  1. Just wanted to update that if you have a certain special character in your Steam password, the script will fail. Also, if the machine doesn't have enough RAM to satisfy the default allocation of 4gb in projectzomboid-dedi-server.sh, the script will still report that the server is starting even though it never actually does.
  2. Thanks Enigma, that got it working. Unfortunately I hit the same deadend as tobiushirogeri: Infinite waiting time, the client never actually gets into the server. This is what's in the client console: I'll attempt it on an Amazon AWS EC2 instance and report back. Edit: It works on Amazon AWS EC2.
  3. How did you get the server to run?     Stuttering

    What's your hard drive? Next time you run the game, could you please do this: Set Project Zomboid to windowed mode Open up Task Manager, click "More Details" at the bottom, and go to the "Performance" tab Keep an eye on the disk usage of whichever hard drive your PZ savegame data folder is (By default, it's C:/Users/<username/Zomboid) See if the disk usage approaches 100% at the same time the stuttering happens in PZ I used to have stuttering lag on my very capable gaming machine. It turns out there's a problem with my hard drive (see my thread here). Creating a symlink to the Zomboid folder moved to my SSD instead fixed the problem, though this is only temporary until I replace my hard drive.

They haven't increased or decreased since installation, so I'm guessing it's a manufacturing issue that hasn't caused any additional problems. Solved: I moved the Zomboid folder from /user/Zomboid to my SSD, created a symlink from it to the original location, and the game now works without stuttering or lag. This is only a stopgap solution until I replace my dying hard drive.
  6. Mine is from 2012 as well, November specifically. I use HDD Scan to run SMART tests. Here's the result from my latest scan: I'm not sure how much of an issue those two yellow triangles are, but aside from PZ and a couple of other games (Gauntlet, 7 Days to Die) the hard drive functions just fine. This is the specific hard drive I'm using. It seems to be a cause for several other cases of 100% disk usage based on my Google-fu. For the record, I have attempted some popular recommendations known to alleviate spontaneous 100% disk usage including disabling Windows indexing and superfetch. Those efforts were in vain. However, further searching led me to this post on WD's official forum which suggests the issue is that the drive drops from DMA mode to PIO mode for reasons. I'll try this out when I get back home and respond with the results.
  7. Hi, I use a WD Green drive to store all my games and it seems that Project Zomboid in particular doesn't play well with it. I experience heavy stuttering 5-10 minutes into gameplay, and according to Task Manager, it's because my HDD is stuck processing read/write requests - literally stuck on 100% activity while PZ is running, particularly when I'm loading unexplored areas of the map. I moved the PZ installation to my Samsung Evo 830 SSD, but that didn't help; my WD was still bottlenecking, presumably because the game is constantly writing to the save file in Users/<user>/Zomboid which is also on my WD Green. The temporary solution appears to be to not use a "green" drive, which is known to cause issues with games and gaming. However, I would appreciate it if in a future update you gave players the option to change the location of their savegame data, or if you could find a way to reduce the amount of small read/writes needed to eliminate the issue entirely.
