    Considering that you have so far been keeping the timeline of the game's events somewhat ambiguous, showing us that the cause of the zombie infection is doc Brown's and Marty's careless meddling is a bold move. I like it.

    Given the way they look on the character, long denim shorts probably shouldn't protect the shins. As of now, they provide exactly the same protection as long jeans, except that they have no movement penalty. Nerf, please.

    This is not related to the pick up function that other objects use, but it's quite odd that gravel still cannot be picked up despite the fact that this has been reported many times over the years.

    Been a smoker most my life, wanted smoking trait in game for years, just quit smoking, smoking trait added to Zomboid, FML.

    I died from drinking bleach because I wasted my plaster and paint making my fort the wrong color by accident. - This was at 9 months of surviving.

    I also died once because I woke up at 4am IRL to play for a bit, and oddly enough my last save was from my guy just waking up at 6am, and on this char I always used a rope escape to leave the house in the morning, but, naturally because I wasn't paying attention and I rappelled straight into a horde = death by mauling.

    Also died another time after 15 months because I couldn't find a sledgehammer, decided to end it and drink bleach again. I can't live in a world with no Sledgehammers.

    Some of the most fun I've had with PZ is when I get injured and I don't have medical supplies yet. There was once that I got glass shards in my hand and couldn't get it out until I had tweezers, I was super frantic and had to plan a trip to West Point's medical building (Cortman's was out). Made it really interesting.

    You can now spawn injured at the start of a survival game. It might not be fair but I think it is cool. I would like to have more random starts. Not all of these need to be bad!

    Yes, because everyone in real life is completely healthy, not to mention a human being who's already survived at least some portion of a zombie apocalypse
     
    It's actually not "beyond ridiculous," it's intentional design. Starting the game the same way every time makes the game more stale. Adding additional starting entropy makes for a more exciting, engaging experience.

    Mostly, we need cigarettes to give fatigue, they actually reduce your overall fitness IRL, I've been smoking for about ten years and I think that's the most important aspect of the matter.
     
    About addiction, as fare as I'm aware, the average is getting free of your addiction after two weeks of non smoking, usually you get rid of both cigarettes and people who smoke around you, but there's no science behind this; 
    Starting the addiction is another story... Everybody's quite different here. I've been casually smoking for over a year before getting addicted, so it was all a matter of psychological addiction, but a lot of friends started in a lot of different ways. Some started immediately, some needed stress to really get addicted, others needed to smoke while doing certain tasks like working or being with friends. The general idea is that if you're feeling very badly (e.g. depression) you'll speed up a lot the process. It would be cool for multiplayer to have a higher chance to get addicted if you smoke near someone who's smoking, but I don't know how feasible that is

    48 hours is when the withdrawl symtoms are really STARTING ;D
    For me, it takes 12-24h until i start getting kinda restless & anxious if I'm not smoking. It takes ~1-2 weeks until the body gets used to not getting any nicotine.
     
    It's harder to tell how long it takes to get addicted... Anti-Smoking fanatics will tell you it only takes 1 cigarette, but I was a casual smoker for years and noticed no effect whatsoever.

    I'm okay with this as long as it has about a 1% chance of success and a high chance of smashing a window out, breaking while you're climbing, making noise, and all around just being every bit as terrible in-game as that would be in real life.

    Try building a full sized wall on each side of the fence with sheet rope, it makes climbing down a lot safer.

    This is a surprisingly good starting base despite not having a second floor.
     
    You can barricade just a few places to drastically reduce zombie migration and later on expand.
