  1. I was unaware thats all it was referring to and I apologize. I just want to be able to reduce my visibility (as in how visible I am, not how well I can see) in vanilla. but back to reality, dem industrial zones north of WP would make some sexy bases...
  2. Yup, trapping living people is a whole different game, especially if they have experience trapping which they may be more likely to after the apocalypse. You would definitely have to 'ghillie-suit' your pits, and thats probably the only trap I would use against people. I'd be coming up with stuff so complex it couldnt be built People are definitely the hardest part about the apocalypse.
  3. i hate that response. Yes covering yourself in zombie guts is a stupid idea however thats not the only camo. (do something more than just watch the walking dead tv show please) and you can take safety precautions to prevent infection. doctors dont perform surgery naked. they dont research diseases naked. latex exists you know. and with Romero zombies everyone's infected anyways so infection isnt even an issue. Melee combat covers you in zombie blood and guts anyways. Getting infected from hitting a zombie in the head with a baseball bat isnt a concern at all but zombie camo = 100% infection? Not all camo techniques use zombie parts either which translates to a 0% chance of infection. Theres a boat load of camo techniques that would have varying effects on people and zombies. Turning your house/base into a house of mirrors, for instance, is a decent one because I highly doubt a zombie could differentiate between you and your reflection.
  4. ^its not. I also forgot to add that the industrial zones on the way to Louisville would be really cool locations as well!
  5. I really really think the devs need to reconsider the zombie camo and do a little research on the different kinds. Also Im guessing this is commonly suggested as well but i didnt see it on the list... FORT KNOX! its just down the road from Muldraugh and I wanna try to talk my way in with who ever lives there
  6. Traps dont just kill or hurt things. MOST traps TRAP things. Encase them in a cage or stop them from going places in someway. Most traps designed for zombies (especially if they can only be killed by destroying the brain) would be designed to immobilize them so that you can get close enough to destroy the brain without getting bit. Simple things like wooden lances sticking out of the ground at an angle like this Or pits with or with out spikes at the bottom are both good (with pits you just drop large rocks down or set the pit aflame as getting in would be dangerous) Bear traps are good too and depending on the decomposition of the body will either immobilize or mame (if the bear trap is fixed) and the nail boards could be pretty decent too again depending on what settings your game is set to (everybody seems to forget this game has a plethora of variables). A zombie could step on it and leave their whole foot behind on it I notice a lot of trap suggestions are rather complex when its usually best to stick with the simple especially if what your trapping has almost no intelligence and cant figure it out.
  7. Hey, Tommy. Just tested it out and although it seems to be working on version 29.4 (I ran to the police station and found some ammo boxes but no guns before getting eaten ) it doesnt seem to work on the IWBUMS branch. Containers and corpses wont show up in the loot window and on top of that things like shelves and bookcases look empty in the game world. Just thought I'd let ya know. Dont know if thats something you can fix or if it will fix itself when version 30 is stable. Also I wasnt aware they added rifles into vanilla lol
  8. Hey guys one more question for ya if i want to put a mod on my server what do i type in the "mod" line? Would I type the name of the folder of the mod? For example if i want the "TommyGuns" mod which is a folder called "TommyGuns" should my mod line look like this: "Mods=TommyGuns" ? Thanks again for all your help!
  9. Thanks Tommy!!! havent gotten around to testing it yet, but from your original gun mod im sure it will be awesome! Dont stress yourself out over the bow, i just thought it might be kinda neat Again really appreciate the mod! Your first mod was great, its just I usually have my loot spawns more on the common side and after a while my bases would look like military stockpiles which to me is a little uneccessary untill we get NPCs, than I'll be switching right back to your mod! Also I was looking at your 'editing textures' topic and think it would be great to see some new textures soon so I wish you all the best with that, sir!
  10. I know there are a lot of gun mods out there already but they all seem to add sooo much stuff. I would like a more minimalist gun mod that only adds a few new things. Doesnt have to be a brand new mod but if somebody could grab some stuff from other mods for me I'd really appreciate it What I'd like: Guns Melee Weapon Attachments Other I believe you could get everything from the "Tommy Guns" mod but the only modding experence I have is installing and uninstalling them Any help I can get would be awesome! **EDIT** As for spawns and distribution I would like to see the assault rifle and its ammo quite rare everywhere except police stations. Same thing for the silencers and the backpack. If it's possible to make at least one of each spawn in the police stations that would be cool. Also I could probably edit the weapons I dont want out of the Tommy Guns mod's scripts file myself and give you the items list if needed but I am completely lost as far as spawns and distributions go. If there is anything else detail wise you need to know let me know.
  11. Thanks everybody! Very helpful!! One more thing about server resets tho, lets just say I did want to completely reset the server and clear all our data for a fresh start, is there a save file I should delete?
  12. I will probably delete this thread unless someone thinks its not too noobish to stay First off I'm having a little trouble with starting with items. So my "SpawnItems" line looks like this: "SpawnItems=Base.Axe, Base.BaseballBatNails, Base.Hammer," Except you only spawn with the axe. I also cant seem to locate any bags in the "media/scripts" folder under 'items' or 'new items'. Is it possible to start with a backpack or no? Next I was wondering if someone could quickly explain a soft and hard server reset for me, and how one goes about initiating them? Would a soft reset be along the lines of me typing "/reset" in the command prompt and a hard reset be closing the server cmd prompt window completely? Basically I'm just putting the server up for me and some RL friends to play on but I dont really wanna run the server while I'm at work and my shared internet connection gives out sometimes, so I wanna be sure that if I exit the server window or get disconnected from the internet our base wont disapear along with all our stuff and characters. Thanks for your help, and sorry Im not better at searching i tried, really!
  13. I also use this location a lot. (Ive been experimenting with all the settings so i die a lot ) Some tips for the long run if you use this space: Obviously build a wall just around the warehouse itself at first but later expand around the parking lot.Take advantage of the space! you mentioned the storage space but forgot to mention all the general space! a whole lot of both indoor and outdoor space. The parking lot is a great place to farm especially for a group in multiplayer and the roof is a great place to collect rain and farm in SP.Build a second floor. there isnt really anything except an office and catwalk for a second floor so youll need to build one unfortunately but there are plenty of windows to escape from.Really the biggest problems i have with this place are: The large horde you mentioned that gathers on the highway. It needs to be avoided or dealt with very carefully and you better hope it doesnt follow you home There is a fridge but no stove So in the early stages you still have to cook over a fire. I usually combat this by keeping all my food that needs to be cooked in the house closest to the warehouse (i also fortify and wall off the house) and do all my cooking there while i still have power. Building in gated communities like this is also a good idea. One thing that can be done if you can get the supplies is turn the rest of the neighborhood into basically a zombie maze/trap. Build walls around the other houses and if you are followed you can weave through the neighborhood and in and out of the houses and go back to clear them one at a time. I also really want to get to the mall and see how that plays out. There would be a lot of stores but also a lot of zombies. I think it could possibly be a really good location (most likely better for MP) if you can manage to either quarantine one section at a time or get to the roof from the south stairwell and live up there and work down. Who knows maybe it was closed when the apocalypse happened and theres only a couple janitor zombies inside
