Edited this post to also house the link to the mod and stuff:

So, I've just released my mod on the steam workshop. This mod contains a bunch of tile sets (at this point only ones made by me) and the tile definitions for those tilesets https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2337452747

The tilesets which are included in this mod can be downloaded here on google drive https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1OCKLNmHbpBMtf0eOvN5nDoyGRtt-VfME?usp=sharing

If you want to use these simply put them in you 2x tiles folder and subscribe to the mod. (everyone playing your map will also need to subscribe otherwise the tiles won't work for them) And of course provide credit when you do use em. I will keep making more tilesets and I will add them to the drive and the mod when they are ready. I may update existing tile sets but I will not rearrange anything as not to break a bunch of stuff.

I've also just set up a Patreon. Account, no clue how the thing works but I'll try to make good use of it.
If you wish to support my work, I appreciate it: https://www.patreon.com/DaddyDirkieDirk

    OG post:

I plan on making a bunch of tiles sets to expand on the tile sets that are currently in game. By doing this I hope you will all get to make even more exciting places to discover in the future. It may not be going fast but I hope to keep working on it going forward.

    Tile set roadmap:
-Bedroom sets. I want to make bunch of bedroom sets that each include a bunch of objects to better dress the bedroom. (Finished, may need to change contrast though)
-Kitchen sets. more cabinets, tables, chairs stuff like that. (WIP, Counters are done
-Doors (1 door sheet is done)
-Bathroom set, I made a test for this but I want to properly add a bunch.
    -Outside wall/floor tiles?
-The Arcadian,Arcade hall tile set (Actually almost finished with the machines)
-Sofa king, Sofa store tile set.

Down below is a WIP shot of the template I will be using for the bedrooms, every bedroom will have a single and double bed, different cabinets, closet, shelves and a TV stand.

    Thanks I will,

Here is the first set basically completed. I may just add some noise texture to it to make a bit more dirty

So, second one is basically done. I really though I´d be able to finish these quicker but what can you do.
Bedrooms are kinda boring to make so maybe I´ll do 1 more with different door knobs and such and then maybe a color variation

*Edit, I may up the contrast a bit on this second one.

Ill post an update of the bedroom furniture stuff, I have about 5 tile sets finished now. But first, kitchen counters. these are just recolors, I really didn't feel like redrawing everything When all I wanted was to change colors.

The 2 on their own I just added a hanging cabinet, the counter is vanilla.

Aaaand the bedrooms, some beds are just reskins of existing beds. Most stuff is redrawn though.

Hell even I still used cassette tapes in the 90's as CD's and CD Players were expensive. Sony Walkman was still the king in the 90's.

Also I like some of the vintage ideas he had.

Regarding the music. I'm not for or against his alternatives, but I really do dislike the PZ soundtrack. The Arabic is really off-putting. I think the John Carpenter tension filled vibe would be a great direction to explore.

Also banjos and violins might be quaint if your not from or around the US but every time I hear them I wish I was dead. Violins in a classical style or Banjo's in other genre's? Yeah awesome.

    It's not scary just annoying.

He has a lot of good ideas though. I'm actually really impressed with his post.

PS: I don't mean to crap all over the music, I just feel like if your going for immersive gaming it could be done better. The music itself isn't bad at all, just not the best context wise for this game.

Edit: I turned off the music years ago. So that guy isn't the only one. Occasionally I let it roll for a few months after a fresh install or something but eventually it goes off.

Another idea would be the ability to add a ingame MP3 player via the menu. Would def be cool, or perhaps at least some voice acted radio broadcasts which I wish there was more of.

    Hi,

My conclusion: be careful not to overwhelm the (new) player with entire lists of items, skill levels and crafting recipies. In fact I think it already is too much! Instead, change the inferface to hide skills, items, recipies and other mechanics until later in the game or if the player asks for it.

I think this is crucial for your game to be a growing succes. And I feel I have to tell you, because your current audience (loyal game testers who embrace every addition to the game) might not see the danger.

I started playing PZ in 2014. Back then the game was full of bugs and technical limitations but it was more intuitive than it is now. Recently I got back to this great game (so after 4 years) and these are some of my impressions:

    - The character screen shows so many (ex-) jobs, perks and tweaks all with corresponding statistics but I mostly don't know what they mean so I skip the min-max-ing stage in fear of unpurposely making a permanent mistake. Let's just start a standard game.
    - Opening the skills tab, it shows more than just a crafting skill. In fact crafting is seperated into electricity, metal working, and carpentry. Realistic perhaps, but worrying... and after 2-3 hours of play I'm still at 0xp.
    - Browsing through the skills catalogue: 'create smoke bomb'; 'create smoke bomb with timer'; create smoke with proximity'; create bomb#2 with combination #4; etc. etc. while I don't even have the skill level for it. Where do I even start? Do I need this?
    - I notice that I can use the sink to fill a pan, but not use the pan to fill in the sink. That means that apparently I've come along many electrical and craftable objects but simply didn't notice how to use them. We're >8 hours later and I haven't seen a single bush to forage. And no, I'm not going to read a wiki or other manual to play a game.
    - Wait, did I say foraging? Trapping and fishing? Am I supposed to grind through all these skills in order to survive? Is this Runescape? XD

Enough complains: please change the interface and hide some mechanics for new players! I just want to invite friends to this game, but with the current first impression they won't be convinced.

    Thanks!

The mall is a laggy chunk. It always has been.

Best thing I can say would be to get as far away from the mall as possible and restart the game.

Mall + Zombies = This is how you died.

Though even on a toaster like mine, I've lured them away and cleared the mall. It's still pretty choppy.

So as you see above in the red circle on the toolbar, click the the select tool.

Then you can select what objects/walls you want to copy by holding CTRL.

    Drag and Magic!

    Hope this helps!

Oh I see now, you can only copy walls made with [Place Wall] tool.... I was trying to copy rooms that I made with the [Draw Room] tool....

On the confirmed "no" list was starting BEFORE zombies, which I admit had me a little bummed, as I'd always wanted to be able to rob my neighbors in the night and max out the credit cards in preparation of the impending doom that is the apocalypse. Here is an idea that I personally find within the okay range.

You start up a new game in the mode "The Beginning". It starts out with a few dozen zombies scattered around the map, and a crap load of npcs (this idea would apply to a way later build). The npcs live in houses, go to work (essentially just sit around at a store) and do various simple things, all the while the zombies are infecting npcs.
"But wouldn't the hoard of npcs arm themselves with pitchforks and torches?" You say. What I suggest is a "Reality meter". Different levels would be for different npcs, but essentially they wouldn't believe in zombies until either A) a certain amount of time has passed or B) they have had a close call with a zombie. This would lead to the innocent townsfolk not knowing what hit them until too late.
This is just a skeleton of an idea, but this is what I have. Let me know what you think, and as always, thanks for reading.

That really is my point, though: it's the inevitable passage of time. It wears us all down.

Also I don't think it's just seasonal when it comes to MP, now. Player numbers were really good from Oct - Jan and the game brought in a ton of new people, but barely anyone was on the public MP side of things. Maybe it's just a consequence of taking down the official servers, but I don't know. We'll see what the spring brings.

Whether the vehicle build will work or not (even with vehicles off) is questionable. The latest build uses more VRAM/RAM, for example. Though advanced things like FBOs for the GUI can be disabled in the next build (not the current vehicle one), I don't know if it'll help.

Iirc vehicles will be optional so in theory you'll be able play without them been spawned but also benefit from the overall optimisations that's been added.

People depart from the forum because they have lives. It's a very strange and unique thing for people to hang around for 3 to 8 years for just one video game.

It was the same thing with Subspace Continuum (and the Fallout 1 /Fallout 2 communities, and abandoneware scenes)- those that remained blamed anyone in power for the slow departure of its members. Maybe there was an element of truth to it but, what does anyone expect when we change from teenagers to adults with jobs, children, and terminal illness in our families and among our friends (or ourselves)? . They get old. They get bored. They move on. There's nothing anyone can do about it, aside from encourage new members and hope that the game continues to grow. No amount of false courtesy or enforced "professionalism" and telling people only what they want to hear, will change this simple fact of life. It is asking a lot of anyone to stick around for months let alone years on one thing, there's no way to coerce people to do that.

Yeah, I was trying to be balanced about it. Because it's a great game, but it has even greater potential.

What you just said has pretty much made me sad though, cause now I feel like I'll never get to see/experience what I wanted.

It also confuses me even more in regards to Fort Knox and the military...... I mean if there's no Single Player Narrative ....... Ugh..

Just sad. I wanted to see the Military roll into the game when they setup the quarantine zone, think things got under control. Then get overran and all that good stuff. Or as I nagged before, at least a event system for custom maps or scenario's would fill this void.

Thanks for the input. Still curious about the technical limitations and whether or not that has intimidated them which is why so many things get shelved besides the obviously stated reasons.

Kudo's to most people for keeping this conversation civil. It's a hard one to have without people just being a dick.

I've been on the rage side of this conversation before, it didn't go well. I've also been on the be patient side. But I think the main point is this - we didn't buy the game years ago for MP, Cars, or any of this other stuff.

We didn't buy a sandbox game, we bought a game that was a story about the zombie apocalypse. The early version I would call a tech demo had NPC's. That's what helped sell this game when I bought it on desura.

Then it felt like after all the problems they went through, we got the bait and switch once they redid it without any basic NPC's.

I got over that feeling awhile ago (at least to the point of raging). I even found new ways to appreciate this game.

That being said, I think there are technical limitations to this game that make the devs wary of even approaching things like NPC's, Big Cities and other things of that magnitude. I worry that they might be in over their heads sometimes in regards to these grand ambitions and just hope that this is not all their procrastination at confronting something they are afraid won't work well.

Vehicles and animations are great and all....... even MP........... but I'm in it for single player, a campaign or story line with NPC's and not this sandbox crap.

I've heard very little recently or EVER about the direction of the single player other than radio broadcasts.
I don't need an ETA, but the public really would like to know whether or not TIS is up to the task, capable of the task and what the end goal is regarding these years old game ideas that some of us bought the game for.

I've been silent for a few years because I know how taboo NPC's are, so I generally only push for more about single player event systems in mapping. But have received little to no feedback even on that.

So, at this point we need some input as to what I said above - wtf is going on? Not when.
