    Hiya!

I've been in and out of PZ and the forums over the years, so I do apologize if this is a topic that has been brought up before now. I love the game, and, obviously, farming is important in the long run. Based on the setting of Kentucky, being pretty similar to my home in Ohio, USA, I have a few suggestions on additional veggies that should be available for farmers, simply based on how common and easy they are around here. In my opinion, we should also be able to grow onions, lettuce, corn, and zucchini, at the very least; and also eggplant and bell pepper, really.

Also, it would be awesome if we could plant orchards of fruit trees and grow apples and cherries, which are pretty common and easy to grow here. :)

Not a bad idea to spice things up, however keep in mind that full solar eclipses last only a couple of minutes, and with the game time (24x faster than real time by default), it would be nothing but a blink of an eye.

Susan reacted to Kuren in how deep will the NPC system go?
I know I'm in the minority here but I hope NPCs don't get in anytime soon. Simply because I love the updates. And not only that but I want the NPCs to be great within the game. I mean, I want NPCs but more than anything I want the game to be as full and rich as it can be before they enter it. I know they need to use all the systems in the game and that's why I hope we get a lot more systems put in before the devs have to cave to the pressure of impatient people.

In the end, I wish the community (veterans and newbies alike) could spend some time taking about NPCs and not about their ETA...

Susan reacted to EasyPickins in RELEASED: Public Build 34.28
Public build 34.28 is released (also on GOG!)

All this is from IWBUMS 34.28:

A new column in the server whitelist database shows the Steam ID of the owner the game, in case it is different than the Steam ID of the client that is connecting.  This should allow admins to deal with problem players that are abusing the account-sharing features of Steam.  To ban the owner of the game, the admin will need to add the owner's Steam ID to the bannedip table manually.  Banning a player the usual ways only bans the Steam ID of the client, not the owner. Moved coop-stderr.txt and coop-stdout.txt to Zomboid folder (they were in the install directory). Fixed clients getting stuck in an endless download loop after an 8-second timeout had occured waiting for a map update from the server. Disabled Nutrition.update() on the server and for dead players. Server saves map_t.bin every 10 minutes instead of every 10 seconds (ouch) and does it in a separate thread. Players are sorted by name in the in-game players list. Take items from the ground and other containers when lighting fireplaces and woodstoves. Fixed bird sound playing for trapped animals. Fixed "Navigate + Use Doors" zombies opening locked doors and windows. Fixed sleep-related traits not being available in multiplayer when sleep is allowed. Reduce all food-related properties (like calories) when adding bait to traps. Boredom/Unhappiness now get reduced when eating food or using food as bait. Place moved rugs on top of the topmost floor object.
    Added in the public build:
Removed a bunch of server and client console spam.  If you want to see messages on the server about map loading/unloading, pass -debuglog=MapLoading on the commandline when launching the server.  Other messages can be removed by setting -Dzomboid.znetlog=0 in the server's .json file (or .BAT/.SH file depending on how you start the server).

That's a great comparison there Kuren.

There have been so many movies I've been hyped for over the years and the wait for PZ NPCs is now getting to that sort of timescale. By the time we're sitting down to enjoy movies like Infinity War or Star Wars Episode 9 (maybe even episode 8 on Blu-ray) we culd also be toying with the simulated emotions of Muldraugh residents.

Putting it in that perspective, it'll be here before we know it (and in the meantime there will be so many other juicy updates to the game)

    The Big Stuff

    ETA! When will . . .
TIS has a strict no-ETAs policy, while they may have their own internal timeframes. Only features in a playable (and fun state) will be released to the stable branch. For those looking to live dangerously, there's IWBUMS.

    Where're the NPCS?
tl;dr Perpetually slaved over by our dedicated founders, NPCs are in the works and likely won't be out for quite a while yet.  More information will likely be provided after the animation update.

    What are your priorities?
Because TIS is a large (if small) team working remotely from one another, some features may be completed faster than others. This doesn't mean other highly requested features are being ignored; TIS has gone out of their way to avoid being side-tracked by hiring General Arcade to assist with MP development. Smaller stuff will be addressed when individual devs find time.

NPCs remain the highest priority. Only things close to release are discussed in the Mondoids; this does not mean other things are being ignored or that the developers have changed their priorities.

    How often does PZ update?
The IWBUMS branch can update anywhere from several times a day to once a week, usually, while the stable branch can take anywhere from one to three months for updates to trickle down. This timeframe depends on the complexity of the feature(s), the stability of the game, and how much polish is necessary, thanks to community feedback.

    What do Build Numbers mean?
Not much. They're just a way of compartmentalizing features, bug fixes, tweaks .etc into manageable bites. If something is not ready for a planned build number, but the rest of a build number is significantly complete, that feature may be held back until it's ready for release.

Survival Mode -- It's Too Difficult!
Back in the early days, PZ was a much more difficult game. Since Build 30, PZ has tried to recapture that sense of danger in the optional Survival mode. Be wary of the hardcore description, it means it.

But seriously, as shitty as it must feel with people constantly forcing the 'NPC Issue' down your throats at TIS, most of us on the forum understands that you're all doing a fantastic job on the game so far. Keep it up, man.

Wat?, Hydrocraft doesn't dictate how the base game is developed. You could just solve that by removing the in-game furnace and replacing it with your own.

We must do what's best for the game, which is not always what's best for modders. We do sympathise with the extra workload, but this is not a hugely drastic switch in art style. The style is generarally staying the same. The change is in resolution. Please don't berate the devs for doing what they think is best with a game which is in continuing development. It's called an alpha for a reason.

Fire is, a few tweaks and rebalances aside, still more or less the same system we implemented way back in the early days of Zomboid and I agree I don't find the behaviour of the fire natural and realistic enough. We're at the point now where I don't want to promise anything new until we get stuff out there, but I do really want a graphic and functional overhaul of it since it's still very spritey and going through all the other issues with it will surely happen at the same time.
