Well right now farming is like a way to never starve since you wont need to go outside to get dem chips and chocolate bars, so you pretty much remove a big element of the game to loot for food, once you get the farming tools, i am sure you have food to survive till the corps are ready to harvest, like a week or so.

Pretty much removing the danger of going outside for food.

I agree with Rathlord and I'd like to see it take longer or even realistic periods of time. Preservation should indeed be possible realistically (Salting, smoking, drying etc. etc.) but the time it takes is the key factor you see, because let's take for example Banished, I'm sure lots of you are familiar. It has a simple premise to not die from starvation, and preservation is not a factor (as food does not rot like in PZ) so essentially you have an easier set of circumstances than PZ. However and this is vital, the time it takes for food to be produced is large enough that it starts becoming harder and harder to anticipate just when you do have food and when not. Resulting in a very difficult game in terms of things going south. Now apply this to pz...

Then what will happen is looting and whatever means of preservation and hunting etc. etc. will make up for your food when you have nothing to harvest or eat, possibly for weeks or months. This is where the gameplay gets boosted, for the simple reason that you MUST find food whilst your plants grow. You must loot, you must hunt, you must rob or steal or do something. And this forces the player to move away from safe territory and into unexplored territory. This is what we need to combat the ease of building a castle-like keep. This will (IMO) make the game more entertaining because it breaks monotony, it combats turtling, it exposes the player to hazards.

It is a change I very firmly agree with. Simply changing plant growth time to a realistic timeframe (or even just sufficiently extended.)
One change and I am willing to bet on it making most if not all of my predictions above true to some degree.

Now this does not yet touch on zombie difficulty and that is a good thing, because this level of difficulty in *management* and *thinking* is the same kind of problem a group would face, player or npc. Because take just one moment to imagine the game with the crops growing at the speed they now do... Except you have a castle AND a NPC tending to the crops... Seeing what I am worried about? Unending food and essentially your own ingenuity and success have rendered the game mundane and boring.

I sincerely hope that at the very least it is considered or if there is some variable to adjust the global food crop growth rate, that it is exposed at the very least in sandbox settings.

I dont want a game where i will survive against all odds in the apocalypse god dang it, i want a game where i died because i was stupid or because some shit hit the fan and i lose my character or base, i want a game that makes me feel that there is no way to win, just keep going until i die, i want to die in this game, i dont want to win.

I want to find death around every corner, i want raiders trying to rob me, and all the nosie they made make hordes of zombies come to my base and i want to die inside my base, i dont want a game where somehow i beat 5 raiders by my own and then took on a horde of zombies while blasting music.

I want to fear having a zombie see me insde my base, i want to fear having to fight a zombie cause he might grab me and tackle me to the ground to gore the guts of  my level 10 chracter that i took hours to shape up.

I dont want to win in this game, i dont want a happy ending, i want to cry at a game over screen as i see my dead character reanimate and start muching on my sleeping NPC friend who survived with me long enought to see the streets cover in dead bodies and grass.

Since the map is so big how are you going to bring the old nightmare of hordes back?
I mean, in the old prealpha, once you had a zombie on you knocking the door, it was pretty much gameover cause all the zombies would gather around the building and rekt you in your sleep, if you see a zombie knocking the door in the current build, you run pass by it to your safehouse and say hi to him.

Also how is the difficulty going to scale up? By the first week i have stuff to survive the first month just by looting houses, are we finally going to pass out if we dont sleep? what is refrigeration going to do now? also the endurance stuff, is it going to be like some kind of State of Decay stuff? Like getting tierd in the long run and losing energy over time? I would love that, to have a day to rest (i dont want to change chracters tho, just have a day to rest)

This is what i mostly mean, the zombies become an annoyance more than a threat that killed the whole country, while we can just keep farming away corn in our gardes while we say hi to undead john and martha living in the next house since 4 weeks in.

As for the "offensive talk down", i apologize but i didnt mean it to talk you down (also english is not my first language), people actually have a different play style in this game, a friend likes to loot a house and the rest of the day just inventory manage his entire base for some reason, others just dont loot at all but the very basic tools and then just farm.
Also i am not saying i am a master at the game, i am sure you have way more hours than me on Steam for sure.

Back at the disscussion part of the game, part of why the older builds and older players find the new builds more easy is because we have SO many new ways to gather food and stuff, also because we have freedom.

I guess most people remember about how there was a limited stock of food in the pre-alpha demo, how when you looted the first 5 houses you started to think "shit now i will have to travel to the store building, where there is always a horde there", so you had to start thinking about a way to lure the northeast horde to the south street, but you needed the hammers and nails in that store, so you had to think how to loot tools and food before it rots away in about a few days.
And if you brought a zombie chasing you, god help you defend your safehouse at night,

Here is how hordes were Sailorwolf

Watching either of those near your safehouse made you shit your pants, i dont remember if with the grey alien zombies you could ran pass them or not, but zombies need a better grip for sure.

Also since the map was like, just a single cell it made you fear that you were really closed insde a city where there was no escape, that is no longer possible in the current game, i hope something along the lines of a quarentine gets added when the NPCs are in so we get a similar feeling like that again.

This is still to be determined. This whole thing was conceived just yesterday, and we're still figuring it all out. But the point is our aim is for PZ's difficulty graph to increase over time, but start off as close to how it is now on day 1 as possible.

But in short, with the introduction of the beginner mode, we are finally unbound by 'make it fun for someone playing for first time' issues that led us to be way too restrained with zombie numbers and refrigerator effectiveness, loot amounts, combat difficulty etc etc. We can be truly brutal motherf**kers again.

Hey all, just a quick post to let you all know we're currently in a midst of a huge shakeup to the game balance. This is primarily to fix the problems in the late game where people get a bit bored. Essentially the problem with the late game is it shouldn't really exist as it does now and it pretty much emerged by accident due to stuff like farming, carpentry and more crucially the pressure on us to make the game more accessible to new players so as not to make a bad and damaging first impression. The genesis of this game was one where it was constantly trying to kill you, and every day used to be a blessing, and it feels like we've lost this to an extent. Now seasoned players reach a point where death comes from reckless shotgun rampages and the like. If the player invites death to try and have a bit of excitement after being bored, then its hard to call this game 'a story about how you died'

Highlights of this balance effort include:
Beginner mode - Yes we're going there. Sandbox has options to make the game easier, but this relies on people going there and most would just drop into survival and then find the game too hard. This pressured us too much to make the game easier to avoid the game crashing into negative review hell, and this isn't fair on the experienced players. A new beginner mode (which the game will try and nudge first time players into) will be easier than the game currently is now, but will otherwise be similar to the current game. But will have NO survival time reported on death (though will still on the character panel). This is an awesome thing for everyone who is experienced in the game because it means we are finally free to really make survival as brutal as it should be from day one to day whatever you survive to... every day should be a struggle, especially if you're on your own Zombies assemble! - We're going to be working at bringing back the hordes of the days of yore. Like the proper hordes we used to have. This is all dependent on how much multiplayer traffic can handle but we're working at making more dynamic and numerous hordes. Difficulty scales up over time instead of down. Through various balance changes, instead of the difficulty falling off as you get more supplies and clear out an area for a safehouse, the game will become more and more difficult as time goes on. Living a month or two will now be a bloody huge deal. The late game once you have a base and farming and the like will no longer get dull, because our aim is to make every night you rest your head on a pillow alive and not undead a blessing the player is thankful for and a triumph they will be proud of. Things like food, refrigeration, zombies, migration, and a whole host of other things will be severely rebalanced. Instead of having a fridge full of about three months of food, you're more likely to be looking for something to fill your belly. Likewise changes to stuff like endurance will make the effects of fatigue much more long term instead of a momentary blip. Gameplay systems, primarily stuff like carpentry, will be available to players more quickly. Hammers, saws and the like much more in abundance. But for example in case of carpentry, only barricading and the like will be available at low level. No building walls, doors etc at level 0 and so on. This means barricading will be a huge part of the game from near the start, where carpentry and base building itself will remain a mid-late game accomplishment. This same methodology will be brough to other gameplay systems to preserve the late game but provide earlier use of them. There's plenty of other stuff, and this will be an ongoing effort going forward. Our plan is to perfectly balance the game to provide challenge to experienced players from beginning to end, and to squeeze the survival times to make long survival a real proud achievement, and the beginner mode means we can provide a bit more hand holding to first time players so they can figure out the mechanics without being chewed to death within the first minute of gameplay.

I dont think they will add splints yet, they need animations and more stuff like that.

And maybe we will see damage in a certain area of the body actually doing something, like if your arm gets hurt, you cant swing as hard and fast as usal, head damage can cause some vision/hearing problems, leg make you move slower, ect.

I hope for corpses and the rain actually making you sick.

But the one that will make me fall in love with whoever codes it.....FOOD NOT HEALING YOU, GOD I DONT WANT MAGIC FOOD, I HATE MAGIC FOOD, HOW BUTTER HEAL MY ARM?!
    BUTTER BEST FOOD

Also maybe some new wound types?
You know, like blunt damage, slash damage, damage damage...

    No more free pan-axe.

Now i kinda can see people making PZ some kind of Rust, i think most people will go for the stone axe and hammers insted of looting for stuff, waiting to see how that plays out.

Also i think the scavaging skill should be timed action too, only working on forests, i mean when you are looking for stuff in a place with a lot of grass, you take some time to find it, so if your character would randomy move a bit when serching it could be good.

Also can someone please say if we are going to find poisonous mushrooms and plants or just ediable stuff?
