  1. Well the only issue I see is that the ringing or alarm would bring even more zeds to your location. I think a simple, yet effective approach would be to craft Can Chimes from empty tin cans and either a rope or some thread. It would most likely be loud enough to wake player, but not loud enough to attract zombies from far away. You could set one up in front of the entrances to your safe house and easily take them down again when needed.
  2. I've always said that solar panels would never come for the exact reasons you listed above, but now that this is a feature I do agree that this would be an interesting way for them to be used. Especially in long-term MP where gas might be all but gone from the map. Now biofuel or gasohol might be a better alternative to keep generators running in the long-run, but I wouldn't mind having solar panels found in public works and RVs to help your car batteries recharge.
  3. @vekfair point. Perhaps only certain walls then? Surely zombies could break through the drywall and plaster of a house if most people can punch holes through them with their bare hands.
  4. I've always wanted to see named books in the game! There's so many classics both ancient and modern and everything in between. The devs could easily add 100+ random book names to the game from The Odyssey to Dante's Inferno to Of Mice and Men to The Hunger Games and more. I think the issue may be copyright of course, but they could get around this by either using public domain books (which many, MANY classics are in), or have fun with it by making spoof novels. "Jerry Totter and the Mage's Rock" "Steven Queen's The Glowing" "The Berries of Rage" "The Pitcher in the Wheat". Personally I'd prefer the latter. Maybe we could even have book series that function like the Skill Books where you need to read the previous to read the next. The PC might say, "I have no idea what's happening" or "I'm not caught up yet!". This would be fun for collectors, as well as sequels probably relieving more Stress and Boredom to simulate the PCs deeper investment in the series. I definitely agree that Books should take longer to read than Skill Books. Reading a 'For Dummies' book IRL is a fairly quick read, but reading a full novel takes a long time. We already have the Page mechanic from Skill Books so it should be easy to transfer over. I think we should also have different tiers of book lengths that provide more and more bonuses depending on length. We could have Stories, Books, and Novels. Stories would be kids books and short stories along the lines of Green Eggs and Ham or The Tell-Tale Heart. Books would be average length books like Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas or Fight Club. FInally, Novels would be extremely long books like Dune or Foundation. This would go really well with the new Music/TV/Movie update we just got. Devs could even go all out and add a Likes and Dislikes feature to character creation where we can choose what genres of fiction, music, and even food our PC does or doesn't enjoy, adding buffs and debuffs to different forms of in-game entertainment. So with that we would have a Book Revamp, on top of the Electronic Entertainment Overhaul we just received. That would just leave the video games you mentioned. Which, in case you haven't seen... they are working on it!! I will try and find the video and edit the link in later This 100% as well. It's dumb you can only OD on Sleeping Pills, since Painkillers, Beta Blockers, and Alcohol can all lethally poison you if you take too much. And you can't even become addicted to any of them! Even though people living in the modern world with no death and destruction around them become totally dependent on pills all the time. Overdosing, side effects ,and addiction is a must for any future updates that include a Health/Psychology rework. Probably even adding more drugs to counteract/enact different effects. Caffeinated beverages besides Coffee, Pepto-Bismol, Ibuprofen/Tylenol, Benzodiazepines (like Xanax), and Amphetamines (like Adderall) are a few I can think of off the top of my head. Devs have previously stated that illegal drugs are 99% chance off the table, but legal medications are definitely something we could still have a lot of fun with!
  5. Pretty sure I've seen the devs mention a Psychology Overhaul coming some time in the future. Would love to see an actual challenge behind keeping your mental health at a functional level. Severe Depression isn't something you can just read a book and eat some chocolate and cure all the sudden. It's something that has an effect on every aspect of your life. Something that makes even keeping your will to live difficult. Currently in game, you just perform actions at a slower rate when depressed, and that makes no sense. Depression should keep you from getting out of bed in the morning. It should stop you from performing all but the most essential survival actions. You should be tired all the time, you should want to just end your suffering, and no amount of entertainment or junk food should bring you out of it. In fact, the opposite should be true. Of course this needs to be game-ified, but anyone who's ever struggled with depression knows that sitting in front of the TV eating crap doesn't help at all. Sometimes it can actually make it worse. The things that really help are eating healthy, exercising, getting out into nature, spending time with loved ones, and accomplishing your goals. Now until NPCs are added, socializing is off the table (I would hazard a guess this is part of the reason they are waiting to update it). However, everything else can definitely be included in the game. Currently, Boredom contributes to Unhappiness, and that makes sense. Eating junk food, reading books, and watching movies is a great way to keep boredom at bay, and it should stay that way. Keeping yourself entertained is a great way to stop the depression from taking hold, but those things should not directly fix your mental illness. Instead, when Unhappiness builds up to dangerous levels, should be lost by a few basic things: Obviously taking anti-depressants, eating hearty and healthy meals, having a high level of exercise frequency, and leveling up skills. Going outside would be nice, but I think it would be easily cheesable and seems like a dumb idea for wilderness survivalists to never get depressed. Maybe Fishing and Foraging can help in this way but I'm not sure how that would work in practice. In terms of what effects Depression would actually have on the PC, I think there could be some simple yet effective things to realistically simulate such a debilitating illness. Feeling a little sad - PC performs actions at a slower rate (probably at the same slowness as current Severely Depressed). Tiredness increases twice as fast. Getting a tad weepy - Same as above, but PC can never be less tired than Drowsy. Tiredness will also decrease half as fast, meaning sleeping twice as long. Depressed - All of the above, and PC will always be Tired or more. PC also cannot perform any Crafting Skills except Cooking, Farming, or First Aid (as well as Basic Item Crafting) Severely Depressed - All of the above, and PC will be permanently Very Tired. PC can only Eat, Drink, Sleep, Loot, Read/Write, and perform Combat actions. PC will also randomly sit down and start to cry which can alert zombies. They will also talk about wanting to end it all and having no hope left. Perhaps if you reach the highest level of Unhappiness, they will commit suicide and it will be Game Over. I think forced self harm could be an interesting mechanic but could be hard to implement, as well as potentially in bad taste. As for what would make you gain Unhappiness, I think what is in the game is already pretty good. Boredom and eating nasty food definitely can make one unhappy, but we definitely need more than that. Like @sprkngsaid, human civilization just ended. Everyone you know is dead (at least until NPCs are added, but even then... MOST everyone). You shouldn't just be able to chill out in your base and feel fine as long as you're keeping busy and not eating dog food and dead rats. Unhappiness should be a constant battle in this environment. In real life, depression and suicide are already issues for many people that have a lot going for them and aren't fighting for survival in a hopeless situation. I think every day should add a baseline +1 Unhappiness to the PC. Meaning, if you do nothing to combat it, you have 50 days until depression kicks in, and at most 100 days until you would be at maximum depression (and potential suicide game over). I think that days in the Winter should even be a +2 or even +3 Unhappiness, as IRL those are the biggest months for depression and suicide. This would add another level of challenge to surviving the winter, since you can't just stockpile food/water and post up until the spring thaw. Drinking and taking Sleeping Pills should also increase Unhappiness after they wear off, since those are obviously depressant substances and will do that to the brain. Other factors like seeing dead bodies, killing X number of zombies, seeing a zed feeding, being naked/injured for too long, and more could also increase Unhappiness. I'd also like to see a rework and overhaul of Stress as well, since it is basically negligible and useless as of right now, but that is a topic for another post. Anger would also be a great thing to add back into the game, and I think it could work without NPCs but again, different time lol.
  6. Good point. If we can destroy any wall with a sledgehammer, then it makes sense zombies can do the same. Would make hordes extremely dangerous especially with the new Louisville update. Now we just need to get realistic gravity figured out and all the sudden zeds can collapse a building underneath you.
  7. Used to be in the game. Probably will return in future updates
  8. Bumping for another great idea. Maybe in the future Health/Injury Update devs have mentioned before
  9. Bumping this to try and get more ideas from the forums
  10. Bump because this is a great idea, especially with the new 3D items!
  11. Thanks, I appreciate it! This game is definitely a huge passion of mine and I love sharing it with the rest of our community here
  12. I'm guessing most of the mods/devs don't have time to respond to most of these so I'll help you out with the answers I know bro: 1. - Will be coming eventually, maybe before B41 stable drops. - Was stated in most recent devblog that sheet and pillow loot from beds could be coming at some point in the future. - Probably won't ever come in vanilla but there are plenty of mods for pillow/sheet crafting - Great idea, I'd love to see it with Tailoring. Maybe with rope or wheat/hay when we get the Farming Overhaul. - The mechanic is already in the game, just not the animations. - Seems like it would make chairs/beds pointless so I doubt it will ever come. - You already have to be on a chair/bed to rest or while sitting on the floor. - Would be a nice feature for realism. Maybe it could slowly lower the weight capacity until it's finally destroyed - No word on that yet. As of now, there's no gameplay reason to even clean yourself unless you have the Hemophobic trait. Ideally, hygiene needs to be an actual mechanic first. - Doesn't really make sense based on the lore. - 3D item models is coming soon. Before B41 stable drops. After that, they will work on containers showing the actual contents as the 3D models themselves. Exciting! - I've seen it in mods, it might come one day. I've never seen any devs talk about it, but an inventory rework probably is on the table as of right now. - Could possibly come after Yuri's Fire Overhaul finally drops. Definitely not before. Flame and Pipe bombs are already in the game for this reason. - Like I said above, Rockstar Mike has been working on 3D item models and they look amazing so far. - Could be a very fun feature. I like it, and it makes a lot of sense, however it might be annoying if zeds can see you through them as well. - Would be hard to make it work without changing trees into 3D sprites, which would be a little uncanny. Maybe it could work by changing into tiles. I like the idea otherwise. - Great idea if the above is added, would make a lot of sense and could create dynamic problems with paths and roads. - Fun and unique trap idea! Tripping/Falling is already in the game, so it should be very easy. - Might come, might not. I would lean more towards a yes than no, however. 2. - Would be a good mechanic, but could be difficult to pull off in the engine. - Another good idea that would make a lot of sense, as throwing mechanics are already in the game. Could use Empty Bottles, Stones, or even Alarm Clocks. - Throwable bombs already exist, but again things like Bottles could be a good weapon in a desperate moment. - There are a good amount of traps already in game, both for food and combat. More would always be nice. I would expect this along with B44 or B45 as a Base Defense Overhaul would be important with those updates. - I've never seen devs talk about this, might just not be useful enough to add. - Would be nice, but would need a complete control overhaul so unlikely. We aren't supposed to be action hero badasses anyways! - You can make fires out of Planks or Logs. Would be nice to use leaves as kindling, but I think a trash/leaf fire would burn too quick to make sense at the game's timescale - Really great concept, I think it's been confirmed before to be coming at some point. 3. - You can already do this with the Pick Up/Place mechanic. Just gotta get quick at it. - Confirmed coming some point after Rockstar Mike's 3D Items. At least for tables. - Not sure what this means... Plastic windows or something? - Would be a really great addition. Most likely coming one day. - Basements/Cellars are coming someday, as soon as they figure out how to implement it correctly. Hopefully we will get sewers and subways along with it! Would be the best update ever!! - Will most likely come with Farming Overhaul. Right now, greenhouses are finnicky and strange. Would help a lot - Could be a good mechanic, but since you need electricity to recharge car batteries, it wouldn't be renewable or sustainable. I would probably guess this isn't coming. - Yes, this would be an awesome mechanic. Maybe we could even add an extra mattress, pillows, and sheets to a Good Quality Bed to make it Great Quality. - Will come one day, but a long time from now. Close to 1.0 if not a 1.0+ feature. Plumbing needs to be it's own skill, and Electrical needs more uses at High Levels. - Probably wouldn't work with the 2D sprites they currently use. I think it would be annoying also.
  13. @barikmorlocBingo, that's my thought as well. There will be a main goal and an ending to the game. The main goal is to rebuild society and secure Knox Country from most threats. The ending will be a Megahorde that continuously spawns more and more until you are completely overwhelmed and die. I said previously it should occur randomly after a certain population/time threshold. However, after a few months and many more hours of playing PZ, I think it would need to be player initiated. My idea is this: a twist on most people's wish to escape to safety, or cure the Knox Flu. You would need to get into contact with the US Military. You would need to go to all the most dangerous places on the map: Fort Knox, the secret research base, the quarantine camp in Louisville and get some special item or make contact with the military itself there. After that you would need to build some complex machines. Perhaps a homing beacon, radio station, etc. Once complete, the military will bring evac helicopters to your location. However, here's the twist. They have thousands of zombies tailing them from wherever they are from. They never land due to this and leave you to deal with the mess they made. Maybe one of the helicopters even crashes, causing even more zombies to alert to your location. This will begin the Megahorde, and you will now be tasked with surviving as long as you can during this event. A secondary meta will form around surviving more and more waves even. This will allow players who are done with their game to take fate into their own hands and have one last hoorah send off for their PC, and showcase all the skills they've maxed out, the weapons, armor, and faction members they've acquired, and the amazing bases they've built up with all the collectibles. All by watching it crash and burn down in a firey blaze of glory. As I said in this thread previously:
  14. That's too bad man but glad you liked my quote about the originality of this game
  15. This is a totally stupid logical fallacy. PZ is not sUpEr UnIqUe or whatever you are trying to claim here. This isn't Thomas Was Alone, QWOP, or Goat Simulator. It's literally The Sims as a zombie survival game?? By your logic, we shouldn't have crafting in the game because you can do that in Rust. We shouldn't have building since this isn't Minecraft. Take vehicles out of the game because you can drive in Forza. And we definitely shouldn't have guns anymore because, what is this, an FPS? If you have fun collecting useless pianos, video games, and pool tables for hundreds of hours; that's perfectly fine. But you are basically playing Home Flipper with zombies at that point. Sure, that is actually a pretty fun aspect of the game. I love finding unique tiles, and building up an impenetrable zombie fortress with cool collectibles. Commander's Hobbies is one of my favorite mods to play with for that exact reason! But, the additions in that mod actually have gameplay uses and therefore have an extrinsic value. They haven't even gotten around to adding uses for most of those cool things yet, so they might as well be statues. Regardless, no one is trying to stop you from playing the way you do and enjoying your time in Knox Country. What we are asking for, is more of a progression to the game that would allow us long-time players to try and push our playthroughs to new levels. It is 100% a fact that NPC Humans and Animals are coming within the next few years. And it has been planned for 10 years that those NPCs will form dynamic, fluid factions unique to each game. So my question to you is, what is your idea for how these factions will interact with the player character? No one is asking for a stationary quest-giver with a big exclamation mark above their head asking you for 10 troll skulls in exchange for XP. However, let's say you are trying to help/join a faction, or if an evil group comes to your door. Would you not be required, by the basic mechanics of the game, to bring them things like food and other supplies? This is an intended feature in the game, it has been since PZ's inception. I understand you like the game the way it is right now, but nothing about this will take away from what you love about it. You will always have the ability to turn of NPC Humans or Animals in Sandbox, just like you currently can with zombies and do a 'Last Man on Earth' survival playthrough. Coming to the forums (and especially a discussion about how to improve the boring end-game), and saying that we should just play collector with an unfinished game that is missing 90% of it's late-game content is both nonconstructive, and ignorant. Most of us want to play this game for years to come, as we have for the past decade. And whether it's map expansions, vehicles, or new skills; everything they've implemented that adds to the late-game has brought us back (along with new players) in droves. I am happy that you, a random fan, enjoys this early access game as it is. But nothing would make me happier than seeing TIS get massive critical and commercial success from this baby that they have been raising for a decade now. And that won't happen without a strong player progression full of emergent gameplay that ultimately ends with a sense of satisfaction and finality. This game is like old Minecraft, there is no 'ending.' Survival and player-generated goals are the whole point, and I love that about the game. However, there needs to be a general goal to build towards, or else every playthrough becomes monotonous. I guarantee once the goal of rebuilding society and conquering/securing Knox Country is implemented, it will open up infinite other ways to play the game. It's the reason MP is so much more fun and long-lasting than SP, because you can actually build towards a goal that feels bigger than yourself. It's also the reason Minecraft is the biggest game on Earth. For being nothing more than a "pixel indie game"; it has communities of competitive PVP, speedrunners, pixel artists, builders, and much much more. Project Zomboid could be bigger and more varied than that, with the level of depth everything has. It just needs a goal that you can build towards in a satisfying way while doing whatever other bullshit you wanna work on. The game doesn't have to end, and nobody wants a cure or escape from the apocalypse. Zombies, Raiders, and Nature will always be a challenge. We all just want a moment you can say, "I basically won," and either keep playing to work on smaller goals, or move on to a new save. I really hope to see the day this comes to the game, and see the vast playstyles this amazing indie masterpiece can spawn with an 'ending' of sorts. And guess what, your Collectathon will be one of them along with many more.
  16. I think this could definitely be a fun addition to the game. I agree some might say it breaks the purpose, but with a Sandbox setting this would be easy to change. Plus, the sign could spawn in a place that's easy to miss; or you might just forget to check for the sign before entering the house. Even without considering that, it still isn't that big a deal because car alarms would always be a factor that pose the same threat. I think it would be easiest to implement this by making it similar to generator spawns. Have the sign randomly spawn on different houses and then flag a certain percentage of those houses to have an alarm based on the settings. Then, potentially add a few more alarmed houses again based off settings. Even better would be to also add a physical alarm control pad to the house so it's possible to 100% determine if the alarm sign is a dummy or if there was none to begin with by looking through windows to try and spot one. A medium-high electrical skill could even disarm it before it goes off, giving a reason to level up Electrical beyond level 5 or 6.
  17. It has to be. I mean, right now, you hop into a car in the middle of summer and it can be 100 degrees in there. Having a working A/C unit in your vehicle is super important if you don't want to get Hyperthermia. No matter how hot it is outside, though, you take one step inside a metal trailer and it's always a comfortable room temperature. It just doesn't make sense unless they purposely made it that way while they have a more realistic indoor heat mechanic on the backburner. Very Hot Sandbox playthroughs are ridiculously easy as well. While Winter and Snow are serious, deadly survival challenges; Summer and Heat Waves are basically minor inconveniences. Most people don't even know Hyperthermia is a thing in the game. I've only ever seen Overheating from being overdressed or forgetting the A/C in the car for a couple minutes. I imagine when devs eventually get around to adding this into the game, all of these will be factors. I picture A/C units and fans being loud and attracting zombies, forcing you to manage your base's temperature in the summer while balancing the volume level. Alternatively, you could open windows to allow airflow in (wind could play a factor in this since it's already built into the game), but it would obviously allow zombies an easy in for their next dinner. Knowing how in-depth the PZ devs like to go with these kinds of things, I wouldn't be surprised if like light and other electrical devices played a factor. Too hot? Close the curtains and turn off all the lights and the place will start to cool off. Have a bunch of TVs, radios, and fridges running in a tight space? It might just heat up the room even more. Building/wall type would probably play a factor as well. Places like trailers and storage units would probably heat up quickly since they are small rooms with large metal surfaces. Old, wooden buildings and player built bases will probably have natural airflow and wont heat up as much. Big, drafty rooms like the kinds in warehouses and factories would probably stay the coldest. Maybe even body temperature could affect the heat in a space. A bunch of players all sleeping in one room will probably wake up sweaty and overheating.
  18. Well the floor is also a container you can dress and undress onto, but I get what you're saying. Maybe one day we could define Outfits to change in and out of.
  19. @Papa Juliet WhiskeyGotcha! So like taking the Dash Rancher, Franklin All Terrain, and Chevalier D6 and making them drive normal speed off-road. Maybe even having special Offroad Tires that could randomly spawn, or you could find and install to allow the vehicle to do so. Maybe a Quad or Dune Buggy would be a fun offroading vehicle, not sure how popular those were in rural Kentucky during the 90s. Here's hoping that we'll eventually get rideable vehicles like Motorcycles, Bikes, and the like whenever they get around to adding functional sitting animations.
  20. Simple enough idea, would just need an Ice Tray that could be filled with water and put in the Freezer. Once frozen, you could remove the ice and get maybe 10 ice cubes. Plus, the devs could add a Bag of Ice! This could either be crafted with the 100 ice cubes and a plastic bag, or found commonly in the Popsicle Freezers we find in every Convenience Store. The Bag of Ice could keep the food in the cooler colder for longer, maybe working the same as 150-200 individual ice cubes.
  21. Now that VHS tapes and CDs have been confirmed for Build 41, I had a few ideas that could further the depth of the new system. First things first, it's safe to assume that VCRs will be functional, since it was said in one of the blog posts that there is a high chance of blank VHS tapes spawning in residential homes. This will hopefully allow us to record TV shows for ourselves instead of finding them. We also know that after this system is added, watching TV and listening to music will award buffs/debuffs to the PC. Since this is the case, I think it would be a good idea to add 1 or 2 more TV stations to help fill out this mechanic. An HBO parody for taping the new movies, and an MTV parody for taping music videos of the new and old songs. Both were huge TV channels in 1993, so they would be prime candidates for PZ. Another idea I had was to simply add a Walkman and Cassette Tapes. The Walkman would basically just be a reskinned CD player that only works with Cassette Tapes. It would be more common than the CD player, but with the tradeoff of needing to rewind the cassettes and potentially even having a limited amount of uses on each tape. Essentially simulating them wearing down over time. Side note, I think it would be awesome if there was a similar functionality added to VHS tapes, making them a limited commodity and adding more use to the blank tapes themselves. There will be 53 CDs, so maybe we could limit the cassettes to only half of those, 13 audiobooks and 13 music CDs. Perhaps the Valutech Radio could have a built in cassette player, so we could even tape over radio stations and songs we hear on the radio. This way there are different reasons to use either a Walkman or a CD player. Now one thing we don't know yet is how this system will work in terms of acquiring the actual VCR. There is already a CD Player in the game, which will almost definitely have new functionality after this update. However, in the blog video, we see that the Premium Technologies Radio has a CD Player function as well. Since this is supposed to be the high end radio, I would guess that this is built into it and so this radio will act as a 2-in-1. This makes sense for the CD player, since there is already a portable CD player in the game. What about the VCR, though. The same is probably true for the Premium Technologies TV, since we see the VCR specifically in that one as well. However, I think the VCR should also be an external device you can find too. Using a similar system to the interchangeable car parts, but with Electrical instead of Mechanics skill, you should be able to hook up a VCR to any TV. To expand further on all of these concepts, I think there should also be cassette players/CD players for vehicles. Some vehicles could come with them built in, but they would have full functionality for installation and removal just like car radios. This way, you could use your CDs and cassettes on the go, which could be a great time to manage your mood or even gain some skills (assuming some of the audiobooks will be skill books) while you are traveling from one location to another. In real life, we all decompress by listening to the radio while commuting home from work. In PZ, now you'll be able to do the same while coming home from looting runs. This is probably the biggest idea I have, since it's the most likely to come to pass as it takes the least amount of coding and new systems to implement successfully. These are just a few ideas I'm spitballing here, but overall I am super excited just to finally have functional VHS tapes and CDs. This will finally change the unrealistic meta of bingewatching Life & Living in the first few weeks of a playthrough, allowing more opportunities for early-game ops as well as more in-depth RP. Plus, having more ways to pass the idle time and manage your moodles will create more engaging gameplay, and more varied and dynamic stories.
  22. Take a look at these 2 old threads: Gasohol and Biodiesel have been discussed in-depth there, as well as other potential power sources. I actually left a comment last year about how I hope they'll eventually remove the infinite gas stations eventually. Since they now have, I assume either renewable gas or renewable energy (or both) must be coming soon. If not, a lot of long-term MP servers will be running out of gas pretty soon lol.
  23. Like @Pandoreasaid, it's coming! Probably along with B42 afaik
  24. You should check out the mod Easy Undressing, it's probably the simplest and most intuitive way to implement a feature like this. You can just right-click any clothing item to either equip all items in a container, or unequip all items on the player. So useful for throwing on all your armor during a horde siege. Devs should definitely consider adding a feature like this.
