  1. I've a feeling I might be laughed out the room for this but hey, I'm going to suggest it anyway. I like the idea of using an old/current phone as a dedicated 'pc' to host the server as opposed to running it from my PC. I don't need to be an expert to appreciate how little work the server does and how easily my phone could host. Hell, my phone spec is better than 90% of the PCs I've had previously: FEATURES OS Android OS, v4.2 (Jelly Bean), upgradable to v4.4.2 (KitKat) Chipset Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon CPU Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait GPU Adreno 320 Also, I think it might have been this absurdly versatile app that got to thinking that the phone might be used in this way. 2. Yeah storage bins are to make a return. http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/192-commonly-suggested-suggestions-read-before-posting/
  3. This is another Reddit inspired idea. It seems to me that it'd be much less laborious to create a rudimentary work bench (or even use a table rather than cut the wood whilst it's in your inventory. http://www.reddit.com/r/projectzomboid/comments/269e02/planks_planks_and_forts/ It'd also be nice if you could just pick it up and carry it next to the work bench and drop it in it's vicinity. If balancing is an issue then you might make the work bench a little more difficult to construct.
  4. Oh.. Thanks for the info
  5. I've finally managed to host/allow others to join. Quick question is. It's late and I should wait until morning. How do I accelerate time (since I can't sleep)
  6. Foreword I appreciate this might take no small amount of work. That said, this doesn't mean I don't think it's a good idea or that it might save the IS guys a lot of work in the long run. Also, I'm aware that you can - to an extent - already do this already. I believe it's possible to edit and create your own items. Just not do the rest of what I'm suggesting. The Idea The idea of cloud items is to allow the user to have the tools to create their own items with their own values. Items then created would be uploaded and available as part of a larger database which would be accessible to all. Every once in a while a dev member could check the DB to check the metrics on these items. They could see how widely used they were and how they affect the balance of play. They could then decide which items were to make it into the game proper. The Construct A tool/set of tools would be in place to allow the player to create items that would (initially) exist only within their own game/s. However, with the players permission these items would be uploaded to a central database from which other players can download with suitable warnings. The Reason To increase the diversity of items. You might go into one house and find a bag of dried rice, go next door and find a bag of pasta. The third house may have instant mash. Final Thoughts I think that the more diverse the food selection is, the more realistic it will be. It also means that there is (in the long run) less work for the dev's to do. Also, tastes change. What is a common food now might not be in 2 years time and I don't see PZ going anywhere. Well, it better not.
  7. He's a bell end, basically I remember when he couldn't form basic sentences. Yesterday, I think it was. Yes that's right
  8. Yeah which is why I said And Thanks for reading. Or not, as the case may be.
  9. Hah. Red Dwarf. Those were good times! Oh I disagree in the strongest terms. Let me put it another way. If you were without any resource do you think you/the average joe could: * Identify the parts by sight? * Assemble them without instruction or reference? * Identify and fix faults without prior training/instruction? I very much doubt it's true for either average joe (he's a proper dick by the way) or yourself. P.S My nephew is also a dick
  10. This was e-mailed to me by my nephew. I like the idea but I don't think it'll work because skills in PZ need to be obtainable by the average joe. Perhaps when electronics comes into play and it gets it's own skill. Perhaps if we have a survivor who already know about this sort of tech before the breakout. However, I think this might be rendered pointless once we have small petrol(gas) powered generators which have already been discussed but he's not aware of because he doesn't read this forum. He also doesn't know about this: http://goo.gl/47tviN I thought I'd post it here.
  11. The Inspiration I've just recently started with TWD season 4 and something just occurred. There are several recurring themes within the TV show but one of them is improvised weapons. I'm not suggesting that a broken lampshade could be used as a weapon (although technically it could) because putting that in game would be pretty difficult for reasons I don't want to go into as I'd be here all day. The Suggestion My suggestion is, why not make broken weapon parts become improvised weapons? Examples A broken baseball bat could splinter and the splintered shaft could be used as a primitive knife. It'd probably only have a few uses but in a tight spot it'd be really useful. The club could break off of a golf club leaving a spike. The Implementation When the weapon breaks a 'dice roll' (old skool here) could be made to determine if the weapon breaks into anything that could be useful. If we assume that the dice roll is positive then the weapon would be determined, placed into the characters inventory. If the character has enough skill in knife they might recognise the weapon and automatically equip it. The player would need to be advised of this in an subtle but clear way so they know what they've just done else it could really screw with a players game. This would give the dev's the license to break weapons more often. I'd like this because it should hopefully cause players to be less cavalier. "I haz killed 4000 zombles, i r 1337!!11!" etc The Drawbacks An improvised weapon might not be used as part of a repair. It'd only be good for 1 or 2 uses, perhaps. Final Note As ever, these are my opinions. I'm just a fan like you so if you don't like my ideas then discuss reasonably why you think so, or don't bother at all.
  12. I thought you were talking about fish stew there.
  13. I think the biggest omission at the moment is fish. Seems silly considering all the hard work put in to make the fishing system. Can't even make myself a delicious fish and carrot stew
  14. Raises an interesting question though. How many NPC's is a good group. Or. Do we want groups or communities. Hell, while I'm talking out my arse how about whole towns of people. It's possible. I'm not suggesting PZ become it. Personally, 2-14 is a good number I pick up off the top of my head. Large enough to allow for social dynamics.
  15. I'm inclined to agree. It would make more sense to balance out this gameplay with risks. Like nodding off while fishing
  16. From the horses mouth, so to speak. Thanks Romain!
  17. That's an excellent point actually. Before refrigeration many things were preserved with salt. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if that's where we picked up the habit of using it as a condiment. I wonder if salt will be introduced and if it might be a commodity.
  18. I've thought about it. That's as far as I've gotten so far Perhaps when I have something better resembling a garden. It's mostly paved at the moment.
  19. It's something I've thought about taking up. Horticultural gardening. In game it was fun to learn how to do it. Not as much fun having to repeat it. This is why I was so pleased after meeting with some of the dev's at the Indie Stone night out. They actually got me quite excited about what they've got planned. I love the idea of bringing an NPC into the group who will take tasks off my hands. NPC's that will flesh out the realism of the game and instead inject a new variable. Social dynamics.
  20. I'd rather it was the other way around. Farming is important to the 'realism' of the game but it's not something I have fun doing.
  21. Yeah. I was hoping that the 'hardcore' players who play more often than me could advise. I don't fancy starting a new game and making my way to the water just to test. I had a look at Bedford Falls just out of curiosity but I don't feel compelled to get into a game fully until NPC's arrive in force.
  22. I was wondering. In the press release by Indie Stone they say that it's possible to deplete a stock of fish from a lake or river. I guess my question is. Can fishing be used to replace farming or will my protagonist starve? I'd like it that one day I could have an NPC farm and/or I and other NPC's could fish. Collectively that would meet most dietary needs. For the time being. The aforementioned question stands.
  23. I'm more than a little surprised to find this hasn't been suggested. The idea It's simple. Those who have been without electricity for some time would also have been without music unless they had some sort of battery powered music player. The ones I've seen, the mobile phones, ipods and the like have a charger and don't allow for batteries to be added and removed. I think that music might not be as common place as some might think. Those that don't have replaceable batteries would require a working electricity socket which will be none-existent after 1-3 months. That is until a generator where acquired. The advantage Hearing music after a prolonged absence would be profound to anyone. To someone who truly loves music passionately it would be life changing. This could create quite a massive moral boost. The drawbacks It could cause an NPC to grow sorrowful at times past. Remind them of a long lost friend/family member/lover and grow wistful, angry or confused. I could see arguments arise over 'who get's to listen to what' records. The music itself - as the dev's see fit - would be difficult to find and high value making them worth finding. Once you've secured food and shelter things like music would take on greater significance. Final Thoughts I'd like to see a rare type of NPC. An NPC with an acoustic guitar or perhaps a violin. Heck, they might just be a wonderful vocalist. With no TV, computer games etc such an NPC would be highly valued to the group. Even if he/she had no other skills. Edit: Something else just occurred. Of course, there would be no digital download To that end you'd need to find a player and the medium too. I like the idea there could be different tiers to the things you've found. Finding a CD is good. Finding vinyl would be amazing. As ever, these are just my thoughts. If you don't like them, don't rubbish them. Suggest amendments or alternatives. It's this link which got me thinking about this idea. Source: http://www.reddit.com/r/projectzomboid/comments/23cxir/background_music/
  24. Yeah but the stuff they've added has been widely requested and was bound to bring PZ a lot of free publicity Look everyone an extremely cheap multiplayer zombie game! The punters would come running. Also, it's shoot yourself in the foot. If you're stabbing yourself in the foot then there is something seriously wrong there I think it's important to appreciate how small the team is. This isn't a triple A game and it doesn't have it's funding. http://projectzomboid.com/blog/about-us/ Patience Daniel-son!
