Very small touch, but I really like the sound of it. I'm not into roleplay myself, but I can see it being especially cool for that sort of thing.

Glad you asked. Right now I'm animating different animations for the dog over 60 frames in Maya, then setting it to specific intervals to then render each image. Put simply, we're currently using sprites that are made from 3d models. I actually have a camera that looks down on the model from an orthographic view that matches the isometric perspective in the game, which I then rotate by 45 degrees each time to get the next direction (North, North East, East, etc.).
The fact that I'm doing this in 3d and converting the results into sprites means that it looks pretty damn close to the original style of the game (which I think is awesome!) but it also means that a single frame of animation requires 9 individually rendered images that I then have to scale down manually and refine before finally saving, naming properly and uploading them. It's very tedious, but I think it's worth it.
This way, of course, isn't the ideal way of doing things, but it definitely works for now. If we ever get custom models with animations working in-game, everything I've made so far has actually been rigged and animated, so I don't see why we wouldn't be able to throw it in without much effort if such a thing was possible in the future. Hopefully that clears that up!
(Also, if you were asking more specifically about the coding aspects, I'm sorry, I'm just the artist )

And a WIP look at the environment itself.

Finally, here's my Artstation in case anyone wants to follow the 3D work I do. Keep up the good work everyone!

I can supply a rigged dog in the style of Project Zomboid, totally coincidental. I made it for an animation project that I'm actually still working on for college, but I'll happily share it out.

I already posted this in the General Creativity thread, but people don't often check there.

Also, ignore the stand. That's for presentation purposes. It's a Border Collie (duh) and I also have a Golden Labrador variant. I remember seeing Fuji messing around with making sprites from 3D models, something I've wanted to try for quite some time. If he's willing, I'll give him this and perhaps we could make some sprites for you to use!

    Update:

Not quite sure how long it will take to properly export animation data, but I have been working to get there for a few days.

Once animations and skeletons can be exported, then work can begin on tidying up the scripts, and forming a plug-in around them, as to make things easier.

Haven't posted here in a while. I'm working on a new game inspired by xcom. Very little gameplay to show off as I am still trying to figure out the basic engine stuff.

Thanks to Wolfeclaw, I now have a reference model that is entirely custom to reference when working on exporting custom models for Project Zomboid.

I'm working on a rig that mimicks the name formatting of the Bipedal rig used for Bob and Kate.

I'll try to keep this 'update' relatively short.

So after MisterInSayne's last post, he sorta just dropped off the radar and we never really talked about the mod, or at all. Despite this, he does still appear online on Steam, so I'll ask him about things when he's next on, provided I can catch him.

In terms of the mod, there have been no additional updates, information or even planning in the background, so everything discussed and revealed by InSayne and myself in this thread is everything that makes up the current build of the Companion mod. It's a shame, honestly, however I've had a reason for not continuing my work on the mod's assets.

I'm currently 18 and in college studying Games Development, something that I take pretty seriously. Put simply, I'm dedicating as much time as I can in order to receive the highest possible marks on the course, all the while ensuring my portfolio is done to a professional quality in preparation for University (which is coming up very soon). It wouldn't be as bad if I wasn't so intent on maxing out my grades in college, but I've almost done it so to stop giving 110% now would just be silly. Lots of work, no time for modding. The time that I do have free is put towards modelling and texturing more game-ready 3D assets that can act as additional content for my portfolio, which once again, I deem a tad more important over modding.

Despite this, I do have a practical unit on my course that is coming up at some point (Estimated around March or April) that involves people working together on a modification for an actual game. I'm still debating with myself on whether or not to return to PZ modding when this comes around, so we'll see how that turns out. Modding for PZ and getting graded for it is a win-win situation, however realistically something more challenging would benefit me in the long run. We'll see.

I'm going to go on a whim and say that the mod is NOT dead, but the chances of it being continued are slim to none. Worst case scenario is that I give out all of my assets and hope that it can be used by the community in some way, shape or form, similar to what I did with my 3D Models thread.

I'm a bit late, but I hope you all had a happy new year with fun times and such! I'll pop back in every now and then, it's hard to stay away from such a great community and development team.

It's been a while, have some random stuff I've been working on.

    From top to bottom:
A small scene thrown together to test a low resolution pixel art style - Soon to be an animation project for college Multiple Border Collie poses - First attempts at rigging, went pretty well PBR Trash Bin - Refining my Physically-Based Rendering workflow, brushed metal was fun and the model itself was simplistic enough. A phone based on the Nokia 3310 - Fan art for Project Reality, hence 'REKIA' instead of 'NOKIA' An unfinished IED, first attempt at PBR.

Put simply, nothing new animal-wise too soon, but I'll try. You'll have to bear with me.
