TheBuzzSaw got a reaction from Nazarito22 in High CPU usage since using steam?
I need to emphasize: higher CPU usage != more work being done and/or better game performance. I've played games that have 500x the graphics and stay below 40% CPU usage. I've lost count of how many times I've seen people reply to 100% CPU usage concerns with "100% is good because it's a game, and it's doing lots of stuff". High CPU usage just means the software is acting irresponsibly with its resources.

Zomboid has two aspects working against it: (1) It uses Java (slave to the whims of JVM updates), and (2) it simulates a whole city (with a large quantity of zombies). So, higher than normal CPU usage isn't the end of the world, but any game absolutely should NOT be grinding near 100% usage ever.

    That's fair I suppose. I still don't like it, but we'll live.

I gotta say: I think a nutrition update sorta crosses the line. I love the detail in the Zomboid universe, but I don't like when that detail becomes something I have to micromanage. Realism is great until it becomes a chore and detracts from the excitement of the game itself. I feel that the proposed nutrition system does exactly that. I think the game is great as it is: you need to find food wherever you can find it and stay alive, and different kinds of food satisfy you at varying degrees (with various punishments for eating rotten/old food). The idea that I cannot just eat chips over and over sounds dreadful. I don't think The Sims even monitors this level of detail.

I'd propose that the nutrition system as a whole be isolated into a mod or server setting. It's just not a mechanic my group is looking forward to. =/

I think it's a fun idea to look forward to. Of course it'd be a massive undertaking, but it'd be worth investigating once Project Zomboid has made billions and been mostly debugged/developed. I would love to create such a mod someday.

Any timeline on when split-screen will be mostly kink and glitch free?

So far, my girlfriend and I have had a blast playing together using the latest steam build (Starting as Administrator on Executable, after finding the PZ game directory, has been key for playing split-screen). It's an absolutely blast, but the games are generally cut premature due to a game ending bug or another. On top of strange interface errors, the mouse is essential to both players interface, and often times we muust wait turns to loot/use our inventories to avoid interference. Almost always, things would go awry if we tried using our respective inventories at the same time. We both love the game, and it's a bunch of fun single-player, as well as split-screen despite the bugs and kinks. Glad to be part of the process.
