's done it for years as a hobby): If you're holding a knife and you throw it, you've just turned a valuable weapon into a rock. Save yourself an amazing, versatile, important survival tool and weapon, and pick up a rock instead. Or, use the knife as it was intended- to stab or cut. Throwing knives is tons of fun, but it has no real application in real life. Measuring revolutions and distance appropriately (and still throwing with enough force to damage) is a skill that takes years to develop with a specific tool. If thrown objects come into the game, throwing a knife should be treated just like throwing a heavy spoon or any other object. It's also worth noting that hatchets and throwing axes and axes are all different things. Hatches are small tools with wide heads. They aren't balanced for throwing and tend to tumble awkwardly. Axes are large tools with simple properties, that also can't be thrown effectively. Throwing axes have thinner heads and specifically balanced hafts to ensure they can be thrown. Throwing axes can be a variety of sizes, from as small as a hatchet to nearly as large as a normal axe. Throwing axes can actually be an incredibly deadly and potent weapon (and have been used in actual, real combat historically). The problem with them in PZ, though, is two-fold: 1) Same point as throwing knives. If you're holding an extremely valuable weapon and you allow it to leave your hands for a chance at a single zombie kill, you are an idiot, you're going to die, and you deserve to die for being bad. If it's just one zombie, just hit it in the head with the axe. If it's not one zombie, congrats you've maybe-killed one, and now have no weapon. 2) Actual, weighted and balanced throwing axes are quite rare. Maybe some sporting goods stores, but in very few homes. The ones I've thrown all had to be ordered in (and they were pretty shoddy quality, too). Spears also share a similar issue with letting go of your weapon, but also have a few redeeming factors: 1) Much easier to make, especially out of every-day objects 2) Much easier to throw/hit with I am a big fan of short-spears as a weapon in general. TL;DR throwing stuff is cool but doesn't exist like you think it does.
  11. Whelp, being insulting towards us is fine, but when you decide you're going to take it out on our members humbly pointing out you could be a bit more friendly, that's across the line. Farewell. Edit: Sorry about that everyone, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
  12. Spade is the equivalent of shovel in PZ. Don't ask about it, don't talk about the difference between the two, and forget we had this conversation. Just trust me on this one
  13. Can't we just agree that you're all using crowbars wrong? Crowbars as a burglars tool is a largely fictionalized thing. They're one of the least effective ways at getting into a place quietly or quickly. I could have gotten through that door in the video in seconds (making the same amount of noise) or in a few minutes (making no noise at all). I'm not saying you can't get into places with crowbars (or that it's not used for that sometimes), it's just one of the worst tools for the job if you're doing something other than smashing your way in (in which case, it's rarely more use than a baseball bat). I'm also not sure why you think crowbars are more effective than a saw for disassembling wooden furniture. I'm not sure if you've ever seen a real crowbar (I work in the building materials industry, with contractors every day). Crowbars are used for destruction, not disassembly. Saws would do a much better job of salvaging material. Unless you're maybe thinking of a cat's paw/nail puller ( which is a very different tool. Actual crowbars are ~3 feet long (1 meter) or longer and weigh 5+ pounds (2.5 kg) or more. There are smaller models, but those aren't found as often and are not what we have in-game. TL;DR they'd be good for fences but neither of your other examples. Also, those metal barrel bolts like in your picture? Those are for privacy, not security. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. They're only as strong as the handful of tiny screws holding them in (or, more accurately, the wood they're embedded into). Don't count on them protecting you from an angry child, much less the living dead. Citations: I sell building materials for a living. I'm also certified warranty/technician for entry doors like the one in the video.
  14. Extremely inefficient and time-consuming compared to a survival lean-to. I'd much rather see them. Neither is practical for long-term survival, so you might as well go with the one that's easier and better. You can get much greater area for less work with a lean-to.
  15. Read the OP, I haven't removed any n's n's are for dev "no's" Unmarked ones are widely considered no by the community, or just not really gone into by the devs but still not worth suggesting It's always been that way!
  16. "Bad at" and "Refusing to participate in" are different things.
  17. Oh yah, totally, like Alien: Isolation. Not procedurally generated, definitely no surprises there. ...oh wait, no. That's ridiculous. Procedurally generated worlds only hit gaming (on a large scale, at least) about 5 years ago. Saying there can't be surprises without it is both direspectful and wrong. Please don't comment if you can't add something meaningful to the discussion. As I warned you on reddit, stop taking every possible opportunity to take a jab at the game/devs. You don't like stuff, cool, but if you keep posting off topic I will suspend you. This is warning number 2, you don't get a warning number 3.
  18. Yup, this is (confusingly) the correct usage in English. Though I don't make any defenses for it being that way.
  19. Not sure who told you this, but it's not true. There's certain things the devs might fight interesting or want to emulate (survivor groups being a big one, though that idea predated TWD, the show just happened to handle them in a neat way), but there's also stuff about the show that's utterly ridiculous, and it definitely isn't (or at least, wasn't at its inception) one of the main influences. Romero and Brooks' lores were much more influential, and it's got its own flavor and theme as well.
  20. That's not realistic or fun, though. People with both of those can still sleep (eventually) even while suffering. Generally speaking, no matter what's going on with a human being, they will still be able to sleep after a long enough time. Making people completely unable to sleep without finding an item makes an otherwise viable (but tough) build essentially unplayable, which is the opposite of what we want to do. Taking tons of bad traits already has downsides, we don't need arbitrary ones on top of it.
  21. Yup, I made a suggestion in this vein a few years ago actually
  22. Positional VOIP is already in the works for the game, just FYI. If people wanted to work on modding it in the mean time that's obviously fine, but just know that it's a concept that will likely be made obsolete soon!
  23. Please remember that we'd prefer people use unmodded versions of PZ for IWBUMS, especially if you're going to report a bug. If it's caused by your mod and you report it you can potentially waste hours or more of dev time trying to fix something that's not broken. If you wanna play with mods that's fine, just try to confirm bugs with an unmodded version if you can, or at the very minimum tell what mods you're using when you report problems. Thanks everyone!
  24. Very, very cool. Something I don't want for the vanilla game but I've always wanted to see as a mod. Excellent!
