I double and triple checked that all mods are off and verified the game files with the same results of the professions going wonky when i did as i said above with it seeming to be somewhat tied to hitting the random appearance button a few times

Bug: When starting a new character it is possible it starts you without the chosen profession.

    Further Testing:

Seems that this is tied to using the Random button when selecting your character's appearance. Using random during the character appearance screen, consistently removes the character's profession. Not using the random button keeps the profession in place.

JayM reacted to nasKo in Build 39: Vehicles released!
Survivors of the Knox Event can now drive vehicles and explore every nook and cranny of the vast Project Zomboid map.
Vehicles are enhanced with real physics, and come with all the expected sundries such as a UI dashboard, headlights, expanded inventory space, car horns, air conditioning and car radios – and the capacity for breakdowns, part replacement and collision damage.
Mark.exe has been kind enough to record a short video to explain ’em. Please consider going and subbing to his channel if you don’t already!

Nine different vehicle models are available – not including variants on these such as branded vans, or emergency vehicles. The PZ garage runs the gamut from family cars to police sedans, to Spiffo restaurant vans.
Vehicles can be found outside homes and in parking lots – while keys can be found in nearby homes, in the vehicle itself or on the floor. Hotwiring is also a skill option.

Players can replace spare parts, tyres, suspension, brakes and more – all of which can be damaged by situations such as overuse, off-road driving and collisions.
Vehicles must be topped up with gas, have charged batteries and each variety of vehicle has its own set of replacement parts for players to add to their chosen transport.
To accompany vehicles a Mechanic profession and skill have also been added to the game – allowing for increased chances of successful part installation, and trickier repairs.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the massive engine and gameplay changes required for vehicles, game saves from the previous build 38.30 are NOT compatible. If you want to continue your game a Steam beta channel for the previous Build 38.30 has been provided.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE: While we’ve taken a lot of effort to get this build as bug free as possible, due to these huge changes to the PZ engine we can anticipate many bug reports, and also the potential of operational issues on computer set-ups that weren’t part of our IWBUMS beta process. Please report any issues here, and thank you for patience.
    OTHER BUILD FEATURES:
The PZ map has been expanded – filling in the countryside between Riverside and Rosewood with farmsteads, camp sites and various nooks and crannies to explore in your cars, vans and ambulances. The official PZ online map has been updated to reflect this.
A lot of optimization has been done under the hood to make way for vehicles: general map streaming performance, garbage collection improvements, UI framerate changes, rendering of non-visible internal tiles to provide smoother play around tall buildings etc. Many, many other improvements to game systems including: player-crafted double-doors and gates, new sandbox options, map improvements, MP and co-op tweaks, external generators, loot and XP balance, UI improvements, better gamepad controls and much much more. For the full changelist, and information on about a million other fixes and tweaks, please visit the Build 39 release thread.
While vehicles have been a massive group effort from a lot of people within the team, we’d like to give a special thank you to EasyPickins, who did a lot of the technological framework and put a lot of sweat and blood into the system for a long time before everyone else got involved. We’d also like to thank General Arcade, and especially Yuri, for his invaluable help in their integration and evolution.

Imagine having a large size base, it's late game, you have generators and power throughout your base. Wouldn't it be cool to have an alarm system in place so that if someone (player or zombie) were to break down a section of wall or even pass on a trail or road, that an alarm would go off inside your base (volume settings could be turned up or down like any device). Perhaps it buzzes once for section one, twice for section two etc., if there are more than one alarms in place. Of course for this you would need to be a decent level electrician to be able to do it or possibly modify or craft the components needed.

Then I was thinking, why stop there? What about at a further electrician level you could set up motion detection cameras? If they go off you need to view your tv and a smaller screen would come up showing you what's happening or even have it recording on video tapes. You could see if a person was trying to break in (doesn't show the name above their head) or if it was just a group of zeds passing by that broke a part of your wall while you were away or offline.

The game is fully worth every penny all of us paid for it, and it is a good game already, despite still being in early access. Once I had played it past the point where I started this thread, that became clear to me. But I started this thread because I played it for a while, expected I might encounter some other survivors but didn't  (shocking I know, but I don't often read ALL the fine print documentation and the full Internet post history for every title I buy . . .), played it a while longer and still didn't . . . did some searching and pretty soon realized there are no NPC survivors in the game, and it was at that point that I had a reaction: "You gotta be kidding me!?" (grinning [not grimacing] mouth agape in surprise). So I posted, strictly in the interest of providing feedback. I had (and have) no intent of causing anyone any grief, nor engaging in hysterics, merely to convey the reaction of one user upon realizing there were no NPCs. Given I'm an older, fairly low-expectations user with some insights into software development that might be indicative of how a broad range of younger and/or higher-expectations users without much insight into software development might react. In sum, it is a very big "gap" in the game. Game is still worth buying and fun and not in anyway "not worth the sales price."

I think they are being cautious about releasing it.
I can understand why they are waiting to complete vehicles first.
To have two new systems running and bug quashing both could be a long process.
    Its frustrating but understandable.

    A word of warning.
I took a long drive, got out of vehicle with zombies a comfortable distance away and started to walk. Suddenly i got a 2 scratches, no z's near me, i ran a distance and stopped, got 2 more, ran again and then realised i must have lagged out on the server. I quickly logged out.
When i logged back in i manage to get away from the zombies.
I'm probably gonna die from the scratches since i'm nausea's.
Maybe next time i take a long drive, i'm gonna logout while still sitting in the vehicle and then log back in, just to be safe.

Regarding hotwiring (which is working good), i don't have access to the trunk? Is this by design?
Also i'd like to see the ability to force car door locks open with a screwdriver.

Before I would even think about any of that I would rather have these gamebreaking bugs fixed. You know, disappearing loot, glitched textures, the broken mechanic trait and such.
Coming up with "yet another cool thing" to add to their to-do list isn't helpful and derails the purpose of this thread.

Yeah you can swap out batteries for fresh ones, which can be found in other cars and in mechanic shops pretty commonly. I don't believe there is a way to charge them yet.
Hopefully they will be able to work out whatever was causing the server to crash, even with the various minor flaws 'twas a lot of fun playing with vehicles. Hyped for the next patch!

It is always a pleasure to know that the game is receiving constant love and attention and will soon have a feature I have wanted for a very long time, vehicles. I have recently recommended another friend to the game and I can see he is hooked (Possibly addicted?). Keep up the wonderful dates as always. Cheers, Q.G.
