could be as simple as allowing you to cancel while the animation is playing. Maybe if you move in the direction opposite? It would certainly have saved a few of my characters from month long recoveries and/or death :/

There is some sort of mechanic for zeds at the door... I got trapped in a house and I started getting the "anxious" moodles. I wasn't scratched so it was kind of surprising.

You can tell if you are zombified or not instantly, no need to wait: Bandage up and eat some food, does your health go all the way back up to "OK"? Then you're not infected. If it doesn't go all the way back up... You're done for.

Sounds to me like these illnesses would make for some very interesting playthroughs. It would certainly break the monotony of the late game: "It's morning, better go check my farm! *barfs everywhere on contact with light, collapses from exhaustion and pain on the roof from migraine headache*"

Energy drinks didn't become very popular in the USA until 1997ish with Red Bull. That'd be 4 years off the start time.

They did have anti-sleep pills (caffeine pills) though

2 issues with this: not every player wants to take basic electrical engineering class to play PZ (which is why those skills are represented with a simple value on your character), and all these renewable power sources would not have been readily available in the mid 90's. They did exist, they just weren't wide spread.

That said, it would make for an AWESOME mod I like engineering

As I recall it goes like this: when a zombie hits you, it rolls to determine if it's a "punch", a scratch or a bite. This roll is affected by thick skin, I just have never seen any values on that. If you get a scratch, a second roll is done to determine if you will zombify. This roll is also affected by thick skin (-10% reduction according to the wiki, thx for looking that up King Kitteh!). Finally, if you get a bite, it's a second roll with a flat 96% chance of zombification with no possible modifiers (that I know of). So the roll that determines damage is separate from the roll that determines whether you zombify or not.

FYI, even if you're lucky and do not get infected from a bite, you are still extremely likely to die from the massive fever you're still going to get. You're not pulling through unless you have a huge food supply you can afford to eat up within a few days :/

It's even funnier when you ARE already exerted enough, you walk towards a chair or a couch and then, before you use the "rest" option your moodle disappears so you need to sprint in circles for a few moments just for the moodle to pop up again...

Right now you need to have the 'moderate exertion' Moodle or higher present if you want to rest.

I suggest resting regardless of how exerted you are.

For instance you have been sprinting for awhile and you know you are about to become moderately exerted. You come upon a chair that is in a safe area. Yet when you try to rest, you can not rest in it because you aren't 'exerted' yet. Upon leaving the safe area you sprint for a few moments and then you are now exerted! If only you rested a moment ago

    punching zombies is suicidal.

    punching people could be fun.
it could be a nonfatal way of solving arguments with people. Have a good old fist fight and the winner gets things there way (or gets stabbed in the back later).

I will add that punching people with no protective gloves on leads to broken hands. Hands are rather useful.

On the wiki it says "If the character has the thick skinned trait, they have a 15 percent chance of being scratched."

This is on the zombie page, under the 'infection' section.

you've got the right numbers for a normal character. Thick skin reduces the chance of infection from scratches to 15% but does nothing for bites. It does make you less likely to receive a bite tho, I just can't recall the exact values.

Well if you're looking for challenge in the post zombie-apocalypse world, try Singapore. Per square mile, they would have about 20,000 zombies and less than 100 guns. You would be so buff from killing all those zombies with a baseball bat.

I must be doing something wrong with guns in this game.  I have never, ever said, "man I'm glad I fired that gun" after doing so in this game.  It usually comes with a large amount of regret and a solemn oath to never do it again...

bobchaos reacted to emilko62 in Physical impact of Depression
While at this point in time if your character is depressed he won't just wander off and kill himself but why not give some actual purpose to the moodle? Depression has a physical impact as well, not only a psychological one.
    Physical Symptoms of depression are:
Headaches. These are fairly common with people with depression. If you already had migraine headaches, they may seem worse if you're depressed. (Headache moodle? Generally it would have the effect of the pain moodle) Back pain. If you already suffer with back pain, it may be worse if you become depressed. (Less carry weight maybe?) Muscle aches and joint pain. Depression can make any kind of chronic pain worse. (I heard the Devs will add joint pain due to running too much or something of the sort, so this is a good idea!) Digestive problems. You might feel queasy or nauseated. (Speaks for itself.) Exhaustion and fatigue. No matter how much you sleep, you may still feel tired or worn out. Getting out of the bed in the morning may seem very hard, even impossible. (Faster fatigue and slower recovery rate) Sleeping problems. Many people with depression can't sleep well anymore. They wake up too early or can't fall asleep when they go to bed. Others sleep much more than normal. (Waking up in the middle of the night or not sleeping enough thus waking up tired.) Change in appetite or weight. Some people with depression lose their appetite and lose weight. Others find they crave certain foods -- like carbohydrates -- and weigh more. (Woohoo! Long live the nutrition system!) Dizziness or lightheadedness. (Disorientation and nausea?) Credits:

Depression gets very interesting as a game mechanic when you consider the wide range of potential symptoms and co-morbidity. Doubled with the fact that it's all happening in a truly hopeless, zombie-crowded world, the devs could really go nuts and have fun with this (at our expense of course! ). I think it would be best represented by progressively but randomly adding symptoms from some large list. As the moodle increases in value, you get tacked with more symptoms. You never get them all, but just 2 or 3 at max moodle could be quite crippling.

bobchaos reacted to BayCon in For The Love of Spiffo, TIS, Update the Steam Page!
WARNING: I am BRUTALLY honest in this critique of Project Zomboid's Store Page on Steam. Please don't forget that I am not attacking anyone and I love this game. I just want to share something that's been bothering me for awhile..

The minute the new animations drop, the Steam Store Page for Project Zomboid will be in desperate need of an update. I've been looking at it for awhile ever since new features were released. I purchased this game when it was at around Build 28 or 29, and as I've said a few times here and there in other places around the forum, I would have NEVER bought the game if it weren't for the Features list. I decided to put the bare, boring look of the game depicted in the store page aside and give it a shot. If I hadn't, I would have never bought an extra copy for my ex, and convinced 3 or 4 other friends to purchase the game. Imagine all the sales you might be missing out on because your Steam page does not advertize the product in its current form; a product far more polished, attractive to the eye, and feature-filled than ever before! The game shown is almost two years old by now, maybe more!

There are no shots of new features like vine-covered, cracked up houses (erosion), no shots of the new and improved 2x resolution textures, and so on. Not even a single one of the screenshots is new enough to show the improved shaders and color filters! Now I'm not suggesting you show the W.I.P. features in the screenshots, I'm just saying they should be shown after their release. Spice it up a bit. Add text over the screenshots talking about features. For example, you can place text on the split-screen screenshot saying something along the lines of "Up to x numbers of players on the same screen with controller support!"

When a consumer purchases any product, not just a video game, the marketing for that product should have made it quite clear what to expect, and when I opened the game for the first time, I little about the depth of it other than what was listed as its features. While I was given a general idea in text, the screenshots did not help to convince me of the reality of the features listed.

Another thing: Have a look at this piece of text from the features list, which I copied and pasted in its original, unedited form:

" Farming, trapping, fishing, carpentry, cooking, trapping, character customization, skills and perks that develop based on what you do in-game.  "

Did you see what I saw? They said trapping twice. In advertizing, there is a standard of perfection that, obviously, humans cannot replicate because we are not perfect, however, when you are marketing you want to make your pitch as seamless and as polished as possible. Might wanna fix that.

In nearing my conclusion, I want to add that, as most Steam users are aware, Early Access is in a shaky state at the moment and more and more people are losing faith in the system as time goes on because developers are keeping quiet about upcoming features, releasing updates with large gaps in between them, over-charging for incomplete games, advertizing amazing upcoming features, taking the money those people spent on an idea, and running off the face of the Earth. Having a store page that looks the same year after year might throw up red flags about the development of the game to people who have been on the fence for awhile.

And lastly, while I understand that Project Zomboid's trailer was made in good spirit by a couple of gentlemen running gaming channels, and I know how sentimental TIS is about people who help them, it might be time to consider updating that trailer as well. It depicts an older game, and this time around you'll want to get rid of the cursor in the film.

P.S.: I'm not sure why I can't write anything without it being too long and drawn out... -.- Anyway, let me know what you guys think!

TL;DR: PZ's Store Page on Steam is outdated and may drive away potential customers. If you want to know why I think so, see above ^^^

    Hi,

I think cooker with enough skill should see fresh food progression (from "fresh" to "rotten"). For example, on an item, they see "One day left fresh" or a progress bar like skilled farmer who see hydratation progression.

You're basically looking for more variety in recipes involving stuff found while foraging. I bet we'll have plenty of those coming once the game is feature complete. Recipes, flavor items, clothings, all that good stuff

So far most of the recipes are confined to one skill-set tho. I'd certainly like more "cross-skill" recipes like suggested in OP to encourage diversifying character skills and professions. It would also create some more late game incentives to keep going out there and looting, so you can lvl all your skills and do all the fancy recipes that require many skills.

if you're not a herbalist already you can't get the natural meds anyhow (I guess you could in MP tho). Or did you mean another skill/profession altogether?

Visual representation is a little tough just because of the size of the sprites and the work that'd be involved trying to implement it in a clear way.
