DoritoS got a reaction from trombonaught in Optional Daily Challenges
Been awhile since I played, largely because of a lack of direction. Once your character becomes comfortable there's nothing to do but run your rounds as usual which becomes boring. Here's my suggestion to give the game more longevity, add daily challenges. I'll leave the challenges themselves to the creativity of the community to come up with, but I think it would be best if the challenges came in the form of internal dialogue so they don't interrupt the atmosphere the game builds on. Naturally there would need to be some kind of reward, ideally an item that is harder to find but related to the challenge. ie. finding packets of seeds and once you find the last one a bag of fertilizer is generated in the same container.

More professions should have perks unique to them, similar to how the Ranger can move through trees faster. Some professions are rather weak, especially when they can be leveled up passively while playing under another class which can make it difficult to justify choosing them. I'd suggest buffing the burglar with a lock pick skill that lets you open locked doors without triggering alarms.

XD I'd like people to get the full experience not use admin powers for everything. Using the screen for referrence sounds like a work around again, which is fine, but it can be seen negatively. I just don't really understand all the criticism for such a simple item lol

I can't tell you how many times friends and I have been trying to lead a relatively new player to a landmark so we can meet up in game. The compass item would function much like a digital watch. Once in your inventory, a small compass would appear in one of the corners of your screen indicating the direction you're facing. It's a bit hard to believe this isn't an item yet. As for where they would spawn, I would suggest them showing up fairly commonly in residential areas, like your spawning locations and more rarely on zombies. Obviously you want the player to find one within the first half a dozen houses they loot because they're especially useful early game. If you're exploring the deep woods to find a cabin it would be very useful as well.

To me, it makes no sense how you are somehow able to just pour a bunch of dirt on a concrete roof and suddenly bam, you've got yourself some crops. I think a more logical step would be implementing planter boxes, like raised garden beds so you can grow crops on roofs or on concrete/non-soil surfaces. Plots, planters, boxes...anything like that would be more immersive and make more sense.

I actually got a random idea.  And I believe it would be possible to implement with new weather system.
I'd love to be able to watch weather forecasts on TV or listen to it on the radio. I believe knowing probability of a rainy weather in a particular day, would help with farming and planning long runs. At least as long as TV and radio stations are broadcasting and you still have power. Maybe we could even be able to get that info later from survivors broadcasting on HAM radio from local meteorology station or something,  (probably less acurate than the professional ones).

I've made this suggestion quite a long time ago and to my knowledge hasn't been implemented yet. It would be great if I could get some feedback on the implementation of this idea from someone on the dev team.

Items that have been added to your favorites should float to the top of your inventory to make management easier. Simple suggestion, probably easy to implement, but also not a priority. I don't see anyone being in disagreement with this idea.

Dog Food Its Wet its Gross I would not recommend eating it if you had the choice
But when the apocalypse Hits Its one of the few balanced meals

Alright i'll get to the point

Dog food in game gives 50 unhappiness and that makes sense
but why cant it be added to meals

i'm sure if you made a stir fry with  some dog food, canned, veggies and assorted spices
it might just be bearable, well adding much needed fats and protein to your meal

So i just think you should be able to add it to meals
its not a big change but it would be nice

    Thank you for reading =)

DoritoS reacted to MrCoffeePants in Amputating + Prosthetic arm/leg and Anesthetic
while playing PZ i got bitten on my hand and i knew that i'm gonna die in 2 days and i thought "man i wish i could amputate my hand and craft prosthetic arm like Merle Dixon from TWD". So here i am.
i think there should be at least one way to avoid getting zombified so i thought of these ideas
imagine when you get bit and got infected and you have maybe 2 hour until the infection spreads up into your brain. if its too late amputating is pointless so you gotta be quick. So you reached out to your back pack and got the saw now just saw off your arm like that? nah not too easy you need some carpentry skill and medical skill to amputate your arm smooth and clean and you don't wanna get rusty infection so gotta disinfect that saw. But hey if you feel too much pain you will pass out (*passing out from agony should be added right?*) so you need something to get rid of pain.... no not pain killer , you just gonna swallow some pills and amputate your arm without feeling any pain? that's unrealistic, you need new type of rare medicine called "Anesthetic" you could find it from hospital. And don't inject too much Anesthetic you could pass out instead of pain now you're bleeding you need some serious medical treatment. after long bandage-ing and cleaning the bleeding finally stopped now you don't have your lovely right arm....
(*oh btw i think they should add lefty/righty hand options too so it affects the amputating, if you choose lefty and you got bit on your right arm and lost, it wont affect your damage/force/efficiency since you're lefty*)
after losing your lovely righty arm your crafting speed greatly decreased by 75% (if you're lefty it could be 50%) maybe some recipe that needs 2 hand to craft might become impossible to make and your damage/force greatly decreased too. But don't lose hope! you could make Prosthetic arm if you have enough skill points on medical/metalworking/carpentry/mechanic and make pincers type of hand or knife type. pincers affects crafting speed and can hold 2 handed weapons. knife type for combat purpose and its not permanent it needs repairing you can replace it with kitchen/hunting knife, durability depends. now if you get bit on the leg make sure you have your prosthetic leg ready or get some cane/stick because you don't wanna crawl around like a fool. after amputating your leg you could make easy less carpentry level needed "peg leg" but you cant just walk again like a normal person again you are way slower than before but don't worry after walking/running around for certain time you'll get used to it and gain experience so you will walk faster and faster each day. you can make iron and wooden peg leg (wooden peg leg needs repairing/replacing)  (iron peg leg durability permanent but much heavier and slower.... which is good tho because you can almost one shot stomp kill those K.O zombies).
now i don't want these amputating to be easy/anyone can-do thing it should be something almost impossible has small chance of surviving situation you need lots of resource patience and skill points and don't imagine that prosthetic arm as sci-fi robotic arm imagine it as realistic ancient hand-made prosthetic arm so my suggestion is not "unrealistic" losing your hand is so punishing you can not reload your guns and if you lost your main hand your pistol aiming will decrease, you cannot use shotgun you really need pincers hand to use shotgun or wield 2 handed weapon. But hey at least you saved yourself from that infection right? i hope you guys like this suggestion!

DoritoS reacted to zeeb in Heatmap Migration
Any plans on adding a heatmap migration system? DayZ has something similar to where the zombies tend to spawn more in higher areas of activity. Maybe have so zombies focuses on migrating to areas of higher activity? That way you can't just get bored to death living in the woods. Or having a base far off on the edges of the map. Maybe as a choosable option in Sandbox mode?

The way I think it works is that your character constantly puts off "heat" which is then given a +% chance to the spawning system, which in this case would be the pathing system. The higher the heat signature the higher the chance of the game picking a pathing system towards that location.
Heat should be increasing the % so its still somewhat randomized, but enough to actually matter without making basebuilding useless.

This would be really nice in my opinion but I don't know how hard it is to implement it.

there is something what im missing since very beginning-any signs of military presence, and here's idea to introduce few of them:
    -APC-bulletproof and very durable vechicle
zombified soldiers-at least to add sprites
-military trucks with supplies-driveable of course
    -MRE(meal ready to eat)
    -automatic weapons

DoritoS reacted to spyjack in New Recipe/Magazine Retention
I don't know about you, but if I was to pick up a detailed magazine on how to do something I've never done before, like creating a metal crate from scrap or knowing the basic ins-and-outs about a certain vehicle, I wouldn't be able to know how to do it perfectly, forever, after one quick glance.

Currently the 'recipe' magazines in-game that you learn new abilities after one read are a bit powerful and quite a bit of clutter.  To help make the magazines more than fire tinder, they should instead be limited time recipes added that stay longer the more times you read the article, up until it stays forever. This way you'd have a reason to collect and read them several times. Reading it repeatedly in one sitting should not, however, add extra to the retention time, instead it should only add to it after X many in-game hours (perhaps between 1 to 3). Starting with say, a generous 3 hour retention span it could double each time you read it. Traits like Slow Learner and (I think it is) Fast Learner would make it take more and less rereads respectively to finally commit the recipe/information to the character's memory.

It of course would have to be tuned so it isn't too micromanage-y or tedious, perhaps a timer when hovering the magazine letting you know how long until you forget (either with an actual time amount or a generic, Already Read, Getting Fuzzy, Forgotten, status)

DoritoS reacted to Trojan_Turps in Wool Blanket
A Wool Blanket is a very good survival item with many uses.

    Sleeping aid
Lie on/under for comfort and warmth.
Use as a makeshift sleeping bag.

    Clothing
Can be used as a cloak or poncho.
    Scratch and bite resistant.

    Storage
Can be used as a bag.

    Shelter
Can be use to create a 'lean-to'.

**Naturally water proof and fire retardant**

With the new weather and clothes on the way etc. it would be very nice to use a blanket to-
Put on a bed for warmth while sleeping. Wear as a cloak for warmth and protection from the rain. Use as a bag
It would also possibly be cool to use as a sleeping bag or shelter but that might be a bit too much?

    Down sides to wool
    Heavy (especially when wet)
    Itchy
When worn like a cloak you will be laughed at because you want to be a medieval warrior...

DoritoS got a reaction from trombonaught in Compass Item
I cant spend a long time responding to this right now because I'm at work, but the compass would make giving directions to new players more simple in that all you need to do is face your character in their direction to know where they should go. It's easier to say "East 120 degrees" than it is to give a bunch of landmarks that they ask you about 4 times and still get lost.

How exactly do you know you're going straight without a compass? You don't. You can think you're going straight and EASILY be off a couple degrees completely missing the cabin. I've been looking at the online map running "straight" towards a cabin with multiple people and we still missed the damn thing, it's not hard.

Compasses would be a fantastic addition to Zomboid for several reasons. I'm honestly dumbfounded by the backlash. They're 1) realistic. I guarentee at least 1 person on your block owns a compass, so why wouldn't you find one as a surviver? 2) optional. Wanna use a bunch of weird half-measures like dead bodies at intersections? Go for it. 3) Helpful. As I said, they're good for new and experienced players and in time, appriciated. Especially as the map keeps growing.

DoritoS got a reaction from crossed in Inventory Interface?
This is probably one of the things that irritate me most in PZ and I'm not even sure what you call it. That little line you can drag that separates "item" and "category". Why in the name of god is the space for items so damn small while category has an ABSURD amount of useless space? Every time I need to open the game I have to re-adjust it because I can't tell how many of one item I even have. By DEFAULT please, in the name of Spiffo, move that little damn line over so item and category have at least a 30-70 space ratio. I can understand not making them 50-50 for aesthetic reasons i guess? Maybe it's to keep more of the screen visible while in inventory, but still.

Please tell me everyone else want this?

Yep, the keyboard+mouse version of the inventory stays the way you adjusted it even if you start a new character, it's just the controller version that resets every time you quit.
