NPC's by a country mile. Also want to see a horde!!!! I became a PZ player a little late (got the steam version upon release) and so am eagerly awaiting a time when safehouses are tested and hordes bring the uncertainty and anxiety of my first few playthroughs back into the game.

Pant thieving bastards!

Trying to figure out why I always end up without shoes or pants (in the game that is). Still don't know what I am doing to engender this "cavalier" attitude. I don't know how many rage inducing friggen times I have been freezing my arse of in game, only to realise I was actually freezing my arse of in game. It always seems to happen when I am overloaded from a looting run. I am sure my avatar has either nudist tendencies, or just fails to appreciate the sense of safety pants bring to a zombie apocalypse. Screw the shotgun or baseball bat, in my house a glass cabinet reads "In event of apocalypse, break for pants". My most degrading death (From a meagre selection of 3 currently). Was dying in the cold, the rain, infected, without pants/vest and armed only with my good intentions and a snazzy pair of slippers. Still remember seeing my tragic corpse lying between the medical centre and the grocery store, and thinking the PZ equivalent of THATS XCOM BABY.

EDITED the OP to reflect the suggestions made by Enigma Grey that resulted in a solution for me, and most likely many others too. I think the solution writeup is straight forward enough, let me know if it needs editing.

Just a final UPDATE. Well my under SPEC machine is now playing the game at a full 30 FPS (Which is what its locked to so no issues there), was kinda worried it would be something horrible based on what other have been saying about their frame rates. Using HIGH lighting setting and set to 1440*900 (or whatever it was), will bump that up to 1080p tomorrow night. Also will try without the compatibility setting and see if it will run or not as I would dearly like to be able to zoom in and out. Went for a run, didn't seem to drop much (maybe a couple of frames according to FRAPS). The only performance issues were some occasional lag spikes where performance dropped to about 2-5fps for about 1 second and then rocketed back up to 30. It happened a bit to begin with then dropped off significantly, I assume its doing its meta-game thing in the background. As the lag is for only a second at the most, I cant see it being much of a problem. And that only using one of the graphic cards so pretty damn happy, 12 hours work for me, 10 minutes for a person that knows what there doing, now all is well. I can now go to bed for all of 2 hours before going to work, someone is getting way overpaid to fall asleep at work today BTW Fay Thanks for the good wishes, glad I could provide some help for you but I am sure EnigmaGrey will solve your issues for you if they can be solved. Friggen legend are you !!!!!!! I now can see in game, no more black screen of smothering. I have graphics OK So I am guessing that my installation of java somehow affected the batch file. The second one I had was obviously an altered one (copied from the forums), but the first one was as the game installed it. You might want to change the STICKY on STEAM (if that is within your purview) as that is what I was following to resolve the issues. (At least in the beginning) Thankyou for your help I really appreciate it. :) :) OK that makes sense. I see now why I was getting confused. On my batch file the 64 bit version of JAVA was being referenced and I was assuming that was the same for the above poster, so I couldn't figure out how the -server flag was going to change where the batch file was pointing (as they do not have a 64 bit os). So that should mean that in their batch file they would still need to point the batch file to the 32 bit version wouldn't they ? Otherwise the removal of the -sever wont do much will it ? Or do I have this wrong. Hang on, ignore the above I just realised they are on XP and therefor Program File does not indicate 64 bit java, like it would on W7. I was expecting their to say Program Files (x86). Ok now I am good, sorry to bother you again. Your still a legend BTW.

I understand that, I just don't know how to do it. I didn't realize that this computer is so out of date. Well, it doesn't belong to me, and I have opportunities to try and play the game on a better computer. I just need to know; I just bought the game, and its on my Steam account. Can I install the game on a different computer? Regardless; I would really love to try and get the game to work, just to see how smoothly it will run. It may be playable. Please help. Thank you very much for your patience. OK in answer to our questions 1. Yes absolutely, as it is hooked to YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT and not the computer. STEAM would probably have an issue (as it should) if you tried to play it from more then one place AT THE SAME TIME but other then that its fine. I have done it many many times, your STEAM library is their for life (or until STEAM goes broke, hopefully not the later). 2. EnigmaGrey knows more about Java then I do (and is currently helping me resolve my issues) so I would suggest we follow his advice and see what happens. OK DO what ENIGMA GREY said its eactly what I was typing but he double ninjad me so follow his instructions (and also no that bit was for me) I am going to test out the stuff he/she did for me now, but I will keep an eye on your posts in case he/she goes offline. @ENIGMA GREY does the -server option force java in 64it mode, I figuredvthe way the batch file was written it was directly referencing the 64bit java and that would need to be changed to reference the 32-bit version (for the above poster) ????? Look I obviously don't know much about Java AT ALL, C++ is my forte, but it just seemed confusing to my java naive brain. No probs if you are too busy to reply, I am just interested that's all, and I can always google it later. Also I was aware that the game came with JAVA, but from reading the threads online it suggested (or at least appeared to me) that the BTAHC File required a separate installand every thread I read kept telling me to reinstall JAVA. BTW AM testing the BATCH file now.

I edited my post, you must not have read it. What Enigma Grey is saying is REMOVE the -server tag from your batch file. I will guide you through that if you want ? Bring up the BATCH file in NOTEPAD

Computer: Via C7-D Processor 1800MHz 1.60 GHz, 1.93 GB of RAM Physical Address extension. I don't know how. OK I thought you might be on XP when you mentioned the MSDOS batch file. First you are most definitely on a 32-bit machine, so like the other poster said that batch file will fail as it is meant for a 64-Bit system. The bad news is your system is very old, released in approx 2005-2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VIA_C7) and is severly under the min specs for this game. Your processor is single core only. Your Processor speed is 0.5GHz under the min spec and is below the min recommended chipset. Your RAM is at the very best at the absolute minimum and that's not getting to your video card which may be an issue too (its not listed above so I cannot tell, but given the age of your system it cannot be too good). Look I am not a big believer in ragging on people because their machine does not meet the requirements, as quite often games will run on lesser machines, just at a slower speed. That said, yours may well have issues regardless. I am willing to work with you to try and work out why the 32-BIT version of jre is failing (we can grab an error msg like we did before and see what the problem is) ,although I assume your specs will at some point cause issues. That said I will let you make the decision of whether you want to try or not, as I have started out helping you I will do my best to see it through. So let me know if you want to continue or not, cause if not I will go back to solving my own issues Improbable. Would you mind getting the error again, verbatim? Perhaps the whole console output? if you're having any trouble keeping the window open, just add a couple extra PAUSE statements, each on their own line. OK doing it now but last time I ran it from the CMD prompt to get the error as it was too quick to see. Ok well we have found "A" problem, hopefully it is "THE" problem. Error: missing `server' JVM at `C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\server\jvm.dll'. Please install or use the JRE or JDK that contains these missing components. Ok this is telling me that you do not have a 64-BIT version of the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) installed at the moment. Now this could be because one of the following : 1. You don't need it as you do not have a 64-BIT processor (that's what my other post is trying to determine). 2. You have not installed it or the installation failed to install properly. NOTE : This is talking about the 64-BIT version of JAVA which is DIFFERENT to the 32-BIT version. Most people with 64-BIT machines/os install both. Good news is, if this is the sole problem then it is fixable. Get back to me with the info from the other post as soon as you can.

Yeah sorry about that its shorthand for OPERATING SYSTEM and yes I am referring to windows. Here is what you need to do to find out the info I need. Go to 1.Hold down the WINDOWS key and press the "PAUSE" key. 2. A window will appear and it will tell you what your OS . Write down the information under the headings WINDOWS EDITION SYSTEM TYPE PROCESSOR An example, taken from my system , is WINDOW EDITION - Windows 7 Ultimate SYSTEM TYPE - 64-BIT PROCESSOR - Intel Core 2 2.93Ghz (yours will bevery different in all likelihood) Post back when you have the info. Well done. Just reviewing it now. See if you can get the other info from my previous post.

1. OK What I would like you to do is run the BATCH file again (ie the MSDOS BATCH FILE called PROJECTZOMBOID) and this time when it fails DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY so that the BLACK WINDOW with the WHITE TEXT on it remains visible. 2. Now bring up WINDOWS NOTEPAD and drag it so it is NOT obscuring the MSDOS BATCH FILE window from (1). 3. Now RIGHT CLICK on the PROJECT ZOMBOID MSDOS BATCH FILE WINDOW (Ie the Black and White one) and select the SELECT ALL option (this should change the colour of the text on the screen from white to balck, and the background from back to white (only in the PROJECT ZOMBOID MSDOS window of course). 4. Now press CONTROL-C (ie hold down control and press C) 5. Now navigate across to the NOTEPAD window and right click on it and select PASTE. What should happen is that the text from the window should have been copied across to the notepad window. If this does not work just repeat the process again as it should work fine. Just make sure you do not click on any other windows between steps 3 and 4. Post the TEXT from notepad onto these forums, or let me know if there are any other issues. Please do steps 1-5 carefully as it will be very difficult for me diagnose a problem from this end if you are messing the steps up.
