Don't know whether this has been brought up or not but i thought what would be really cool? If by a random chance that during a heavy storm or thunder storm that maybe, just maybe every now and then randomly Lightning strikes a tree or a house Resulting in it burning into a crisp and starting a fire or just instant crisp(with a tree or a wall frame or you know what i'm getting to) Also make like a lightning effect like how it is on the main menu. Would add to the apocalyptic feel and the im scared, alone and about to jump outta my pants feeling for some.
(And yes i know i spelled Lightning wrong in the title haha very tired and running on little sleep)

That sounds cool but I would also like to play as a dude and his brother fighting the apocalypse without having to fix his leg or something else. But if they do add this in a I guess hardcore players could give them a dysfunction if you want.

First of all, Thank you for the best zombie survival simulation to date, you guys really capture what a true zombie apocalypse should be, with that being said lets get to the topic.

Alright so, i've been playing this game for a little while now and am curently playing in the sandbox mode with a higher difficulty hahaha ( I called the preset "Nightmare") Anyways, in this sandbox preset i have currently set the number of zombies to insane and their hearing to pinpoint, I got to a point where my sneaking and lightfooted skills are really high so i can easily sneak into the massive horde of zombies in the center of town, the problem is that sometimes i need to kill 1 zombie to get through a hallway or maybe a tight alley and even with a knife, one swing of my weapon or one zombie kill is enough to get the attention of every single zombie in an enourmous radius which to me doesn't sound really realistic, so my suggestion is, change the sound made to different weapons in a sense that the smaller weapons that require a really short distance to kill like knifes for example make almost no sound at all while blunt weapons make a little more and so it goes or maybe enable a stealth kill for some of the weapons ( Maybe adding a skill for stealth kills). This should greatly improve the game for the kind of people that like to be sneaky and nimble like me

Thank you for your attention !
Oh and I apologize for any mistakes regarding the grammar and writing hahaha English is not my first language,

Because they are nerfing the endgame?
You still have to feed them, and water them, and keep them from obsessively killing each other when you inevitably run out of food or there is a dispute over who gets to read the last magazine?

Besides, the game can already be made piss easy in the sandbox options.
What's the most infective way of playing? Making sure power never goes off and water never goes out, and making the zombies all dumbdumbs that barely have to capability to stand during a gentle breeze.
What stops people from doing that?
hint: nothing. People don't do it because a) they wouldn't take the game seriously and b) there's no challenge

There's nothing to lose when you can start with AI. Nothing at all. Starting with 16 perfect human AI's is, sure, seen as 'optimal' (let's just pretend for a moment they are impervious to the endgame nerf), but who's going to do it?
another hint: it's the same problem as the other hint

Well actually, there would be no reason to nerf it.
People play the game to survive - if people find it easier and more comfortable to survive in a group, why should we stop them?
If people want it harder, they still can have no starting AI.

The idea of starting with NPC's that you can optionally customise their appearance and your brief history might make the players who are in it to play visionarily/romantically (as opposed to mathematically) feel more involved. Plus, the gameplay mechanics of moving from group to group, each one's demise more gruesome than the last, actually has a lot of replay value despite an otherwise limited start. It'd be on the level of those other games where you stand with a colleague near a water cooler and tell your stories of surviving with 8 somewhat depressingly abstinent playboy models.

The idea is that, eventually, like everyone else, they will die if the slightest thing goes wrong (as always), and then you move on to the next group and do it all over again.
Or go slightly deranged and live in as a hermit in the middle of the woods for the rest of your life.

And yeah, sure, there is more firepower involved when you have a small group, but that's just one element of the survival picture. A small group would need more food, more water, attract more attention, etc. It's not solely an overpowering factor. Especially with head-shot deaths coming in the future. A lone wolf stalker could tactically quickly eliminate members of a group at opportune times adding to chaos and confusion of the group.

This is a great idea. I would like to add that if your partner dies, depending on you relation it would affect you in different ways. Like if its your work mate you would not be to sad, if its your girl/boy friend you would be devastated, and if you were married your character starts thinking of suicide ( ab it dark i know, but thats probably what would happen.)

Well now. It's another day for me, and I had an idea I would like to share.
    I would like to say this: If anyone mentions that NPC's aren't released yet - yes, I know this, I know this and I know this already. This is for when they eventually are released. (;

What if, at the beginning of the game/character creation screen, we could choose if we wanted to start with other survivors we could customise to our hearts extent (using the current character creation options)

Perhaps then, you could choose what kind of relationship you have with that person (work colleague, family, married, friends, etc) that strengthens how well you get along with that person... like a bolster in relations that makes it harder to piss them off, or if they like you in a survival group.

This sounds like it could be fun, right? Like a kate and baldspot kinda thing?

Leave your thoughts, extensions, questions, etc. c:

Hey guys. Me and some friends of mine are taking on the project of creating a map of my hometown, Devils Lake North Dakota. It's quite a bit larger than Muldruagh (pop ≈ 1000) with a population of roughly 7,100. Needless to say, that'll make this map huge in game. Seriously, I lost count of how many buildings there are in just a couple blocks radius of the college.  But that's not gonna deter me; I have a lot of free time now.

    Some Google Maps
    POIs

I'm curious how many tiles do you think this map will take. I'm also curious to whether or not there is a limit.

UPDATE 12/2: Just created the initial landscape file, am tediously tracing all the roads.
UPDATE 12/3: decided to Test getting the Terrain files to import; this is pretty damn exciting-- I'm unsure if the scale is perfect or not... but I'm gonna keep going.
12/6/2014: Well as it turned out the roads I did earlier were made with lines that had anti-aliasing enabled (paint.net smoothed out the lines with lighter shades of the color I had selected). Unfortunately that meant a lot of the colors for the .bmp were incompatible. So I had to redo them. Here's a tip when editing your terrain file: ALWAYS CHECK TO SEE IF ANTI-ALIASING IS DISABLED. Anyway, here's where I am on the roads-- not even close hahaha

Also: Could a mod please move this to WIP for me please?

Something I'm missing much is street signs and house numbering. Road signs make orientation easier and house numbering makes MP easier to organize.

Right now a few buildings have popular names The curch, Spiffos, Dixies... etc. but ordinary houses are impractical to describe in a tight situation, like being overrun by zombies:

"RUN! I'll meet you at the brick two story house near the curch, the one with flowers and a door facing no...." aaand you're dinner

edit: I guess this is a suggestion for the map editor?

I was playing a file where my character kept a couple diaries and [spoiler alert] he died from infection. Before he died, I had him write a sad last journal entry and take a lethal dose of sleeping pills and whiskey.  Then I started the on the same map and went looking for the house he was in, I found it and the journals were in tact. It was really strange reading the journals as a different character, very immersive (but I bet it depends on your own writing skills).

This gave me an idea. What if some journals you come across already have writing in them? Perhaps speculating to the lore of the zombie outrbreak, or perhaps capturing a slice of an NPC's life before and during the beginning of the outbreak.  Think Skyrim and Fallout 3.  I think if executed well, it would be a dynamic way to get players even more immersed into the game. It could used for story as well as a form of introducing quests.

Lore- Something that provides insight into what might have caused the outbreak, or how life was at the onset of the outbreak. May also provide insight to some game mechanics

    Example: a diary in a kid's bedroom:

Dear diary, Mom looked really upset when I got home from school today. She was on the phone with dad, or some of dad's coworkers I think. I asked her what was going on and she sent me to my room. I can still hear her crying. I hope dad's okay...

Dear diary, dad's still not home, mom won't tell me what's happening. She keeps saying 'this is really it... this can't be happening'. I think she's hysterical. I keep calling dad's phone but I just get voicemail, when I call the CDC to ask for him, all I get is a weird 'emergency brodcast' message. What the hell is going on?

Dear diary, mom gave me a gun... then she told me dad got killed at work... twice. All the teachers at school today were distracted and at least half of the class was missing. All over TV newscasters are arguing about some viral outbreak that causes "madness". Mom's drunk, she says it's the rapture.

Immersion - Something that contains no useful information aside from showing a little bit of what life was like pre-apocalypse that adds some flavor. It may also provide insight to some game mechanics in some cases

Example: Notebook found in a restauraunt.

Today's Special is Buffalo Ranch Burger

2 eggs over hard, hash browns, side of ranch, bacon
one special, medium well, bowl of beer cheese soup, french fries
    orange juice, cola

Quest- Something that gives players info about the where-abouts of useful items, locations, NPCs.

Example: Journal found on dead NPC (apparent suicide)

Downtown's swarming with those freaks. They got Billy and... I still don't believe this... I got bit too. I feel nauesous. I don't know if I have what it takes to go on anymore... So... If anyone finds this, I've hidden some ammo and usefull provisions in a crate inside my apartment on 4th street. You can have it, I don't think I'll be needing it anymore. Just do me a favor and off as many of those bastards as you can. For Billy.

F-Dog came up with the idea of having users' write some found journals in effort to make this idea somewhat easier to implement for the Devs. So I encourage people to write and post their journals here. Just make sure to specify whether it's Lore, Immersion, or Quest.  Also keep in mind that Lore pertaining to how the outbreak got started should always be somewhat vauge, it's up to the developers what really happened.
