    1. You can hear cars for miles in reality. Ever been out to the country on a quiet night, or walk a hiking trail 6-7 km from a road way? You hear them. They're quite loud.

Your test just seems to indicate you don't know how to use a gun to distract zombies to loot . . . If the same logic is being applied to cars, I can see why you're having problems. I'll try and make a video for you later, using vehicles, if you want. Last one got eaten by that crash on quit.

    2.  Either TIS needs to fix performance if they want this level of attraction, or they need to turn it down. The current build isn't indicative of performance.  You have the option of sandbox and turning down zombie hearing .etc if your computer can't keep up; that's not going away.

    3. Attracting zombies via guns is the point. They're partially an idiot trap, as explained.

The issue of luring zombies out of a city is going to happen at all sound levels, aside from silence. You're the only game in town.

You guys make me want to advocate for quite the opposite of decreasing sound radius of vehicles or guns when throwing around the world 'useless" for this stuff.

Aside from the performance dip, you have a much faster method of travel that protects you from the undead and allows you to carry 10-20x the amount of loot a backpack does. You have to earn that through figuring out ways to make the game's mechanics work for you and solve the challenge presented.

Vehicles are pretty damn simple to figure out in anything other than Six Months Later.

Cars can also act as barriers for zombies.

Much better than log walls, ignoring the dropping from the sky on re-load.

Funny enough that is the same reason i stopped coming to the forums and hide even the game from steam for a while now (after trying it to play it just felt really unstable with the NPC mod and vehicles mod), it really feels like a cycle of features looming over the horizon that never come, the animations and vehicles were first showcased at the same month. i think around Feb 2016 they were first showcased and vehicles in Feb 2017 too, it amazing how they both seem very familiar.

Both show incredible progress towards release, everything seems to be in order and then nothing, i was so sure that at the mid-end of summer 2016 we would have the animations because all the mondoids pointed towards a release and then some features here and there were added like the gore and modding tools and complications all around, i wouldn't make such a fuzz about this if the animations were feature completed (sneak, cover) but they wont be, they are just a shadow in each mondoid (that after reading 4 mondoids in a row, they were kinda similar, but still in dev-time sometimes nothing spectacular happens).

I wouldnt even bet my money at the end of the summer, if we are lucky we will see them by November or December plus all the IWBUMS time needed to be ready for public, very early 2018.

I will check progress by the end of the summer to see if we got some light into the animations or not, but i doubt we will even see a release of them by summer.

Alright this is a first time for me.

I wont bug you asking for a bit more depth explanation on whats going on with the animations anymore, but seriously, a warning?

I didn't expect that from the moderators of this community, but oh well, things happen.

See you folks in a couple of months.

Maybe vehicles can work as cupboards? We already saw the animation of a zombie going though a window, crawling a bit in the board and falling into the floor, so that could work.

Also for the love of god give us something a bit more indepth about the animations, what does "animation work" even mean by now, we already saw the exporting/importing animations for like 2 months and nothing came out of it, we saw the LUA change replacing the old system with the new system, the replacement of the "bit", "scratch" old system and the smoothing of transition while player rotates.

Why not explain what is going to happen first? The animations or vehicle (no ETA) because they cannot co-exist, they must merge sooner or later and all the testing that goes into the vehicles is going to be null when the animations kicks in (in my opinion), are they begin merged together? is that the animation work we hear about?

I cant get hyped about vehicles because of this reason, i just see this feature as Animations 2.0 because this is exactly how the animation hype started out.

I do wonder if we are going to be able to make models in blender and export them to PZ.

I do recall something like that but i dont remember well what it was, but i am sure someone will mod that feature in. Be able to tell what weapon a character is carrying and what he can shot your ass with is important (NPCs and Players alike, even Rust added that to the game now)

I get your point, yet again, we are in Early Acess, the animations wont be feature completed (lack of stealth), it will probably going to run a IWBUMS for 1 to 3 months (aka no new feature creep probably for that amount of time) and the IWBUMS will be part of the SP branch, not the MP branch.

Your point would stand only if the animations came bug free, no IWBUMS and with both SP/MP, believe me, the animations are going to be very patch heavy.

Good point, i dont really see the point of this thread, the hype has been reignited around 8 times or more thought the space of 1 year and 2 months by now, the devs knows that the community wants the animations and they are waiting like hungry wolves to jump at them (either the animations or the devs).

What i am seeing right now is a pattern, we are having a radio silence about the animations but vehicles show up, around the same time the animations showed up for the first time back in 2016, the same time that creative mode went completely silent other than "we are working on it", the whole vehicle features are giving me a deja vu of the animations right now.

Hyping something up can only lead to disappointment by this point, i would say that this thread should be left alone, there is nothing left to discus about the animations that havent been discussed in 2016 and it only opens up fresh wounds, reminds me of the anticipation threads of people taking bets on what month the animations were going to go out.

I just really expect and hope that the animations are going to be out at earliest between July and September and the vehicles between November or December.

That would be great, but how do you manage happiness?
Having great food, entertained (reading books, magazines and newspapers can get you so far) and what else?

We dont have VHS yet to watch movies, neither hot water to simulate a bath to rise up morale and neither music players to listen to music and raise it up (or NPCs to talk with and not feel so lonely)

Maybe adding happiness elements to hobbies could work? Like if you take the gardening hobby you could get a small amount of happiness while farming or taking care of your plants, baseball player could take a bat and a baseball and just shot the damn thing in his rooftop small things to make you happy.

I recall the last time i was depressed in a character (long time ago now jesus), i ate like fucking 20 lolipops or something along those lines and suddenly i was better, i just imagine my character dropping the depression like a mic while walking out with diabetes type 2.

It WOULD be great to see more positive moodles for fulfilled needs other than hunger.

Right now the moodles seem to focus on telling us what the character needs. I'd rather see a push to be aware of their needs AND satisfactions (like in The Sims), if only to know that they are a "person" and not a needy whiner who is never satisfied

If the devs don't  want there to be lots of fuel in the gas stations. Then they could find a way of writing it into the lore. Things like people panic buying fuel and limited supplies. This way the gas stations could only have a bit of fuel left or non at all.

Unless you are going full speed into a very flismy brick wall and you have a very durable car, most of the cases the car would get rekt before going though a brick wall (but i hope we can go though fences)

But it is possible to go though a brick wall with a car, however you probably wont be able to tell that story because you are going to be dead.

I really wasnt expecting the car on car collision, it looked quite nice too, which makes me think, is it physics based or just animation.

    Speaking off...

How is the animations and car branches going to work though?
I expected to see the animations in the vehicles video, but it seems its using the old framework, which means that they are not merged.

So is that going to be an extra load to add into the animation update?

You are forgetting the fact that we are driving though zombies, those motherfuckers who can rip a log wall apart after some time.

I guess you are not up to date of what the animation system is all about.

I can give a damn about clothing/gore features by this point, but the animation system is a overhaul of ALL the gameplay mechanics of the game, its the one thing that is holding up the progress of NPCs, hunting animals, improved stealth, looking around corners and all of the features to the road towards 1.0.

When the NPCs are in, they will be animated so you can see what they are doing, same goes to hunting (stealth and running, getting attacked by X animal), the ability to easily add more animations/weapons/items and see backpacks on players back is a huge thing that is needed.

Also i dont understand how they got vehicles working without the animations in place, because i think that IF they got the vehicles first into the game before the animations, well i guess that means a truckload more of work to make them function with the animations again.

But overall this is what makes the wait for the animations such a frustrating thing for me that i havent touched the game in a long time, just seeing the animations as a massive gateway into 1.0 is frustrating because the expectation of the community of probably seeing the game leave early access by the end of the year was high, now i doubt we might see the implementation of NPCs until next year.

I totally get what you are saying, when PZ was given to me (because at the time i didnt manage to get to pay for the game, there was no Steam to buy the game, instead it was this weird page, keep in mind, this was around December 2011, when the Steam update hit i bought it there) the whole concept of the game was brilliant, there was no game like this in the market and early access was not even a thing, the tech demo was something that hook me up so much for at least more than 15 hours just trying to survive in that small map.

At that time the concept of early access was not existent, Minecraft was the big thing that did it right at the time and the devs follow the lead on how to approach their game.

As i read what i wrote above me i realize that i am going headed into a rant of why i love Project zomboid, but instead of that i will get to the point, i love this game as it is, i gifted this game several times to different friends and hardcore sold the game concept to other people so they would buy it (as the game stood), but recently defending this game became harder because the whole animations thing blueballed a lot of people, including me and i am sure the community agrees as a whole that we felt the animations so close that we were expecting it back in October, but shit happens and they got delayed.

Project Zomboid, Rimworld, The Long Dark and Neo Scavenger are the only early access games that i have supported from beginning to end, not because of the promise of what its going to be, but because the game itself in the state i found them were good, however i have notice that when there is one big feature in the horizon, i stop playing the game because i felt i really want to experience that feature before getting burned out with the game, as you can tell, that is a very personal issue and not one that the community shares.

I dont blame the devs for the time they take with updates, i know they are always working in the full spectrum of what they accomplish and i respect them because even when shit hits the fan, they keep pushing forward to get their game finished. I know that the animations will eventually arrive, but god damn its has been a long time since 2011.

    Also funny thing:

You took words out of my mouth, seriously.
When this game came out in 2011, i was just starting college, its 2017 now and the years are starting to show me how much shit you must endure once you reach this age, with thesis, work and other work/school related stuff going on, i can barley play and its a very scary feeling to think that maybe next year i wont be able to fully enjoy the game because of insecurity reasons (like seriously there has been around 6 deaths around of where i use to go to college, 6 deaths per week in that area alone), work, economical reason (this country is going to hit the shit in the fan next year, the shit has been stuck there for a long time) or health reasons, i just want to see the game finished because of that reason, i know it sounds absurd, but pouring 5 years into following a single game and checking each monday morning for at least 4-3 years actually becomes somewhat part of you life, its just a funny thought.

I've been hoping this is the case for such a long time. I personally hope hitting a few or a couple zombies knocks your car out of commission just like it would in real life. I think we all agree that the detail put into Project Zomboid is what makes it great and that the more realistic the detail the better. I can only hope vehicles follow the same suit.

Also, I love every time something adds to the list of "this is how you died" lol

Edit: I also just got my car hit in a parking lot, and while the damage wasn't insanely bad, it was certainly enough to stop me from driving safely with it. It's amazing how fragile cars actually are.
