I actually do this on my north-facing terrace when it's winter and my fridge is full (northern Italy). It works for about 4 or 5 months depending on weather.

Targeting color being green/red/orange cuts colour blind people out of this whole section of the game as we can't tell if its red or green.
Please add an option to change this, or add a different mechanism.
Blue is quite visible for me, but color blindness varies a lot so best option would be an alternative mechanism (e.g. a symbol over the target)
Next best if you want to stick with outlines is let people choose the colour (or from a selection e.g. red/green, blue/yellow etc)

Targeting is the main issue, but other (minor) improvements would be:
    2. the highlight on containers is not always clear depending on the base colour of the container.
    3. the map colours. a symbol to go with each colour would be useful. doesn't have to mean something, could just be a + - * ^ etc.

numbersixthecat reacted to CaptKaspar in Solar energy and Solar panels
It has certainly been discussed in the past here on the forums.

There's a few realistic challenges with solar in 1993:
Availability of solar panels: Back in 1993 solar was not common for residential, industrial, or commercial use. Solar was simply too expensive to be cost effective. Back in the early 90's you would expect the cost per watt was about $8.00 USD. Nowadays its around $3.00 USD. The one place that it was utilized frequently was with public works. Think of all those road signs alerting you to construction etc. So panels would need to be extremely rare and likely only available at a few locations on the map. They were also vastly less efficient than they are today, so don't expect to get much power from them. Appliances were also more power hungry back then than they are today. You would need a sizeable array just to run your fridge. Even iridescent lightbulbs were magnitudes more power hungry than modern LEDs lights. Finding a panel or two would not solve many problems for you. Maybe charging batteries over time would be a practical application?  Setting up a solar system sounds simple, but it requires a number of components. Solar panels create DC which would need to be converted to AC to be used by household appliances etc. So you would need inverters. You would also need a voltage regulator to ensure that you do not fry the electronics you intend to use. This isn't to say these couldn't be added to the game, but again they would be very rare in 1993. We have electrical professions, skill books, etc so its not unreasonable that a player character could learn to use them or even make them at a very high electrical skill.  Just like current times, solar only works during the day. It works on cloudy days, but at a significantly reduced rate. To be utilized around the clock a storage system would be needed. Even today in 2021 home storage systems are very expensive and rare. In 1993? They were non-existent. A bunch of car batteries could maybe be utilized to store power, but its unlikely you would be able to keep them charged without a significant array. A common 100ah 12v car battery could run a 100w light bulb continuously for about 6 hours if its discharged to about 50% (lead acid deep cycle batteries should never be discharged more than that to maintain the life of the battery). So you would need a huge array of solar panels to keep your huge array of batteries charged. This is a game and some liberties can be taken in place of realism, but honestly, its a bit of a stretch to expect to get much practical use out of them based on their efficiency in 1993 and the lack of efficiency in appliances/devices.

However, I think finding a panel or two to charge DC batteries (car and flashlights) overtime would be a reasonable application in this game. Powering your home with a few panels just isn't going to work. But with limited fuel supplies at gas stations now, maybe they could be added as a late-game thing to work towards.

We We we. Anyone spending 15$ or more spent it on the state the game was in at the time of purchase.
Yes people are disappointed that MP is not released yet. But everyone (should) have expected updates to take time. Not be finished by the time modding the game was getting boring.

To lie or just miss spread the notion of there being no constant updates and progression on the project is just wrong. Surprisingly off the side stuff is going on with PZ like vhs tapes and improved foraging systems, sound overhaul etc, none of it really expected to be worked on right now but they are being added to the builds. Even now 99% of the ones spending $15 was expecting multiplayer and not much else from there "backing" or rather buying a indie game from Steam.

To imply "no good constant updates" is just wrong. To not hold multi million studios selling broken AAA games to even half that standard, yet a game project doing what they are meant to do to that standard?

Cyberpunk76 is still after a year of "updates" still not even a candidate to be played. Still just a unfished joke. Even now it was meant to be the best RPG ever at launch.

PZ lacking a MP is not a big set back. Even now the hype was built just to be shut down by Indie stone themselves. That probably was the right thing to do. Looking at what a mess games being pushed out of development to early looks like should be good enough of evidence to that.

Really even now last year has been quite slow. I think if a shill pill is taken and the complementary additions to animations are added (3d loot and curved roads) the final stuff needing to be done is testing MP. Then the game is going to be in a launch off state where updates only improve game mechanics and expand into the big city.

Just curved roads and a do over of the map we already got is HUGE. 41.53 got small nice to have map changes to improve the world. There is a new bit of abounded village on the map that Indiestone do not even talk about. With road network having a do over and more map changes done to make traveling the map more appealing. Well... More reasons to explore and travel!  More 3d and cooler bases created the more time spent there.  And then MP added to make the experience shared or just to get some DayZ feel put into the world?? It is going to be worth the wait!

We get updates. Constant is a stretch but really multiplayer is only holding the single player back. Since no stable releases happen since MP is not out. Even now there is content for at least 2 stable releases all ready.  If multiplayer is forgotten about and a better communication about what is in the work was represented. Yea we would have about a update every 2 weeks. More or less. But due to multiplayer everything is halted. Just small projects on the side getting added into the builds.

And really $15 is nothing. No Man's Lie $60 with the backing of Sony on top of all the pre orders.
Fallout 76. $60 for a "brake it early" that did just that. Brake early. No fixes from the "test".  Just a early sign to jump ship and be sure Bethesda was totally going to launch the failure we believed it was going to be.

Should we go on? Rust, DayZ Standalone? Minecraft?? Robox? TF2? Overwatch?

Really only ones that have a right to complain are the ones that supported PZ back in 2013 days. 8 YEARS and first now do it look to work it's way out of early access. That is more or less a decade of hopelessness. More then 3 years of a stalled game development at least between 2014-2019.
Map changes and vehicles? That was PZ for almost 5 years.

To add to that, you can also try Linux. I use both os on a daily basis for work and I have to say that, for games that run natively, linux is typically much more efficient in terms of memory usage. On my laptop, 16gb of ram, the difference in stuttering for memory hungry applications is incredible between Ubuntu and Win10. You might have worse results for games that are heavily GPU-limited if you have an nvidia card, but that is not the case for PZ. Forget about using Wine, in this case it's rather inefficient.

In the most basic sense, garbage collection is a Java process that cleans up useless code to free memory for the program. In PZ this would come as playing for a few hours and having those microstutters for the collector to free up. But there's also times where it'd pause in the game as that process runs causing the stutters.

Not 100% correct but from PZ's optimization perspective that's the gist.

Key point: The new one being pause-less.

I apologize in advance for my English, it is not my first language.

My suggestion is a set of animations to open and close the door, so that the character has to take the knob to turn and open it slowly making less noise, with some doors creaking, or open quickly with more noise, to give more suspense than is behind her, i also feel that it is very easy to outwit zeds by making a horde enter a house and easily with a button to close them inside gaining a very easy time, as this would be a more challenging task.

I feel it would bring much more challenge and excitement to open each door.
