  1. Hi, guys. I haven't been playing since those huge square hordes started harrasing my survivor. Any updates?
  2. It's not about making it easy or playing Harvest Moon. It's about making it more logical and less magical.
  3. I cannot consider this a good decision, because there is no other way to preserve food in the game. I can't use salt to preserve vegetables, I cannot make jerky, I cannot use sugar to preserve fruits and berries, I cannot fish... Farming is buggy, and zombie spawning bugs make farming even more difficult. I hope it is still possible to edit items.txt and make soup non-perishable again.
  4. Actually, there is no need for food to be rotten to catch botulism. Usually people catch it by eating some home-made preserved food which was made without necessary precautions.
  5. Well, If it is a hunting air rifle -- then yes (unfortunately, we can't buy such rifles in Russia). But when most people say "air rifle", they usually mean just some air rifle for recreational shooting, so that's what I supposed.
  6. Air rifle is not better than nothing. It will not kill anyone, but it will add some weight. More weight = less speed, less stamina, less combat agility and more calories wasted, hence more food needed. I'd better pick some tools or food.
  7. I absolutely agree. I think that would be much better to just store cordinates instead of un-virtualizing a big horde. Also, I suspect there is a bug in the un-virtualizing procedure, because it spawns hordes in almost clean peaces of map.
  8. Same thing here. Cleared the whole road just to have it blocked by a huge square horde when I turned back and walked some small distance.
  9. It's not just uses more resources, it should prevent large square hordes from clogging all the space around the player (I just deleted my last save because there were 8 square hordes blocking all the passages around my warehouse. so tha save became unplayable). I don't think that storing 1000 pair of coordinates requires that much resources. Come on, my handheld GPS with a very slow CPU and very limited amount of RAM stores thousands POIs with coordinates and additional info, and it performs search (regarding my location) and shows everything on the map!
  10. Hello, Lemmy. I have some questions: 1. What happens when I wipe out all the zombies in the 10x10 chunk or lure them all out? Also, I have some suggestions: 1. Instead of merging zombies in a "virtual zombie" why don't just store their coordinates in a file? Here is a sketch of my idea: 2. When spawning zombies, please, check if the particular location is accessible for them, so zombies would not get spawned in the area which was cleared and fenced off by a player.
  11. Yes, it seems like there was streaming, but I am convinced those zombies did not exist in that area when I was observing it. I left the area and returned in seconds -- there was a lot more zombies than before: When I went to the parking space, the small group near the warehouse doors was the only zombie group there. The large square formation appeared when I came back ftom the parking space after killing 3 zombies.
  12. What is "being streamed"? How do I recognize if I was streamed of not? I'll try to make a video.
  13. 1. I am not painting anyone as a bully. 2. Not in front of me, but rather behind me. When I turn back and walk a couple of seconds -- a fresh square formation of zombies is awaiting. What kind of evidence would you accept?
  14. You told about some "grid"? Another interesting behaviour: zombies avoid that bright rectangle:
  15. Oh, by the way, I am playing the latest Steam version. Never experienced such things in Desura version.
  16. I am not hyperbolizing, here is what happened: 1. A group of 12-15 zombies was staying in front of my warehouse door. 2. I slowly approached it and attracted 3 zombies. 3. I began retreating to the center of the parking space, swinging my axe and killing the fastest zombies. 4. As soon, as I killed them, I slowly approached the same place again -- and there was a whole fresh horde standing in a square formation. Another episode: 1. I was moving along the road, being chased by a small group of zombies. I was retreating, letting 1-2 zombies approach and killing them with my axe. 2. After I killed the last of them (that took about 10-15 seconds) I decided to loot the bodies. I started walking back and saw a large square horde of zombies which was not there 10 seconds ago. What kind of evidence do you need? Will a video be okay?
  17. So, there are 3 possibilities: people are lying, people are hallucinating, or this problem really exists. What kind of evidence do you need?
  18. Let's suppose people are not lying to you. I don't have a video, but here are some screenshots of hordes that magically appeared where there was little or no zombies 1-2 seconds ago. You turn away, then look back -- and here they are! A couple of secongs ago there was a group of 12-15 zombies near my warehouse door. So I lured 2 zombies away (to the middle of the parking space), killed them -- and a horde magically appeared. Those hordes appeared out of nowhere. I was luring small groups of zombies away from the main horde and killing them. Suddenly, another horde appeared on top of the first one! It took seconds for them to appear there. There is a problem with spawning. Right now there are 6 hordes near my warehouse. They keep spawning like crazy.
  19. I don't think 4 is damaging the meta-game in any way. I see it like this: 1-3 zombies appear nearby (but not where I can see them) and migrate. They start making noise, etc. If I don't wipe them -- another 3-5 zombies appear and migrate to a horde's "assembly point". Then another 5-8 zombies, then another 5-8 and so on (up to a reasonable limit). This should not be very performance decreasing. Number 3 is not there. Huge hordes silently appear just behind a player or around the base.No matter how clever and sneaky you are -- they will just appear, and this is very frustrating. I wonder if they will appear in the forest if I get myself a tent in the middle of it.
  20. Not sure if teleporting or just spawning, but hordes sometimes appear magically where there were no zmbies a couple of seconds ago: http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/1641-zombie-spawning-might-need-some-work/page-2#entry24164
  21. Look at this screenshot. I was sneaking along that road, it was empty. When I turned around to retreat, I suddenly saw a big horde. It appeared out of nowhere, so I found myself completely surrounded. Hordes appearing out of nowhere (that was horde number 4 in that region, by the way) are not cool. I am okay with occasional rare gunshots and helicopters, but horders magically appearing right behind me -- it's a little too much My suggestions: 1. Limited number of zombies present on the map simultaneously. 2. Limited number of hordes present on the map simultaneously. 3. No spawning near survivors. Spawn at a remote location and migrate. 4. No big horde spawning. Let zombies migrate (following a sound of another zombies, for example) and form a horde gradually. Let players prevent hording by patrolling and wiping out zombies nearby before the noise level is too much. Do you agree, guys? Merged threads. - RoboMat
  22. I bet you are not the only one who knows where gun shops are. Going to a gun shop when shit already has hit the fan is probably a bad idea and a good way to get shot by competitors.
  23. They already came back. As zombies.
  24. In a zombie apocalypse zombies would not be the biggest threat. Looters, bandits and desperate people would be the biggest threat. So, I would have: 1. Clothes: as casual as possible. You don't want to look "cool" or "tacticool", because it will push you up in a priority list of potential targets. I could probably use some kevlar gloves and sleevelets. 2. Bag: something that does not look "cool". I'd add a hydropack inside and fastexes for quick dataching in a combat situation. 3. Gun: a silenced 9x19 pistol, preferably Glock-26 or Glock-17 (reliable, lightweight, compact). Silencer would increase my chances against humans and zombies. Other weapons: a makeshift spear made of a broomstick and a knife. Cheap, silent, lightweight, reusable. 4. Tools: water-purification tablets, portable water filter, a multitool, a couple of good reliable knives, a lighter, a firestarter, a torch with built-in dynamo capable of recharging AA accumulators, some paracord. 5. Meds: painkillers (including opiates for severe injuries), bandages and gauzes, betadine, hydrogen peroxide 3%, antibiotics (doxycycline, amoxicilline), latest generation antihistamines, surgical needles and threads, pincers, scalpels. Also, 96% alchohol. 6. Other stuff: mylar blankets, thermal sleeping bags. My traits: I'm a medical doctor, I shoot well, I am a light-eater, but I am not very good at melee.
