  1. My request is simple I want to create a trait that does nothing but give you a ton of negative points in the character creation screen so I can create whatever character I like, including ridiculously overpowered ones, by choosing that trait. Is that easy to do, and if the answer is yes, how? I did search for a similar mod on the forums, but couldn't find one, btw, (Which I thought was a bit surprising.)
  2. Saidly, this is a confirmed no. Because you need to dangle a baby in front of the zombie carriers to get them to move, and kids are a big No No.
  3. I'm not sure why a veteran would have more pain-resistance than people from other physically demanding jobs.
  4. I looked your post up, and the idea is virtually the same, yes. I don't think it would be too hard to program it, but my understanding of programming is rudimentary at best. It also shouldn't be hard on the computer to simulate horde migration, especially if you keep it simple and there is no need to make it very elaborate or realisting because it all happens out of sight. But it would create a lot of interesting situations without feeling gamy, I think.
  5. I would really love some system in place that simulated hordes randomly migrating around the map. This could be as crude as a system that keeps track of a number n, that is on coordinate x,y and traveling in a certain direction v. Once a horde reaches a coordinate that corresponds with the part of the map that "exists" around the player, the game would spawn a horde of n zombies that travel in direction v in that location This could send the horde on a collision course with you and/or your base, but more likely it would miss it, walk "off" the simulated part of the map and become a set of numbers again. Unless you give them a reason to investigate of course. So when you wake up there could be a massive horde passing by just out of sight, and when you decide to read a book on trapping you will never know, but if you, however, decide to chop you some wood, it will be a very, very bad day a la TWD season 2 finale

    RATS

Rats are heavily dependent on the presence of humans to exist in the huge numbers they exist now. If anything, rat populations would collapse shortly after humans disappear. There would probably be an increase in their numbers due to all the unguarded food lying around, but when that's gone, the rats would die off en mass with it.
  7. Hemp is an old fashioned word to refer to the plant officially known as Cannabis Sativa Marijuana is slang to refer to the (usually dried) female flowers of either C. Sativa or the closely related species C. Indica or a hybrid of those two. The female flowers tend to be rich in psychoactive agents especially when they are unfertilized. Cannabis is Latin for "Over-hyped"
  8. @Jonientz The differentiation between physical dependency and mental dependency is mostly artificial. The mind is a function of the brain, and the brain is a physical organ. Sleeplessness, irritability and anomalies in the REM sleep seen in marijuana withdrawal are not essentially different from cramps and shivers seen in heroin withdrawal, They symptoms aren't nearly as dramatic and are seen as psychological, is all. Also note that so-called physical withdrawal symptoms are not at all indicative for the severity of an addiction. For example, caffeine withdrawal is often partly physical in the form of rather severe head aches while cocaine is only "psychologically" addictive. Cocaine addiction, however, is far more serious that caffeine addiction. Marijuana doesn't cause addiction like porn does, it does cause addiction because using weed directly alters the composition of the brain chemistry, just like all the other drugs do. @BLATANTELY_POTATO. Krokodil AKA desomorphine doesn't eat flesh cause massive tissue damage. Clandestine preparation more often than not results in a product that's heavily contaminated, and it's these contaminants that do the damage. One of the many arguments in favor of legalization of drugs, is the fact that quality control would result in a reasonably pure product. So if anything, the mutilations caused by illegally produced and therefore contaminated desomorphine are actually an argument fin favor of legalization and/or regulation.
  9. First we had the myth of reefer madness, and now we have the myth of the harmless, non-addictive miracle herb cannabis that's not only fun, but also cures anything from head aches to cancer. While it's most certainly not the worst drug around, it's hardly harmless and non-addictive. In fact here in the Netherlands marijuana seems to be one of the leading causes in drug dependency as only alcohol and heroin users seek help more often. And while addiction is typically relatively benign, marijuana can and does destroy lives. Marijuana has some promising medical applications in the area of symptom treatment, it's medical potential is often exaggerated and medical marijuana is mostly quackery. I'm all for legalization, but the over-hyped memezation of cannabis is a bit of a pet peeve for me. Research rather consistently classifies cannabis as a medium-risk drug.

    Bicycles

Why? Of course I support bicycles. They make a lot more sense than most other vehicles in a zombocalypse.

    Banished

I thought I give you all a heads up this one is for sale on Steam this week. It's a rather slow-paced often relaxing yet also challenging city-builder/survival game. Once you get the hang of it, it's fairly easy to keep the balancing act up for a long time, but almost always some unforeseen circumstance will throw a stick in your spokes, leading to one of the notorious death spirals this game is kinda known for. Also Malthusian catastrophes.
  12. Actually this is not an aphorism but a flawed generalization and an insult. If results from experience with mortal danger the past say anything about being chased by a fictional cannibalistic horde in a hypothetical future, I will not be wasting time on praying to and/or thanking deities nor will I see mundane things like unlocked doors as a miracle.
  13. I've logged 201 hours on Steam, and God knows how much on Desura before that. It's one of my most favorite games ever, despite that it's technically not even a real game yet.
  14. It's essentially a good idea when handled carefully, but it would probably cause a lot of controversy regardless and it isn't strictly necessary. I strongly suspect that the Devs aren't even going to poke at this one with a 10 foot pole.
  15. Somewhat related to this, maybe an option where a killed player will immediately reanimate as a nasty kind of zombie that will have an attack with a large change of infecting or even killing the killer, would be an possibility. This would make indiscriminate PK-ing for loot not really a viable playing option. According to some of the relevant lore, the freshly reanimated can be much more dangerous than regular zombies due to the fact that their bodies are still more or less intact.
  16. You can draw water for an extra two times from each faucet once water cuts off. It doesn't matter what size containers you use, so if you stock up on pots and use those to tap the last water, every single house will give you additional weeks (if not months) of drinking water You can even run a farm without much trouble if you keep it compact and let rain do most of the watering. It will run out eventually, yes, but that's really of no realistic concern during a typical play-trough. And even when it runs dry after years in-game, it's perfectly possible to haul new water in from the well. Water barrels are very convenient but far from an absolute must-have, especially not if you don't plan on running a farm.
  17. There's no explicit time limit, but there's a soft limit of ending it when you get to the Sim Farm/Fishing/Trapping/Whatever stage of the game. You know, when you are settled and things start to become repetitive. Also keep in mind this is more of a Role Playing type of game than an endurance match. If this turns out to be a success I reckon another gamer is launched with more specific rules. I would suggest a 7 days IRL limit to return the safe after you pick it up.
  18. IIRC Jatta Pake or Rass should pick it up. It's better to pass it around in a small pool of players than to let it die off.
  19. The alcohol content of most booze is, with around 40% alcohol, too low to be a very effective as an antiseptic. On top of that booze does add a cocktail of other chemicals with a unpredictable effect on germ growth to the wound. It's very well possible that the netto effect is beneficial, but it's a horribly unreliable way to treat a wound. Edit, according to the interwebz alcohol is an outdated way to treat open wounds to begin with, as it also kills healthy tissue. Best to use clean water to get dirt etc. out of the wound and let your immune system do the rest, apparently.
  20. Whisky is a rather shitty disinfectant. And it ads all kinds of contaminants to the wound to boot. It would probably a better idea to go for denatures alcohol/spiritus which would prob. be readily available too. Not particularly ideal either, but far better than booze or wine.
  21. That's true, the mod was (more or less) taylor-made for a serial multiplayer game. This is basically a game where a single-player save is passed on to another person upon death of one's character. The new person continues to play in that world and passes it on upon death of his/her character; and so on and so on. Since people never get to meet in-game, diaries play a fairly important role. It prevents that players have to search for days until they find diary and pen and can get right to writing their diaries. Anyway, you should check out this topic, (and preferably join our merry little experiment) for more information: http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/12113-play-my-legacy-save/ [/shameless advertisement mode] It's of course also useful for other people who love to write in game.
  22. I think such a mod would suit this type of game very well. And it really doesn't add anything but a way to record your experience. Unless I missed something lately of course.....
  23. Open the diary, then pause the game. You can still edit it when it's paused. If you like, you can also write it in Wordpad or something, and copy paste it into the game.
  24. @Ohbal It's a fairly small concept as it is, I second your idea, but I guess the mods want to see how this evolves. Without further ado, I present you my new save. While my play-trough with character Marinus was rather short and uneventful, It was also the first one in which I really found evidence of the struggle of another player. It was lots of fun figuring out what happened and trying to add to its legacy. Marinus did leave a rather extensive diary of 10+ pages behind, and it gives directions to where the game ultimately (and quite unintentionally) concluded. It sort of doesn't spell everything out (hint: assume a certain terrain feature is there) but there be (fairly decent) loot for anyone who manages to find Marinus' mangled body. I would love to hear if someone actually does, btw. Metagame FTW! https://www.dropbox.com/s/2fslvnfn8j7cv77/Legacy%201m-5d-0y.rar?dl=0
