  1. That's the one. Odd how it just stays there, no matter what...
  2. I was able to log in with a different name, but my old name is still on the list. Don't know how the character is still alive, but me logging in and out with a new one didn't seem to dislodge him either.
  3. Looks like my character got stuck on the server. The game froze when I tried to log out, now I can't reconnect. It says "User already connected". It has been like this for about 15 minutes... I thought it would time out, but no. I'm worried about what will become of my character if it still appears to be in game :/
  4. Great server, nice people, been playing here for a few days. It seems to be down at the moment, though.
  5. Played on here the last 2 days, met some nice people, had a great time overall. Recommended.
  6. Ah, so this is what duct tape will be for! I have been hoarding it, along with rope (which remains a mystery, but looks very useful). I'm excited for this new build!
  7. Darkness is fixed, now my save loads with proper lighting. Mouse zoom seems to work too. Will test more thoroughly later. Edit: Played 2 minutes and the game froze like in the first steam build (task not responding). I was just walking down the street :/
  8. It works for me. You can use the "Special BBCode" button in the editor (3rd button from the left in the top row) to insert the tags. Or just type spoiler and /spoiler in square brackets.
  9. I wanted to go in and get a screenshot of buildings blocking the view on the low graphics setting, but now I'm getting an utterly dark environment when I load up my save, similar to others who have posted before me: I can move around and stuff, but there seems to be no light in the world. That is indeed game-breaking. I had a great fort, a nice farm, tons of supplies and a buffed up character that has survived for over 2 months... I don't want to lose this save Edit: I can move, but I can't seem to perform any action or move items around in my inventory. So it's not just the lighting, unfortunately. This is under Win7, 4GB RAM, Radeon 5770. I haven't had this problem in any of the previous versions.
  10. I like all these food ideas. The spawns will be tweaked, I'm sure.
  11. Hahah, yes, that is one hell of a snack... And when your cooking skill improves, it goes even higher. I remember -250-ish the last time I made it Yes! I was just going to add this to the slow map reveal comment. When I turn down the graphics (G button), the map reveal is faster but the buildings' upper floors don't disappear properly and I seem to run on the roof while passing behind them. It's really confusing. I was being chased by a horde, ran into the NW warehouse, lost them and slept up on the roof, but I could only do this because I remembered the layout of the bottom 2 floors and could run up the stairs blind. I hope this gets fixed, otherwise I need to choose between super slow map reveal and vision blocking buildings True, but now it gives you the contents of the crate (which can be planks), so you can employ a "smash first, look later" policy. I think you can also use the sledge to knock down trees. Lemmy says we should try to figure it out, as if we were new players. It took me a while, but it seems alright. Now I can pretty much strafe circles around the zombies as I blast them with the shotgun
  12. I have experienced something similar (under Win7). It starts off all bright for a second before going back to the usual "all dark, need to look around to lift fog" business.
  13. Something similar is happening with the guns. I'm getting double, and maybe even triple shots sometimes, with a single left click. They drop a bunch of zombies, but they can also be wasteful.
  14. Excellent! Guns seem to have a pretty good chance of killing a zombie on the first hit now. I'm using the same controls as before, it seems to work fine. Maybe sneaking is no longer required? Not sure. I've also turned multi-core back on to see how the crashes are. Edit: No crashes so far, but the performance seems to have dropped significantly. I'm often running in blackness because the map cells stream in verrry slowly. I have to wait for them to load in, even if I just walk. The movement stops and starts too (but doesn't freeze indefinitely, like before). This is at 720p resolution, under Win7, quad cores running at 3GHz (and heavy load), 4GB RAM, 1GB Radeon 5770. The previous builds ran a lot more smoothly. Edit2: Got a crash after all. Same as in the previous steam build. Running around, screen freezes, task not responding. I could play a lot longer than in the previous Steam version though. Edit3: I managed to add a multi-story sheet-rope to a crafted window, but can't seem to do the same with another crafted window that has crafted floor / ceiling underneath (1 level down). Is that normal? Ropes can only go down to the ground?
  15. I always thought that the frying pan was of very little use in the game as a cooking utensil. The only thing I've ever made in it was a grilled cheese sandwich (which I still had to cook in an oven afterwards, to achieve maximum nutrition). There may be other recipes that use it, but I think I haven't even been able to make an omelet with it. :/ The same goes for the roasting pan. We need more options with these items. The frying pan could be used more flexibly, as mentioned above. I personally would like the "less chance to burn your food" thing, as well as the faster cooking of smaller portions of food. These could be compensated by a higher risk of fire, if left cooking for too long (which would be realistic).
  16. I would like to be able to find at least local area maps, which I think every town-sized settlement has several types of readily available, primarily for tourist. If the zombie apocalypse hit while I was on the road, a local map would be one of the first things I'd get. If it hit while I was at home, I'd grab / print one to keep track of my neighborhood. As it is now, I'm using a drawn map of the gameworld, marking POIs to keep track of my loot runs, stashes and targets. I don't see why my character couldn't do the same once he has a map of the area, or even just pen and paper.
  17. Because you have no other option and you want / need to build a fire? Desperate times and such. Besides, almost anyone could light a fire with the help of some gasoline (and build it up enough to burn scavenged wood), even in wet conditions. Most cheap lighters can't be refilled and even the ones that can are not designed to let you pour the liquid out. Sure, you can break the lighter, but then it's a single-use firestarter. This could be more wasteful than using a reasonable amount of gas from a can. Proper lighters are more rare and have an uncertain amount of fluid in them (probably 0 when new). Item spawns in the game are designed to be challenging. Matches and lighters are kind of rare and don't spawn by the dozens, which is as intended. Gas is extremely rare right now, but that is likely to change (especially when vehicles are put in).
  18. 1. Flashlights exist and work fine in the latest build 2-3. The UI has bugs and is not final. I suggest you bring up both the container window and you inventory window when looting, to make things easier. 4. Exhaustion is realistic and tweaked by perks and personal condition. You can smash 2-3 zombie heads with a good melee weapon without too much exertion, but you can't expect to beat down a horde by yourself. The sledgehammer is extremely heavy and powerful so it exhausts you quickly. Hunger might be tweaked further, but is reasonable at the moment (you can go at least 2-3 days without food without dropping below "hungry"). I think there should be 4 levels of positive food level (slightly fed, fed, well fed and very well fed). The benefits don't seem to stack at the moment, that is a bug. It will be fixed. 5. Weight is fine. Your standard limit is 8 (carried in your hands), but you can temporarily overload it up to 50. Use bags to reduce your burden when traveling. You can carry 2 fully loaded large bags + a weapon, water, pills, clothes and a snack without being overloaded. 6. In the latest builds you need to equip the bags on your character (back or hand) to have it appear in the inventory window and be able to see their contents. Practically you can carry 1 bag on your back and 1 in your secondary slot (hand), leaving your main slot (hand) open for a weapon. This system works quite well. The only bug in the current build (16) is that the bag on your back becomes unquipped after loading a save game and you have to equip it again. This is said to be fixed in build 17. 7. There will probably be some kind of map eventually, but probably not the GPS-like minimap that you see in most games (which shows you where you are). This is for increased challenge and realism.
  19. Good idea, I approve. Make skill books unlock crafting recipes (corresponding to their type and difficulty) to show people what they need to make X, without "cheating" by looking up recipes outside the game. And yes, make very basic recipes (e.g. cheese sandwich) known to the player from the start. We should also keep the current "show it when you have all the ingredients" system, so that recipes can be figured out by experimentation. It seems realistic to me that you manage to make a decent soup or figure out how to craft a makeshift tent if you have the ingredients and try.
  20. That is pretty much the campfire kit now: pieces of wood + paper/cloth. They could rename this to kindling, and the kindling to firestarter or something, but that's just semantics. The components you need to make a fire are sensible, with the exception of the - currently rare - screwdriver and gas. It just needs a bit of tweaking: more common screwdrivers and/or other options to drill wood + more common gas and/or using a small amount of gas to light a fire instead of a full can. Using gasoline seems like a realistic option for me. If you were trying to start a fire outdoors, during or after rain, you would have a very hard time with kindling and wood found lying around. Even pro survivalists with flint and steel would fail in bad conditions, an average Joe would be hopeless. Using gas - even a small amount - means sacrificing a scarce resource (that could also power a vehicle or a generator later on) in order to get warm / cook your food. If you were out in the wild in harsh weather, cold, hungry and miserable after failing to start a fire with a traditional fire kit for hours, you would resort to using gas too (given the option).
  21. They simply get up after a while. I've seen the empty blood-splattered fields and thought they had disappeared, but then I ran into suspiciously large hordes nearby. Then one time I finally saw them getting back up after lying around for a good long while (I went back just at the right time, I suppose).
  22. You can kill (weakened) walkers with a melee, but they only seem to die from gunshots when they are on the ground (lying down or crawling). Shooting walkers gives you blood splatters and XP, but no corpses. Here's my bug report on this issue.
  23. True, kindling is a bit hard to make, because you need a screwdriver. On the other hand, you can reuse it many times to light your fire, which is good. A flint and steel would be similarly handy and I think it's already in the game in some form, just not used at the moment. Gas is super rare and heavy, so it's almost a non-option.
  24. Ohmygosh! You stab humans with kitchen knives too? Only when they are asking for it, which is often. Edit: but my kitchen knives are pretty dull, so it's more like a poke.
