Hi guys! This is my new map: Hashima Island. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1600890711

This map is located in Japan. The Island is also called Battleship Island. You can find more infos here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashima_Island

And you can take a look on the map here:

I might see what you're getting at. For greater distances, telling someone which corner of their screen to follow is not a fine enough reference (basically between corners and sides you have a 45°) and they'll need frequent course correcting. With a compass item overlaying finer degrees (perhaps 15°), you could better direct players over larger distances.

I support this. I know exactly what you mean with trying to shephard super casual players.

My workaround has been to host locally and set only one spawn point so we start off together. Alternatively you ask everyone to spawn in one of the smaller towns.

I like that meta navigation is limited in this game because it does force you to get creative and realistic, but there is a gap between realistic and fun in the situation you describe. Compass seems like an alright way to bridge that gap without really compromising anywhere.

    NEW
Simulated weather and climate system - recreating true-to-life weather patterns through 365 days of the year New shaders for times of day and seasonal effects Storms that move over the map Fog and mist that clears during the day Rain and snow now look like they hit the ground. Rain then disappears, and snow fades out. Improved snow and snow effects. New isoRegions system to detect an enclosed area - player-made or dev-created - to keep weather effects on the outside New player character temperature system New Chatbox. Primary features include separate chat streams (safehouse, local, global, etc), customizable chat and more intuitive usage and commands. It's hopefully a lot more convenient now. New system to convert objects placed by mappers so they can be used as functional game objects. This covers items like barricades, campfires, rain barrels, traps, composters, crops etc. New functionalities for the PZ sound system. Formerly modders couldn't override sounds in PZ FMOD soundbanks, so when players find certain sounds are too loud or annoying (heartbeat, zombie alert, flies, level up noise etc) it was hard to raise/lower them independently. Details about all the game sounds now go into media/scripts/sounds.txt. A new in-game UI allows users change the volume of any sound they feel is too oppressive. Winter is Coming game mode now works with new climate system. Seasons still impact on this mode - 'Summer' highest temperature is 0 degrees centigrade, and winters may drop to -30. After 3 full days a powerful weather period is generated, that will always feature a blizzard. New MP Admin UI added: an Items list viewer in the admin panel. It can be used to quickly search through, and spawn, items. New C++ version of ZombiePopulationManager. This system is what governs the placement and movement of zombies when they’re not directly on your screen, and this updated version should be an optimization for SP and MP – hopefully helping out lower spec machines and busy servers. Reflective windows on vehicles Skybox generation for vehicle reflective windows. This takes into account: the time of day, the Global illumination color, fog, cloudiness, precipitation intensity, wind direction, wind speed and the temperature of the ambient air (as in winter the clouds are lower than the ground) Added 'sway' wind sprite effects for trees and vegetation that increases/decreases with wind speeds(default on, can be toggled off in options)  Added 'shake' sprite effects for hits on doors, chops on trees and zeds/players walking through vegetation. Added new Spiffo survival guide entries about weather. Added new clothes: Long shorts, Jacket, Padded Pants, Padded Jacket Thunder sound now plays to all players when an admin bans a player banned, a thunder rumble is heard when one is kicked. Game now saves the last five console logs in a /logs/ zip so users can easily upload errors even after they've restarted a game Added more checks to online usernames. They now must be three characters long, and not contain any of the following character: ; . ' ? \ Added new server option AllowNonAsciiUsername (default false). This can be set to true to allow the use of non-ascii characters in the username, such as the Cyrillic alphabet etc..) Game now checks username in lowercase when accessing the database. So if your name is BLARG, but you type BLaRG you will still join. Commands can now be temporaly disabled with DisabledCommand annotation. Disabled connections, grantadmin, removeadmin, servermessage and thunder commands. Help also disabled for these commands by annotation Added climate and weather MP admin panels. Many climate values can be now be ticked to override what's happening on the map. Values set by admin will override any values set by climate system, weather and mods. System also shows current weather information, and gives options to stop it. Added BloodSplatLifespanDays server option to remove old blood-splats. Added a 'Revert screen settings' feature after 20 seconds for when newly selected resolution settings are incompatible. Added a way to edit admin powers (invisible, godmod, no clip, unlimited carry, various cheat...) in the MP admin panel. Added in-game Sandbox options editor for server admins - this will allow server admins to change in-game settings that do not require a restart. Updated community translations. Also updated translations with the display names to aid the process. Added a way for outside signs to have light (check room under it if they have electricity). Added lights to neon signs. Added buttons to server-disconnect screen to return to Main Menu or Quit to Desktop. Added separate Shadow extents from vehicle extents to allow for better shadows Updated fonts to bold to aid readability. Added a way to edit Admin powers (invisible, godmode, no clip, unlimited carry etc) in the in-game admin panel Added back the Lowest lighting-quality display option. [Lowest lighting quality now doesn't use the circle-stencil and doesn't draw a second pass of floor shading, so it is a help to low-spec users.] Added Display option to disable the new roof-hiding feature for low-spec users. Shaders now used to draw wall + stencil + lighting in a single pass. Difficult to tell how much FPS boost this results in, but could help. Client now displays the first lua or script file that does not match one on the server to aid user diagnosis of things going wrong with MP Updated menu screen with vertical rather than horizontal options - due to problems with taskbar in latest Windows Updates. Added a UI to display status and error messages when attempting to connect to a server. Vehicle dashboard now displays headlight icon in red if headlights are switched on but aren't working. Added tooltip for Light Fire when Notched Plank is in inventory but not the other item required for lighting a fire. Added Loot All and Transfer All commands to the inventory context menu when using a controller.
    BALANCE

Added being able to rest/sleep on picnic table (considered as a bad bed.) Added missing Raspberry Shortbread, CookieChocolateChip" & Candycane items to the loot table. Added a way to dismantle car wrecks (burnt car) with a propane torch & a welding mask. Gathered metal material will depend on your metalwork skill. Added missing nutrition values to medicinal herbs and condiments. Added "Very Low" choice to CarSpawnRate Sandbox option. Increased VOIP range  (fade and falloff) Bowls of soup now affect thirst. Wood barricades require two nails. Previously in SP 2 nails would be used, while in MP only 1 would be used. Changed in-vehicle visibility cone for when player drives through weather effects. Cone now extends based on darkness value. Player can now sleep in a car that has its engine running. Added Packaged=TRUE to Remoulade so nutrition info is visible. Renamed Disinfect Bandage recipes to Dinsinfect Rag for Ripped Sheets. Increased the distance zombies spawn in newly-seen rooms when the player is in the same building. This is to fix zombies spawning right in front of (or sometimes around) the player in the large open rooms in the Mall. Renamed Metal Tube into Metal Pipe. Removed Pipe (plastic one) from recipes/dropping table, and now use Metal Pipe instead. Improved the appearance of crafting tooltips. Frozen food no longer allowed as the primary ingredient in evolved recipes. Can no longer use rotten bread slices when cooking level is less than 7. Added several missing vehicles zones (McCoy, Fossoil) & improved gas station vehicles spawning. Car-battery charger is now placed on the ground and interacted with using a context menu. Transferring water from an object to an inventory item now requires equipping that item. The amount of water to transfer is calculated in start() instead of when the action is queued.  Repair Engine and Take Engine Parts now show progress bars and flash Success/Failure. Drunk moodle now has an impact on driver steering input Updated map to improve zombie density in some farmland and rural areas.  Changed First Week in One Week Later and adjusted settings to make sure that new players aren't given too easy a ride. You can now improve wooden door frames as you would walls. (This won't work on previously built frames though). Players can now be harmed when hit by a car. DamageToPlayerFromHitByACar sandbox option added Added chevrons on character screen next to the weight to indicate if weight is increasing or decreasing. All vehicle doors may be locked/unlocked from inside without requiring a key. Single tile doors can now be blocked from opening/closing by obstacles - as it is with double doors. Piped items (sinks, toilets, baths..) now require a wrench to be moved. A moveable item requiring no skill now have a 25% chance of breaking instead of 75%. After placing a water piped item you now need to plumb it back before being able to use it (require a wrench & a building or fully enclosed player built house). Weather now impacts on chances of starting the car (specially on low quality engine, the colder, the harder is to start).
    MODDING

LoadVehicleModel lua function and re-calc spawn chance added to aid players who want to mod in new/individual cars. Mapper-placed generators are now functional objects when first loaded. Changed spawnchance for vehicle type definition from an Int to a Float. Added mod options for climatemanager

DedpaUrvor reacted to MadDan in (Change it back!) Why was Erosion toned down so much?
Reading on old Mondoids, I found these screenshots of Erosion and thought it looked so cool compared to what we currently have.
    For example:

Going into the current IWBUMS and setting time to 1 day for 100% growth didn't result in nearly as much overgrowth as these shots. Only grass was being affected and tiny cracks in the roads with the start of trees growing but no more.

Why would this ever be toned down unless it was seriously affecting performance? It's so cool and would show how much civilization has really dwindled.
Is there a way I can activate it elsewhere in the game's code?
Or, can it please be added back as a Sandbox option or in Survival?

That is what I envisioned for Erosion,
and while this is still great and adds a lot to the game:

The original screenshots are so much better in my opinion and I'd love if that were the reality of Erosion.

DedpaUrvor reacted to Burger_Time in Some vehicle suggestions.
    Hey all!

Today I'm gonna break my fingers and write suggestions about vehicles.

    But before we start:

DISCLAIMER: some of ideas may already be suggested before or already planned by developers (pls don't beat me).

First of all — separated engine parts.

We shouldn't be able to repair engine by disassembling another engine for unknown parts and randomly put them in our engine. Engine is the most important part in the car, and if it's damaged, you can't just repair it.
If you have a damaged part, your overall engine condition will fall and it will break eventually. Here's an example of some parts: oil filter, carburetor, engine pistons.
Along with previous suggestion I think that it would be great to add motor oil and antifreeze.

Next suggestion is to divide car parts to more groups such as Sedan, jeep, micro bus, truck e.t.c . I.e: front door type standart, group hatchback. It will make sense because you can't actually remove trunk lid of sedan and attach it to jeep.

Third suggestion is... Different transmissions and ability to change gears.

I've already done this suggestion before, but I want it to be here also.
Everything is pretty simple: if your car have manual transmission and you want to drive faster, you need to change gear to a higher one. If your car have automatic transmission, you don't need to do it. However, if you want to park your car/go backwards, you need to change gear to "reverse"/parked/neutral at both situations.

Fourth suggestion — add more fuel types.
Won't write a poem here, so let's just say that cars like trucks should use diesel, standart cars like sedans should use, let's say, 95 e.t.c.

Next one — a bit different car inspection.
Character should walk around the car, inspect all the parts and then he can know their condition. However, a low leveled mechanics can know only approximate condition of a part. A person with a 0 level of mechanic skill shouldn't even know part's condition beside parts which condition you can see clearly (like doors, hoods, trunk lids).

Sixth suggestion — more details on cars.

Some details that isn't very noticeable, but will look pretty neat. I.e: smoke coming out of exhaust pipe, ability to turn on turn signals/emergency signals, wipers that increase your field of view while it's raining e.t.c.

Even more suggestions! More ways to dump our car.

Currently, we can't eff up our car that badly so it won't start anymore, so cars seem invincible.
Here's some ways to dump car I want to have :
If you aren't good at drifting, your car should do a barrel roll while skidding; crashing at high speed must destroy your wheels, front and some engine parts; if you good at mechanics, you should be able to break someone's brakes which can lead to funny situations; drifting should severely damage your tires.

    The list may be continued!

    Small suggestions list:
You should not be able to try start car if the last attemp wasn't successful and there's still a sound playing.
Zombies should be able to pull you out of the vehicle and get In vehicle through the windows.
Players' bodies shouldn't fall out the car — they should stay in a car.

That's all for today. I hope you liked it.

    Пока!

DedpaUrvor reacted to Kaleidozombie in Color Coding Food
I was thinking that besides labeling food as (Fresh) or (Rotten) you could color code them, adding a colored dot before, after, or even on the icon somewhere. Green would be for fresh items, yellow for normal/stale items, red for rotten items, and blue for non-perishable items. Not needed as much, but you could add a grey dot for other items indicating that they're not items you need to worry about their freshness levels, and perhaps to keep the UI uniform overall. It would also be nice if there was some visual indicator to tell you how much is left of a particular food item, especially for when choosing which items to select for cooking.

Edit: I was thinking the other night and thought that maybe blue would be used for frozen foods and another color could be used for non-perishables. What color do you think would fit best? Maybe purple, grey, or white would work? Or white for all non-food items and grey for the non-perishables? Perhaps white for all items that are non-consumable and grey for consumables that are non-perishables, including food, but also items like painkillers, vitamins, matches, etc.

Edit: I was thinking too that clean, dirty and bloody clothes could have markers to denote their status as well. Is there any other items that have multiple states that could be kept track of using these visual cues?

It looks like you're running with quite a few mods. Have you tried with them all turned off?
PumpPower, in particular, is long redundant for example, as the same thing was added to the vanilla game a long time ago.

Disable all your mods, and verify files in steam, and try again.

DedpaUrvor reacted to Vortecus in Change to the pacifist trait?
So, the pacifist trait - is a pretty terrible trait to pick, purely because no one who's actually smart at the game uses firearms due to their inaccuracy and loudness. (You can create unmanageable hordes with a few shots; let alone the thousands of bullets that you have to waste to get a decent aiming skill where you don't miss 4 in 5 shots).

So; it's a terrible trait purely because melee weapons are the preferred weapon of choice and no one wants decreased XP for all melee related skills - not a surprise because of their stealthier approach to combat. And the +4 points that it gives you is purely not enough to persuade a smart person who plays the game to survive to pick the trait. So here's my balancing suggestion...

It's safe to assume that pacifists hate violence, right? So how about we add a very minute amount of unhappiness per zombie killed and a drastic amount of unhappiness for murdering a player (or human NPC). This will amount to at least 20-30 zombies killed in a day to get depressed, or be 1-3 humans murdered. This will add a permanent use to the antidepressant pills that are currently in the game; and will be the new smokers' cigarette. Pacifists will have to regularly take antidepressants to forget about the horrors of the apocalypse.

And due to the increased negative effects of having such a trait; the trait should give you +6 trait points, making the trait actually seem reasonable to use.

DedpaUrvor reacted to Burger_Time in Pills addiction and overdosing.
Currently, you can eat a whole pack of pills without any problems, but IMO it's not realistic as it must be, so I decided to suggest two things — Addiction and Overdosing.

Addiction will appear if you've consumed something like Painkillers or sleeping pills. Depending on what you've consumed, you will have different addiction. I.e — if you was eating sleeping pills for a weeks in order to sleep, your character, eventually, won't be able to sleep without taking any sleeping pill (unless character ridiculously tired). Painkillers addiction will have different effect. If you addict to painkillers, your character will feel pain and be stressed if not consuming any painkillers.
If you want to heal addiction, you will need toto NOT take the pills for a few weeks. If you become addict after healing again, healing addiction will be harder.

Overdose will appear after taking too much pills in one moment. Overdose will cause drunkenness, a bit stress and (?) Hallucinations (?). Overdose, most likely, willyou lead to addiction. If you have consumed a lot of pills at once (3 packs), character will pass out and die if no one use (?) Adrenalin (?) On him/her (pulp fiction anyone?)

Well, this is all I wanted to say.

DedpaUrvor reacted to nasKo in Build 40 IWBUMS
Hey all, we have just moved Build 40 into the wider IWBUMS public beta – which contains Turbo’s weather and climate system (proper seasons, new shaders, fog, mist, storms that move over the map etc), vehicle improvements and an awful lot of gameplay tweaks, balance and bug fixes.
A brief ‘highlights’ changelist can be found below, while the full changelist can be found here. Please leave feedback in the thread, and bug reports here. Details on how to join the public IWBUMS beta can be found here.
Some quick housekeeping notes on this build:
There *might* be an annoyance with players still getting wet and feeling temperature effects in vehicles, though this will be patched pretty soon if so. Likewise, – the general impact of temperature on players will be balanced over the course of the IWBUMS beta. This version has various aspects of car integration converted into Lua so that modding full cars, not just changing skins, is now a lot more viable for modders. Yuri has written detailed guidelines which RingoD has posted up here, and we’ve also included a new script to help you convert textures into PZ’s required form. A lot of engine work and general vehicle improvements have carried on into this build, but still require substantial testing on servers – not to mention a lot of improvements and fixes we’ve been making to MP Admin in general. Feedback on MP, and especially people connecting to distant servers, would be much appreciated. We will be bringing our own public SpiffoSpace IWBUMS test servers online next week. 40.9 CHANGELIST HIGHLIGHTS
(For full changelist, and to provide feedback, please visit this thread on the forums. There are many, many other fixes and balance improvements.)
Full weather and climate simulation system recreating true-to-life weather patterns through 365 days of the year. Morning fog, thunderstorms created by virtual weather fronts that move over the map, improved rainfall visuals, visible snowfall and improved rendering to better evoke the time of year, and the time of day.  New SFX. New player character temperature system.

New MP Chatbox. Primary features include separate chat streams (safehouse, local, global, etc), customizable chat and more intuitive usage and commands. It’s hopefully a lot more convenient now. New ‘A Storm is Coming’ and ‘The Mist Descends’ scenarios New system to convert objects placed by mappers so they can be used as functional game objects. This covers items like barricades, campfires, rain barrels, traps, composters, crops etc. Winter is Coming game mode now works with new climate system. Seasons still impact on this mode – ‘Summer’ highest temperature is 0 degrees centigrade, and winters may drop to -30. After 3 full days a powerful weather period is generated, that will always feature a blizzard. New MP Admin UI additions including an Items list viewer in the admin panel that can be used to quickly search through, and spawn, items. Also includes the functionality to change in-game settings on the server that don’t require a restart, and clear ways to change admin powers within the UI so hosts can remain admins and play along without advantages. Improved car handling. New driving traits. New car-battery charger item that’s placed on the ground and interacted with using a context menu. Drunk moodle now has an impact on driver steering input. Players can now be harmed when hit by a car. Car wrecks can now be dismantled with propane torch and a welding mask. Gathered metal material will depend on your metalwork skill. Many UI changes to handle different font sizes. Added context-menu font-size option. Re-exported the map to improve zombie density in some farmland and rural areas. Changed First Week and One Week Later and adjusted settings to make sure that new players aren’t given too easy a ride. Removed Initial Infection. Added Display option to disable the new roof-hiding feature for low-spec users. Updated menu screen with vertical rather than horizontal options – due to problems with taskbar in latest Windows Updates. Added chevrons on character screen next to the weight to indicate if weight is increasing or decreasing. New isoRegions system to detect an enclosed area – player-made or dev-created – to keep weather effects on the outside. New functionalities for the PZ sound system. Formerly modders couldn’t override sounds in PZ FMOD soundbanks, so when players find certain sounds are too loud or annoying (heartbeat, zombie alert, flies, level up noise etc) it was hard to raise/lower them independently. Details about all the game sounds now go into media/scripts/sounds.txt. A new in-game UI allows users change the volume of any sound they feel is too oppressive. Again, fuller examination of what’s in the changelist in terms of balance and fixes in this thread on the forums.

DedpaUrvor reacted to Dwight in Zombie spawn in the Mall
I already posted about this bug on the Steam forum, and Enigma Grey was very kind to answer my topic, but it seems he hasn't really found a solution for this bug:
    https://steamcommunity.com/app/108600/discussions/0/1761356057411417034/

If you don't wanna click on the link for some reason, here is a resume:

" I decided to go and check out the Mall, I got there and killed a lot of zeds without too much difficulty, then I decided to explore what exactly is in the Mall.

Problem is, the zombies in the Mall do not spawn correctly. 2 times I walked into an empty room, walked for a few seconds, then dozens of zeds appeared in the room all around me, the second time was fatal for my character who had survived more than a month...

This bug makes it impossible to check out this place, and it didn't happen because of my computer, I have very good fps all the time, my computer already had hundreds of zeds on screen without any difficulty in the past, so I don't know what causes this, but I don't think it's on my side. "

Another guy declared he encountered the same problem, we both have very good specs, and when Enigma Grey tried to reproduce the bug, he kinda managed to do it, but he didn't give any real clue on how to fix this, and said he would test this furthermore but didn't answer again and it's been nearly a month (not blaming you, I know you've got a lot of stuff to do).

    In conclusion:

This bug makes getting into big places such as the Mall nearly impossible because zeds have the potential to spawn on top of you, I didn't read anything about this in the latest updates and it's a pretty annoying bug, forcing me not to go to some places on the map even though I am very well prepared.

I'd be glad to know if someone knew what caused this, and if someone was working on it.

DedpaUrvor reacted to Icy Motto in Opening cutscene/scenario when starting in "How it began" setting.
I recently saw a very good post on the PZ steam community hub that someone did, the user "ArtyomRex01" shared the image I've attached and would like to share for you guys to see. He gave me permission of course.

I would like to know what your thoughts are for something like this to be implemented into the game once it releases. Though frankly, I remember the devs saying they might not do something like this. But then again, why are they putting hints in the game to how the outbreak happened? (Radio stations talking about this, TV news broadcasts etc...) It would be very cool for this to be in the game in my opinion and would only make sense as a visual to the broadcasts and talks about it.

EDIT: I might have not been clear enough, I want something like this only as an opening cutscene when starting up a new game in "The First Week/Initial Infection" NOT a scenerio to play as, since devs confirmed there will not be any "before" outbreak stuff to play with. Just kind of like a short cinematic that shows chaos right before the phrases that go with the black screen "This is How You Died" .

Also, thanks to the author for letting me post this as his artwork here is very good.

DedpaUrvor reacted to Faalagorn in Food that should rot, but currently don't
I really like that there are totally not perishable food that are in Zomboid, as despite pretty much everything having a shelf time label IRL, some things can pretty much survive indefinitely, only slightly losing their taste and visual appeal and maybe some nutrients at most (Twinkies), and I also like that foods doesn't disappear when rotten, still having option to eat it in a pinch with all consequences, use it as a fertilizer to produce more food or as a pest-deterrent (milk), and use it to train cooking, when master chef (lol) can even add part of it to a healthy dish, even if it sometimes can be unrealistic for meat that's been spoiled for ages .

With all that in mind, however, I'm always surprised that there's a few items that don't spoil while they clearly shouldn't. Let me list it here:
    Butter
the most obvious one, which even spawns in fridges, yet with the current mechanic you don't even have to bother keeping it refrigerated as it never spoils. Gameplay-wise you do lose an option to make pie dough when all butter spoils sadly, but you can't make a cake batter without a milk anyway, and flour can still be used to make bread dough. Eventually, I'd love to see options to get your own butter and milk (there are mods for that, including the addition of UHT milk though it was oddly unpopular in USA at 1990s and powdered milk by Hydrocraft). And I assume that might come if animals gets introduced (just have your own cow, sheep or goat and voila, milk!) – until then we should deal with it spoiling in vanilla game for realism/consistency sake and maybe add powdered alternatives to make different cakes/pies/etc. without butter?. Cake Batter, Cake Preparation, Pie Batter, Pie Preparation
while technically a nice way to preserve it before all milk expires in case of cake, I think it should rot in a similar fashion if not quicker than the resulting products. In the meantime until animals gets added, I would welcome alternative ingredients to make it without perishables too (see above ) Melted Ice Cream
it's nice that ice cream melts when unfrozen, but it should spoil pretty quickly in a melted state too, being a dairy product that attracts germs (unless it's a water ice cream, then I guess it's possible?) Marinara, Mustard and Ketchup
while those have a long shelf time, Mayonnaise and Remoulade currently expire, so it'd be natural if those would too. Originally I also considered yeast, but since it's drainable item (similar to Flour, Sugar (which causes issues as evolved recipe ingredient) and Vinegar but I'd love it to change since they are food by themselves after all, as well as Antidepressants, Beta Blockers, Painkillers, Sleeping Tablets and Vitamins – certainly not less than Bleach, Cigarettes, Antibiotics or medical plants) and it's a way to make bread when everything expires and normal yeast spoils quite quickly, we can pretend it's dried yeast, unless you want to implement baking powder as well, which would be welcome addition ).

I and i'm sure the other countless masses have noticed how restaurants in project zomboid are missing important facilities...
    like DEEP FRIERS.

and DISH WASHERS... But i didn't draw any art for that yet...

And garages and stuff would be better if there was a larger variance of containers that arent wooden crates, card board boxes, shelves, cabients.

...I don't know some stuff like that.
    just sayin'.

I mean, they could just add a numerical value field in the character selection process for a character's age and not attach any features to it in the immediate future, at least until, or if, they're ever ready to. I don't see how that would be difficult to make happen, but I imagine it's simply not a priority. Still, it's bothered me for a long time also, so I tend to ignore it all together.

DedpaUrvor reacted to bpdlr in Turn the invisible berry bush bug into a feature
I was thinking, if the devs work out what is making the berry bushes invisible, maybe they could tie that code into the Foraging skill system, so that at different levels of Foraging, different plants become visible, like berry bushes at low level and herb plants at high level. This way, the player might just "bump into" a bush they can't yet find on their own (just as you might find some berries while out hiking despite not being Bear Gryls).

This way, Foraging could become an active skill rather than the current clunky menu and progress bar affair. There are already plant textures in the game that could be re-used for the various herbs and berries, you could just add a bit more colour to them to make them more easily distinguished from the other flora. For worms, you could add a small mud patch, and for frogs maybe a stone that makes a "ribbit" sound as you get close (using the same text system for sounds as the radio and TV). As for the bugs, maybe a patch of grass with little dots jumping about for grasshoppers, a small pile of twigs or logs for cockroaches, and a patch of grass making a loud chirping sound for crickets.
