  1. I never say that it can't be done just it's hard to do by regular person without proper knowledge. I also don't see point in remind of native americans and their bows, of course they had very good bows and they were very good archers but we talk about what regular person could do not someone who was using bow at age 5 or even earlier also this goes with making bows. My point is that regular person can't make very effective bow and you can just try by yourself if you don't belive me. Also this discussion is not a matter of death and life, we just talk about suggestions in a game, so chill out a bit maybe.
  2. I didn't know so many of my suggestions were suggested before, thanks for info. I know about log walls obviously but a log cabin is something different, you can't build a house from logs for now in game, you can't do a window frame and a roof etc. ( I fixed link in my first post so you can see what's i'm talking about). 7. Now you can destroy wall with axe and then you have undamaged planks + nails, when you destroy wooden wall with sledgehammer it just magically disappear. It's not realistic and logical. It should be something like this(wooden wall for example): Dismantling with hammer = undamaged planks + nails Destryoing with axe = damaged planks, 0 nails Destroying with sledgehammer = damaged planks, 0 nails 13. I know that it's doable to remove grass but it can't be done to clear ground ( just dirt) but to just less grass and it don't do such a difference for fire and putting sand on grass is kind of unlogical and unnecessary when i want just a clear ground and don't have sand bags. Would be nice to hear some opinions on moats and climbing trees.
  3. So with planned generators there should be options to get gasoline from gas stations but only when power is on when it's off you can only get gasoline from containers. Also you could fill containers such as a bucket, watering can etc with gasoline. With these changes gas station will be very good location to loot, also with planned npc it will be dangerous.
  4. Well it's easy to make something that's looking similar to a bow but with that "bow" you wouldn't be able to kill zombie or human or even small animal, with such a bow you could go melee and it will be better and more effective than shooting and that's what i'm talking about - it's not easy to properly make a effective bow.
  5. Maybe I exaggerated a little bit. Just making bows harder to use/learn will be good also crafting bows and arrows should be hard and at low levels of carpentry it will be quite weak weapon.
  6. Well i think there is a little problem with all that discussion. Firstly floating base is simple exploit in current state of game and obviously at some point it will be removed. Just like CaptKaspar said: That system will be added, only question is when. So there is no reason to discuss about it, if someone want to play in this way he can go also with normal cheats. The game is in alpha now so there are things like this which wait to be solved later, normal thing. Just don't use it and wait till it will be solved by devs but you want to balance things out by adding flying zombies (sarcasm). Zombies shouldn't climb ropes, it doesn't have any sense because of many reasons which were said in this topic.
  7. Very good idea, it will be nice and realistic to make that sort of non perishable food especially when winter is coming and you can't farm or for long trips when all non perishable food which can't be crafted (like chips etc.) is gone. Also really like your pictures, they are matching perfectly the graphic style of the game. Also when we talk about jams then it should be options to create a vegatble version of jam (sorry i don't know how you call them in english) but it will require vinegar(which is already in game) instead of water. Edit: You forget in your recipes about sugar. It's essentialy ingredient of jam, because it acts as a preservative. For sake of facts sugar can be avoided but it will make whole process much more complicated and harder (so it should be avaible at max level of cooking). Also i don't really know why you put lemon in every recipe ,it's not needed for a jam.
  8. Well, nobody would drink too much water to die. It could be add that if character is at 100% hydration you couldn't drink more from any objects but it's more domestic change and not really needed.
  9. Well of course floated base is basicaly exploit and will be removed in future builds. I said that even best most secure base can be destroyed by zombies (of course not floating base) but it destroyed just by zombies pushing walls with their bodies they don't jump, fly, dismantle your walls with hammer, they can't do such a things. They barely can climb through windows and fences and that is all they can do. Their motility is at very low level, they can perform most basic stuff which shouldn't include climbing up fences. In every movie about zombie i watched there was no climbing ropes zombies. It would look just stupid and unlogical. Climbing ropes require good coordination of movements and that's not something that zombies are good at.
  10. It will be good idea to make two zombie behaviors like you said Onkeen or even more types of behaviors. Also what bumblemore said: space the horde members out a bit because now it's like one big mass without free spaces.
  11. Well need of skill book will be somehow realistic or trait like "archer" to even start using bows . Maybe just make difference beetwen crossbows and bows: bows are harder to use / harder to learn and learning how to use bow only by yourself is kinda hard and very slow process in RL.
  12. Well i have some experience with bows also i have some knowledge about making bows and arrows. Firstly if you compare bows to pistols it's clear that shooting&aiming with pistols is very easy compared to bows. Untrained person could just hurt themselves while try to shoot a bow, with pistols you just need one click and it's all but with bow is different story. But ok, using bows don't will be so bad if implemented but making bows&arrow will definitly be terrible idea. Crossbows should be enough for game and for player it dosen't make any difference( bow or crossbow) but it do the difference when we talk about reality in game.
  13. Well i thought by floating base you mean base without doors etc. only ropes (also you could explain what is this because i don't know exactly what you mean) and no disrespect for americans but normal person without being overweight and with normal physical activity is capable of climbing ropes easily also climbing down is easier than climbing up obviously. Zombie's brain is not reduced to animal level nor to toddlers level. Animals are clever, they have very good memory and etc. Zombies have 1 instinct - eat humans and they can't perform so simple actions like opening a door also they can't learn anything and they have very bad short memory. Furthermore their bodies are rotted so even when they could climb ropes they would fall apart if they tried so zombies climbing ropes is unlogical and stupid idea. And this game is based on reality and this is goal of devs also and like in real world there are things better that others and also very good things so nerfing something only because it's too strong is stupid and unlogical.
  14. So the thing is that archery is complicated and you need a large amount of training to be able to shoot properly and with some accuracy and making bows and arrows is very complicated and normal person without any knowledge can't do that or bow created by such a person will be as good as stick to fight zombies in melee. So with devs opinion that player is normal person bows and arrows shouldn't be in game. Crossbow is another story, it's simple and basically everyone can use them without special training with good results but again making bolts is too complicated so you can only retrieve fired bolts from zombies/humans (most bolts used by crossbows are made of metal so they are quite durable and can be used for long time).
  15. @tjbiel Meat can be replaced by vegatables like gorch, bean, soy, nuts. There are also microelements besides vitamins but in-game system should be pretty simple and not 100% accurate with real world. Besides that meat is very hard to obtain in game even with implemented hunting it will be hard so it will be not so good to force player to eat meat.
  16. I'm totally agree with CaptKaspar. Adding such a randomness to game will be very bad move, making it very annoying for players. Edit: Zombies can't climb ropes, it will be unlogical and probably in coflict with lore game is based of. Zombies can't perform such complicated moves. Also you can't look at that game and say:"that's too op, that's too strong", things should be realistic(and that's the goal of devs i think) and base where only entrance is through rope is just good idea not too op base and dosen't need nerfs also zombies can just destroy walls when in groups so no base is too secure ever.
  17. Good, realistic idea especially in multiplayer (rp servers). Will be also good to make mass graves also like Anderson Jaeger said.
  18. Good suggestion, just like in real life (if blood is enough to get zombie infection, i'm not sure).
  19. I already wrote about idea of herbalism (and poisoned food) in my topic(http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/13207-my-list-of-ideas-tunnels-herbalism-moats-and-much-more/) earlier so i like that idea but it should be new skill not first aid. Also it should require a book or trait to start. Character shouldn't be able to start herbalism without any knowledge about it.
  20. Well, idea is not so bad to categorize food value in 3 categories protein, calorie and vitamin but force player to eat meat because it's best kind of food doesn't have any sense. Alse from science point of viev humans don't need meats in diet, furthermore meat is kinda bad for us (but of course not so much deal in zombie apocalypse). Also humans don't need so much proteins in diet (most people eat way too much proteins). Only good thing in meat is that if you eat it you don't be hungry so quickly and that should be represented in game. Also values of vegetables are very different. You can't compare for example potato to radish, it doesn't make any sense. But overall i like your idea, you can't eat chips 2 month and be perfectly fine but let's keep it simple, too compliceted system would be bad for game experience. Sorry for my english, im not soo god at it
  21. Hi, I started playing Project Zomboid a few weeks ago and im totally amazed, the game is very good despite being in early acess and i just want to throw some ideas/suggestions of mine. I read the suggestions which were already on the forum so nothing should repeat hopefully. I'm not best at english but i hope you will understand me. 1. Ability to make tunnels and undeground hideout will require wooden planks, nails, hammer, trowel (shovel too big to digging up tunnel) and carpentry lvl 5 maybe? (in new system with 1-10lvl) + a lot of time reason: tunnels are not dark magic, a normal person can easily do this with some knowledge and tools and it's great way to have that plan B when for example your house is surrounded by a horde of zombies. Underground hideout is also very good to be place for storage valuable things or to hide from humans / to have very safe place to sleep Also it could work as basement as it will be great for storage for example potatoes ( they need dark, cool place and they can remain fresh very very long and that should be also in game, potatoes = very good food even in winter when you can't farming) Sewers and basements are planned in game so why not self made tunnels? picture: 2. Ability to make a pit trap to catch animals, zombies, humans require shovel, sticks and leaves to cover 3. Climbing trees to look around at bigger distance (also to avoid animals maybe like wolfs etc. in future builds with animals) 4. Moats You can make moat with shovel and a lake or river, also you can make a small bridge. Require shovel, river or lake and a lot of time. Picture: reason: simple but very good way to keep zombies away from your base, you don't need any special knowledge = every normal person can do this with just a shovel and hard work 5. Wire+some trash(like cans etc) attached to trees would make alarm system, good when sleeping in forest / open area, instead of attaching to tress could also be made with sticks. When zombies approach wires it will create a huge noise able to wake up character (like in TWD tv series) 6. Hiding in closets, under a bed to avoid zombie or human/npc 7. Difference between destruction and dismantling wooden structures For example: if you destroy wooden wall with axe you only get destroyed wooden planks which can be used only as fuel in campfire but if you dismantle wooden wall you get normal wooden planks and nails. Dismantling will take longer than destroying also will require carpentry skill ( for example: lvl 3 wall can be properly dismantled by someone with carpentry lvl 3) 8. You can get mattres from beds (now only way to get mattres is to craft one, not so realistic with all these beds right?) 9. You can use stove to cook and to keep your house warm (kinda stupid with that stove to get outside in rain to cook something) picture: 10. Climbing on wooden boxes and furniture in buildings (for example climbing on wooden boxes in warehouse and then make a bed there for safety! ) 11. Herbalism Supplies of medicines are not infinite and you still need something to get rid of cold or heals burns more quickly etc. Will require a herbalism book to start or trait (or both) 12. More difficult foraging because without any knowledge you can pick up something poisonous and get sick/die (best example: mushrooms) and at that moment foraging is very easy way to keep your character away from starving also should require some trait or book to have knowledge what is good/bad for your health. 13. Ability to remove completly grass with shovel/trowel to get only clean ground to prevent spreading fires. 14. With max lvl of carpentry ability to build a log cabin (something like in this link: http://www.mungosaysbah.com/2006/11/build-log-cabin-alone-in-wilderness.html ) because such a safehouse is much stronger than cabins with just wooden planks also it's easier to keep warm and it's not so hard to do 15. Normal books should also have a lot of pages and requires a lot of time to read (random generator of pages, for example beetwen 200-400) to help survive these long, cold winter nights. reason: realism, normal books have the same amount of pages as gardening etc. books. also normal books could give some random intresting facts, little skills like in real life when for example you read Karol May's books (German writer, noted mainly for adventure novels set in the American Old West if someone don't know him) you could learn something useful to survive in wilderness. That's all for now but i will probably update topic with new ideas in couple of days. Also great thanks to devs for this really great game. Feel free to discuss and sorry for my english
