  1. Use cheats to spawn in a group of 50 zombies, set me a par time and if I don't get within ~30 seconds of your time I lose. If you hit more than level 1 exhaustion you lose by default. edit: actually scratch that for every tier of exhaustion you gain 60 seconds gets added to your par.
  2. Okay, so your position is: I have to fight differently with a knife so I lose by default? Axes/Bats are NOT as effecient and I've explained why about 10 times in this thread including my OP. That's literally the crux of my argument. There is no increased danger to myself because I know how to push. I can take on the same size groups and not tire out my character, but because the fighting styles are different it invalidates the superior outcome? Come on man, that can't sound anything but ridiculous even to you. Any time you saved by "standing there and swinging" is invalidated about 3 large groups in when you have to rest. Oh and I forgot to mention in the op another plus: I never need beta blockers either. Yeah I might whiff 1:20 stabs from panic but that's far less than the number of zeds you WON"T crit with an axe even WITH beta blockers.
  3. I'm not offended but like I said I feel no obligation to defend a point I don't hold. A push always gives knockback too, I don't understand what you mean. And the "strafing" is me trying to manipulate the order of the zombies to seperate for stabs.. That's how you properly fight with a knife. First kill faster zombies, then time your pushes to seperate. If you aren't satisfied with the video tell me what you want me to run. I already said I will take requests. Really? You're going to try and go there? There are probably 20:1 knives in the game, not to mention screwdrivers. It's literally nothing.
  4. You can see my last post. And an axe is NEVER as predictable as a knife, sorry but that is a ridiculous argument.
  5. Very clearly in a push animation. Like I said, you can push as many zombies as you can hit with an axe(three)... edit: and how about you stop trying to kafka trap me. I'm not going to defend a position I don't hold. My argument isn't that you can "just sit there and swing" like with an axe, I know they don't have the same abilities. My argument is and always will be that the end results are always better with a knife because you will never be exerted by fighting with a knife and you can carry an additional bag. Sorry but I'm not even going to respond to you if you are going to argue in bad faith.
  6. You want to be critical that's fine, but don't straight up lie. edit: and the video wasn't directed at anyone specifically I say they are objectively the best because A. They never tires you out B. You can carry an additional bag without penality C. You can push as many zombies as an axe can hit, there is no added danger You can disagree, sure. But I don't think my reasoning is unsound.
  7. Actually, now that I think back, I played co-op with a friend of mine and he hosted and runs windows and it was harder than usual to knock down zombies... I chalked it up to lag, but maybe it is a bug with the linux build single player/co-op? What you see is what you get for "proper zombies" and nothing to up your str on linux. swear on me mum
  8. I'm not offended man, it's hard to convey feelings through the internet. I am just laughing that I shot video footage of spawning a ludicrous game and taking it on with a brand spanking new character with butter knives and got someone trying to say my build is cheating or the zombie settings weren't legit or whatever you're trying to imply. I honestly expected more people to say that the zombies should have been biting me with how close they got. We are gonna have to agree to disagree, because I won't give in. I've never(*) lost a character to anything but bordem and the delete button and to me axes are just tools to chop down trees. They do nothing but slow my kill/min down due to resting, and like it or not they do for everyone. (*)since gettin' gud, as the kids say. edit: and fwiw what inspired this thread was waiting all the time for my co-op partner because they insist on using axes and I hate waiting for him all the time.
  9. Whatever you say buddy. I spawned the world and that's how the zombies were. You tell me what settings and build you want me to run and I'll do it again, like I said though I didn't use any str boosting skills and I took extremely underweight to give me room for handy for durability. I'll record every second of it this time - start to finish. And my thread title is absolutely correct, try and kill as many zombies as I did with an axe and you will draw the entire block in and/or end up exhausted. Knives>Axe. I'm still laughing, I run an insane 4.0 4.0 game with butter knives and he's hemming and hawing moving goalposts like I didn't already prove my point.
  10. I don't know exactly what you're implying, I showed the settings I changed and I didn't pick any str boosts, in fact I took extremely underweight(or whatever it's called). And I used all butter knives in the 2nd vid ffs. Insane 4.0 start 4.0 pop with butter knives, and he tries to say I "faked it" somehow. Some serious salt there m8.
  11. and before it even starts, no I was never in any danger in that video. Status: OK edit: Hordes too dangerous? (video)
  12. You can push the same number of zombies an axe can hit(3). I said this already in my 1st post but a tip for you: Swing your weapon after you open every door, the zombies will hear it and come out and you won't get caught off guard, open the door at an angle so they don't have LOS and charge at you immediately. Dealing with a full standard survival zombie group is no issue with a knife. 2-3 zombies? That's a fairly easy job even bare handed.
  13. Jokes aside, pipebombs are pretty bad... They have what, a 4 tile radius? Totally underwhelming. And why do they start fires? IMO increase the blast radius and lose the fire. I covered that in my post: They are great, probably the best "knife" in the game. You can find them often in the places that spawn tote bags, seeds, jars/lids & ammo in counters. IE: banks, schools, hotel lobbies, houses with messed up kitchen loot(west point apartments above stores, most of the neighborhood to the north of the pharmacy/garage). They are particulary common in metal counters so long as it's not kitchen loot that is spawning. And of course the usuals I'm sure you know of - gunshop/firing range/police station.
  14. A bold claim, but I think I can make a solid case. Here we go~ Axe Causes fatigue Reduced effectivesness if one-handed One hit kills are RNG, not truely a powerhouse until ~mid-level blade accuracy Loud, can attract a lot of unwanted attention Rare Also a necessary tool for survival Blunt Causes fatigue, Sledge is like sleeping pills for fatigue Bats lose effectiveness one handed One handed only blunt weps hit only one zombie Loud, can attract a lot of unwanted attention Make way too many crawlers Common, I guess. Yay? Crowbar has durability in spades... but it's still a crowbar. No wait, actually it's a bat... but it's not. Seriously, just... no. Unless you have no other choice. Pls buff Knives Zero fatigue Can carry a 2nd bag or a flashlight with no penalty Always kills in one hit, 100% effectiveness at zero points(durability aside...I'll get to that) Nearly silent, noise travels roughly 1 tile away(unless you mess up and bonk them on the nose) Extremely common Common arguments and my answers "It's too hard/I can't get the timing down..." You know that point where you are too close to swing an axe/bat and your char pushes instead? That's the same spot you stab. Always walk towards a zombie as you stab until you get REALLY good at judging the distance. I don't know why but it helps you develop and maintain a rhythm for stabbing. Set up a sandbox with horde size of 5, max separation from leader, max seperation between groups and practice for a little bit. Slowly increase horde size and decrease separation as you get better. You'll be a pro in no time. "Knives have low durability" Carry a ton of butter knives at first, save your kitchen knives until ~2pts maint if you can. Find screwdrivers ASAP and never leave them behind, they work like knives and are super durable. They cannot be repaired, but don't worry you can still move stuff with them and craft even when they are at broken status. Chopping trees is great blade maint xp and you're going to be doing it anyways so save good weapons until you have done some carpentry grinding, Once you get 4 or so points in maint you can drop a standard survival zed group with a single butter knife: Problem solved. "Using knives is too dangerous" Mastering the push is the key to excelling with the knife: Learn to judge spacing so you can push exactly the zombie(s) you want to push and no more. Once you have mastered the push, zombies are a pushover. (okay, that was horrid. pls no tomatos ) Zombies move at different speeds, you can exploit this to knife them one by one, reducing risk to yourself. You can sneak faster than even the fastest zombie can attack - at sprinting level zero! Sure, they can catch up to you, but they can not finish an attack animation - provided you are continuously moving. Don't panic! If you run you will only draw more attention. (note: this does not apply when 2+ zombies catch up to you and slow you, tap sprint once to create a gap, zombies lose speed over time while running and slow to "catch their breath" - exploit this.) PROTIP: Never, ever, EVER(!) just walk into unexplored tight spaces(bathrooms, closets, stairwells, corners): Open the door(or stop at a corner/middle of stairwell) and stab the air with your knife and the zombie(s) will happily come to you every single time. (note: this applies even if you choose not to use knives, it works with any weapon.) "The axe can hit multiple zombies at once" When your stabbing and pushing game is solid you will have better results than an axe unless it crits multiple zeds(mid-level blade accuracy for this to occur regularly). Even then I'd argue the end result is always better unless you have put yourself in a precarious situation that absolutely requires felling 2-3 zombies a swing,.. Bold claim, right? Better..? Yes, better: Because you can achieve the same result in roughly the same amount of time and it cost you almost no fatigue if you executed properly, You can clear a ton more zombie groups and cover more ground with less time spent resting, things also tend to go more smoothly more often because knifing zombies very rarely draws the attention of multiple groups - and on top of that you can carry two bags and be at full effectiveness!
  15. I see. I thought you were saying the difficulty was in adding the line all over the place, but it's actually because you'd need two seperate mods because one supercedes the other.
  16. You could automate the append process using bash. example1: echo "ResizeWorldIcon = 1.0" | tee --a hydro1.file hydro2.file hydro3.file or example2: echo "ResizeWorldIcon = 1.0" | tee --a *.file if all in same dir ^To append to mutiple files. To insert at specific lines in a large file... get back to me if that's what you need.
  17. Anyone? Still not found one and have quite a bit of time since the update. Like I said, had same problem with the standalone mod.
  18. Anyone managed to find a big hiking bag since the last hydrocraft update? I have not and I had the same problem when build 34 hit IWBUMS and I fixed it by removing... more edibles. I think there is a bug with it and it carried over into hydrocraft.
  19. So I've been thinking lately that the time period is kind of under utilized, one thing that isn't really a thing today but was really popular back then was arcade machines. Not only could these introduce a new kind of building(an arcade, duh) but spiffo's and the various restaurants and bars could have an arcade machine or two that you could loot for logic boards to get electronics xp and components. And think of the sweet spiffo cabinet art we could have!

If you're gonna do weapon lights(i've seen em working in mods), some suggestions for 90's period correct stuff(I actually used some of these on the job when they were new! man I feel old...) laser products(now surefire) 633R Released in 1980's but popular well into the 90's. (airsoft but real deal light, hard to find pics of these crusty old things...) this was the beretta 92 version though they also had the 610R for the m1911, though sadly doesnt look like we are getting a clone of the grandaddy american .45 semi auto. laser products 318 for shotguns of 80's vintage but popular well into even the 00's, though it would have held a vintage light not like depicted(easy to superimpose in photoshop for ref) laser products 650 UTLS universal and could serve well as a light for all the rifles, also 80's vintage - also popular well past its release. Sorry for double post, it wouldn't let me edit again, and seems the servers are acting weird(backend fetch errors).

I didn't know I wanted a bayonet until now. I remember watching the animations video with that little spear thing a few months(?) back and that looked like a really effective way to splat zombies. Anyway, looks pretty awesome. I'm glad we'll be getting more variety in weapon and ammo types because it's a little too easy to stockpile ammo with the limited amount of calibers available currently even on very rare, IMO. EDIT: if I had one criticism to level, and I do because I'm an incessant pedant, the pistol red dot sight is really anachronistic for 1993. red dot sites on pistols got their start in IPSC a few years down the road and even then it was the rifle sized cmore serendipity on a drilled and tapped mount, not something you want to lug around in a holster. The kind of red dot sight you have modeled was not even an imaginable thing in 1993.
