AlexHupsch got a reaction from DresdenBBQ in Mods I'm dying to see.
I've had this little top 3 list in my head for a little while now and wanted to throw it at the modding community. These are the 3 mods that I think would improve the gameplay the most (in no particular order):

    1. Horses: A big problem with getting around in PZ is the travel time on foot. If your going from Muldraugh to West Point, duuuuude, such a long walk. There have been mods attempting to address the issue, like the various car mods. Hydrocraft added horses to an earlier build, but since then the devs implemented a 3d engine to model the characters. It seems like something that is doable, having mountable horses. It would be fun to herd zombie hordes on horseback. It would be crazy to get swallowed by a horde while riding a horse, too.  Anyway, I hope someone will consider approaching it.

1b. Some kind of modding tools for the PZ3D engine. 'nuf said.

    2.  Zombie Mode... Mod: I don't know about the rest of you, but I die so much. So much of the time I spend dying.  And sometimes I find my character has died in an interesting scenario, and I just watch to see where it goes. But what would make that so much more fun, would be if you could control your shambling corpse. I want to be able to go bust in windows and knock down doors, maybe kill another survivor or two with the Survivors Mod (I love that mod). It would also be cool to be able to gather a horde with you as you go, depending on the settings for the zombies in that scenario.

    3.  Climbing!!!: I can't believe I almost forgot to mention CLIMBING!!!! Why is it there are ladders that you can't climb? Why can't you climb ropes? We need to be able to do these things! Someone, please! It's the one element missing in having true safehouses. you can take the stairs out, but you can't climb back up to that second floor, all safe and above the reach of the dead. This is the mod that everyone needs.

Like I said, I'm throwing these ideas out there, because I have them and I just hope we'll see mods like them someday. Thanks.

This building took me a while but its complete. its 2 apartment buildings with storage lots behind them to create an alley between them.
There is also a Laundry place, a hair salon, a grocery store and a clinic below the apartments.

I would love to be able to use your updated mods. Haven't been able to access them since you switched mostly to the Workshop. Can you share a download link for those of us who don't have/use steam?

I know Ive been spamming nothing but apartments really, but its mainly because of the district on the map im working on calls for lots of apartment buildings

So as the great DJ Kaled would say

    "ANOTHER ONE"

This one has a shoe store on the bottom aswell some garages for a back alley
not to mention the only entry into the apartments is through the back.

When I experiment with mapping I like to keep a master .pdn with every feature on its own layer. Not just each terrain type, but each feature. for instance I generate the forests as though nothing else is there. Then I have a seperate layer with planned building foundations, and another layer derived from it by an outline and distort to determin the vegetation around foundations that needs to be removed.
This way I can make major changes to things like road layout without having to compleatly regenerate my veg map or fill in lots of gaps.

My basic rule is to seperate every operation into a new layer and only delete them if I absolutely know that I will not need them later.

    Progress Update:

So I've created shells for a few more towns which are Melway, Hickston, and Merrill. Heres a bit about what to expect in each of these towns and where the main settlement area will be:

    Melway
Melway is an industry type of town and will have access to larger docks and will have more warehouses. Thus for tools this should be amongst the first places you hit. In this town the place to fortify will likely be one of the smaller warehouses or a small boat.

    Hickston
Hickston is th second city in the area that im working on. It will have many tall office buildings, lots of construction and overall a balanced layout of buildings. The residential areas gravitate towards the center and the south portions of town and the business surround them on the east and west. To the north you'll find a large factory and some self storage units. In this city the place to hide is going to be on the roof top of one of the office buildings.

    Merrill
Merill is a resort type of town. its where people go to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. you'll find restaurants, a couple of hotels and plenty of hobby shops. Many of the smaller buildings are houses while some are rentable cabins. You'll also find some timeshare houses which will be the identical aside from the furniture. In its outskirts you'll likely find camps with some remaining loot. In this location the main hotel at the entrance to the city will have the settlement located on its top two floors.

Now i've been going on about settlements for the last couple of days and youre probably wondering what I mean. These are locations that will have lots of different resources for your disposal and provide refuge in an otherwise hostile environment.

Thats it for todays update. As always questions, comments and suggestions are welcomed!

Hello Everyone! As you may have noticed big changes are coming for the map and I'd like to show you the progress of Anabasis and talk a little about what i'm up to.

Anabasis is, as many know, the beginning of our story. Thus it will be one of the easier places to live in. The center of town was made with the idea that players would band together and fortify it (maybe like 50 wood log walls would be needed) and several factions could then lay claims to separate areas.  In the center you'll find a dorm like area above the bank, a furniture store, hardware store offices, the police station, convenience stores, pizzeria, a school, grocers, self storage, salon and clothing store. By now you've probably noticed the unfinished buildings. The lagest one will either be a hotel or apartments, the ones next to it are a sandwich shop and gas station. then the smaller ones towards the right are going to be small coast homes.  The rest of the area will likely be houses and a place to get train tickets to head out into the world and a cabin or two and a pier to fish in.

I've also got the boat back in. It'll be a bit of a run to get to the city but you wont be without resources as the ship will have plenty. This would also make a good base if you can fix the front hull breaches. At the bottom left the road there will be leading to a train depot which will also be a good place to fortify due to its high walls but you'll have to clear all the zombies first.

Here we have a large portion of the southern part of landmass. I want to populate this area with shells before I release, this way players can have an idea of whats to come. I might also release some of those cell lots for some of you to populate to your liking. Overall though there's a lot to work on and it'll be a long time before I finish it.

As always comments, questions, and suggestions are welcomed!

    Progress updates:
Yesterday my computer caught a virus and i was certain id get screwed. Thankfully though i managed to fix it and i've got two new locations for you all to see.

Up north we have the city of Irin and towards the bottom right we have the new Bridgewater.  As you can see I'm making shells so that i have an idea of what the buildings will be like. Irin will also be the medical area for this portion of the map, thus it has the biggest hospital. it will also have a community college, hotel/motel, highschool and elementary school and many shops and restaurants along with large office buildings. This will be a teaser to the larger and more dangerous cities youll come by. In Bridgewater we'll have a factory and a few stores but it will largely be a residential area.

Basically what I'm planning for the next couple of weeks is create towns with shells, then make the actual buildings with furniture, followed by making and adding POI's and then having a small release.

AlexHupsch got a reaction from grammarsalad in That thing no one wants to talk about
Everybody wants to talk about realism, but one thing never seems to come up. What happens to food after you eat it? Two words: Poop Moodle.

    Stages of poop moodle:

    1. Kinda gotta go

“Could use a trip to the restroom”

    2. Gotta go

“Need to dump out. Get to the restroom.”

    3. Getting backed up

“At risk of hurting yourself. Get to a restroom. Now.”

    4. Prairie-Dogging/Crowning

“Do you really wanna push this? You know what happens next.”
Obviously you should be able to evacuate at a toilet. But what do you do when the water shuts off? You could use a bucket and just dump it out somewhere.

In a jam, you can dig a hole to poop in with your hands, a trowel, or a shovel. But be careful, you might need a minute and you'll be exposed.

If you have to poop and you suddenly become panicked, you might just lose control.

This mod would add a new item, Shitty Pants. Carrying this item would have negative effects, and wearing them even more so.

If you crap your pants and have to run around with shitty pants on, you will start to become unhappy, nauseated, and, if the condition goes on too long, you could get and infection.

And of course, not pooping can lead to pain, sickness, and a loss of health.

Here's my argument: besides adding to the realism of survival, it would also add a new challenge to the game that I think could play out quite interestingly. You always die at some point, why not die while trying to poop in the woods? Plus, how funny would it be to have to deal with a character that just shit his/her pants? Probably funny the first couple of times, then you'd start taking the problem a little bit more seriously. Just like you're gonna take this mod idea seriously, once you digest the idea for a little while.

The whole umbrella category of zombie variation really interests me. I was just about to post two ideas I had on that:

    1. I'd love to see more models used, i.e. child and overweight zombies.  Or have body parts be able to come off, like arms and legs.

    2. I've also been thinking about sound mods, especially for crying, laughing, and screaming/yelling zombies. I find the idea that reanimated corpses would have weird behavioral tics from randomly firing existing neural pathways super creepy.

    Because...

When it comes to the zombie apocalypse, nothing could be more terrifying than being chased by a bunch of laughing and/or crying child zombies. Or having an overweight corpse barreling at you full speed.

There should be a small chance for spawning an abnormal, very aggresive zombie which is faster and is able to easly get through a fence for example.
