It's a nice style, you honestly don't even have to release that as a whole town, that farm as of right now would be fine, a nice place for players to go and set up base. (Also a suggestion would be building a farmers market close by.)

I call this world Norwich. It's made up of 4 county's; Haverport, Braford, Fall Lake, and Mensfield. The world is 15x9 cells. Pretty hefty. I want to eventually get it to sit on the map in that empty zone over the river ( assuming TIS staff doesn't fill that area in ). I want it to be accessible by bridge only. Albeit a broken bridge which will need to be 'fixed' by players in order to reach. This is just something I work on when I'm bored so I don't foresee it being finished, uh... For a very long time. But I figured I would share it and my progress as I go.

Haverport is more of a farming, local town area. Bradford and Fall Lake are large cities. Mensfield is somewhere in the middle.

I was never a boy scout, nor a sailor, and I suck at tying specialty knots.  I can't tie a decent hitch to save my life, and I think that our in-game characters should suffer from the same ignorance.  Specifically, if I had to tie a bunch of clothing together into a rope and then climb down it from a second story window, I might as well kiss my tush goodbye, because I'm falling to my death.

My suggestion about hitches is this: Crafting sheet ropes, lamps on a post, and tent kits, should all be dependent on knowing how to tie various hitches and knots.  This knowledge could be obtained via chosen trait/occupation or in-game reading material (Boy scout or survival manual).  This would provide a much needed nerf to the sheet rope, I believe.

Additionally, my second suggestion involves hoes.  Specifically, wild hoes.  If I can forage for and craft an ax tool that has the ability to cut through at least one tree, then I would probably be able to craft a trowel/hoe out of foraged material too.  I only thought about this during my current play through, when I accidentally destroyed my safe house with burnt vegetable soup and lost all my farming equipment.

My suggestion about hoes is this:  Crafting hoes/trowels from foraged material, but giving it low durability.  Say, it can only dig a dozen tiles before it breaks.  I believe this is realistic.

This might be a stupid idea, but why not give a heads up to the players the first weeks?

Example, you enter a building with zombies inside a room, not specific which one, but a moodle could appear telling you that something smells really bad, that should give you a heads up of either a corpse or a zombie that might lurk around there.

This could prove useful when they add diseases to having corpses around inside a house, giving a heads up of something begin rotten and probably dangerous to your health.

Maybe is too hard to code, maybe is too stupid, but it sure as hell can save you from that one zombie inside the bathroom when all the lights are out and is night time, you know the one.

*Do I need to create a certain file or code?
Yes, a good structure will save you some time in the future.

Here is an empty example mod-folder to start with:

    Instructions:
    =place=> the "myMod" folder =into=> C: ...user_name... /Zomboid/mods

You can toggle the mod in-game (and see how it works).
And even select it as a spawnpoint, but do not spawn a character.

    myMod-structure:
    - mapfiles: generate your _.lot files inside this map from WorldEd (Generate Lots...)
From here you can place/copy them inside the Muldraugh,KY folder.
Doing it like this will make the mod/files easy to share with others.
    - media : this map has files inside that lets you choose your 'map' as a spawnpoint in-game.
The important file here is "spawnpoints.lua" ,if this is empty your character can not spawn.
    - mod.info: a text-file with information, that will show up when you open the "Mods" tab in-game.
-myMod.png : a picture that is used together with 'mod.info' and is visible in the 'Mods"tab.

The World Origin numbers are your map coodinates.
You can see them in WorldEd->View->Show Coordinates (the upper cell will have 0,0).

So when you press 'Generate Lots->All Cells' and you change the World Origin numbers (0,0), the coordinates of the upper cell are changed first, not the middle one.

Maybe use a bag of sand or dirt with a fire and also melting down some kind of metal? >. <

Not sure if this already exists, if it does, I need it. But I thought it would be really great for some of us.

[repost of our blogpost here: ]http://projectzomboid.com/blog/2015/01/welcome-to-new-denver/]

If you’re a part of the Project Zomboid community you can’t help to have been blown away by the recent sudden appearance of Xeonyx’s stunningly realised map of his hometown of New Denver in British Columbia, Canada. It’s an epic achievement, and its story a very moving one, so we hope you don’t mind us taking up a bit of your time and turning the spotlight onto its creator – Jamie Magnuson.

So where did you first come across Project Zomboid? What’s your history with it?
I originally found Project Zomboid several months before the first version was released. Right off the bat I knew I was hooked. Once it was out, I didn’t actually have a computer that could play it so I had to go to my cousin’s place and use his computer. At that time I worked on a map I called Mica, on the un-updated editor, which came complete with its own prison and trailer park. It may not be playable in the updated version of Zomboid, but it was a learning experience.
What’s New Denver like as a place to live?

New Denver is a beautiful place to live. The summers are hot, great for swimming or mountain-biking, while the winters are mild. We actually had 3 feet of snow dumped on us a couple nights ago, the majority of the town was trapped in our driveways, and even the snowplow went off the road by my house. Other than that though, the view is astounding here and at night the stars shine bright like we’re living in a desert.

Why did you decide to recreate New Denver in Project Zomboid?
Originally a friend and I, several years ago, wanted to make a Half-Life 2 mod with New Denver as the map. Naturally, we were biting off way more than we could chew and thus the project fell through!
The desire to recreate the town in a game never went away for me though. One of the reasons being that if you walk around town at night it becomes empty, quiet, and dark. Like a ghost town. I originally started working on New Denver as a test to see if it was possible to do and, needless to say, I never really stopped “testing”.

[PZ dev note: Click the following image to check out the scale of his creation!]

Does anyone else from the town know what you’ve created? Are they impressed?
My friends and a few people here know about it and have backed me 100% of the way. One of my friends’ parents own the local newspaper service and I’m going to have an interview with them eventually. But I’m generally a quiet kind of person.
How accurate is the map? Is your own home on the map, or anywhere that you hang out? How about your school?
In recreating New Denver, I made sure to make it as accurate as possible, using Google Earth, local pictures, going to the different areas around town, and even using my memory from growing up here.  I tried to duplicate the interiors as best as I could, like with the school, but in real life the building slopes gently towards the lake, so there’s a second story in reality. Aside than that, my house is in the map, and it is a spawn point!

How long did the project take you? Did you have any idea what sort of epic task it would become?
The overall construction of the town took approximately 11 months, off and on, to create. At first the construction was easy: I finished a cell within a couple of weeks and I thought that I’d get it complete in a mere couple months.
After that time I had started on the third cell… that’s when I realized it was going to take a lot longer than I anticipated. At the same time I had already done too much to quit then, so I was kind of caught between a rock and a crazy place!
What are your own tactics when playing the map? Where do you hold up?
The first thing I do is decide which place to fortify based on my start location:
The Orchard – The Nikkei Centre for its fortification around the area with low zombie density Downtown – Apartment above the hardware store for obvious reasons Downtown – Apartment above the Restaurant for the distance to amenities New Denver Siding – The farmlands for its low zombie count and delicious well Afterwards I get a firearm and go around the outside of my safehouse, shooting rounds to draw the zombies towards me, and away from my house down the street. After that, I double back in a large circle so the zombies lose interest as go back to my (now safer) safehouse.
Are there any little incidental details in the map that only a New Denver resident would notice?
One of the main details to be added is a blinking red and yellow stoplight above the Main Street intersection, but others that I still would like to do is put in signs for the businesses based off of their real names. So that would be Berryhill Foods, Shangri-La Inn, or Loki’s Pub. Locals would know which stores I’m talking about!
I think that the Project Zomboid community as a whole has been very moved by your decision to dedicate the New Denver map to the memory of some of your friends – Skye Donnet, Jule Wiltshire-Padfield, Hayden Kyle and Lily Harmer-Taylor. If you don’t mind, could you possibly talk us through that decision, and the events leading up to it?
Before May I was still working on the map, just nowhere near as much. When I was working on it, my friends would see the work I did and were just as excited as me.
I don’t really remember too much of May 9th in particular, because of a catatonia, but within the next couple of days I knew I had to dedicate the map to them – to carve their names into the cyber stone if you will.
It took me a few weeks to start working on the map again, but when I did, the thought of my friends kept me motivated to continue, that and constantly telling myself “When the map is finished, not if.”
What do you think is next? Are you all mapped out now, or will you have other projects in future?
At the moment I’m going to continue updating and fixing up New Denver, but I do have some ideas for the future. One is an expansion to New Denver, another is a desert themed town… but I’m not quite sure yet. I may try to join a map project that’s already on the go.
After doing New Denver, I’ve learned to love the process of creating the buildings in-game. You can and will expect more from me soon enough!
Is there anything else that you’d like to tell the Project Zomboid community? You have the mic!
Thanks again to everybody for their condolences and support following the release of the map, and remember this mantra when your working on your own projects: “It’s not if your map gets released, it’s when it gets released.”
Also, come to New Denver and retrace some of those steps you did in Zomboid, how many times can you say you`ve done that!?

If you’d like to play Jamie’s New Denver map then check out his thread on the forum, while it’s also now a part of Blindcoder’s Map Project  and if YouTube is your poison then check out the time that Man Bear Pig explored this amazing part of British Columbia.

Back when my line of work was a lot more journalist-y I’d do a lot of interviews with Executive Producers, Senior Marketing Vice Presidents and all other manner of other glorified mouth-pieces for the big publishers. Whenever they brought out the old “of course, we’re doing this for the community – they’re who matter!” line I’d start to roll my eyes. I wouldn’t stop rolling them until I’d asked my killer ‘DLC plans?’ question.

I don’t want to be like that guy – the guy who talks about the value of a game’s community without once visiting it, and praises it as a part of some bullshit boardroom checklist.

Without Project Zomboid’s community (without you - the person reading this – whether you’re a lurker or a regular) times could’ve been so much darker. We owe you a ‘thank you’ so massive it’s almost impossible to deliver. Your testing, your enthusiasm, your friendship, your shared passion for the game… it means more than I can convey in a simple forum post.

I’m not going to whitewash the bad stuff. Two years ago TIS self-inflicted some wounds from which it took an age to recover and gave ruffians ample room to play, and I know that the fabled ‘winter of no content’ was tough on us all. (I don’t think we ever answered the question of what constitutes a ‘white knight’ and what constitutes a ‘troll’, but we certainly seemed to get closer to the answer than most…)

So, before the Steam Early Access launch potentially stirs things up, I wanted to say thank you. To our moderators, to our regulars, to our lurkers, to our critics, to our fans, to those who dip in and out… everyone. Thanks for giving a shit about our zombie game.

Speaking on behalf of all of the Indie Stone, all of our contributors and anyone else who’ve found themselves strapped onto this rollercoaster for the past couple of years – it wouldn’t have been the same without you, and it’s entirely possible that it couldn’t have happened at all.

We’re really appreciative, and we’ll always do our best to do right by you – however we can.

Added translations for most of "House In The Woods 2" challenge. Fixed "Trousers" not being translated in character creation. Fixed exception with shirtless Last Stand players. Added server commandline option "-port" which overrides the .ini option "DefaultPort". (Issue #001578) Fixed NullPointException when opening doors when there was no square on the other side. Fixed map corruption in multiplayer caused by reading + writing the same file from different threads. (Issue #001486)

It made me remember this old movie set in a post-apocalyptic world where a group of survivors was living in an apartment building growing plants and different kind of grass on the roof... and they had to do this world-saving trip just to bring seeds where the ground was still "alive".
