  1. Question about the challenges - it says you can play last stand in survival mode, but when i go to the challenges tab, there is the "CD DA" challenge and then two duplicate 'last stand in the woods' choices. I don't see anything about survival mode. How do I activate the last stand in survival mode challenge? thanks.
  2. Yes, I'm glad to see this topic arising on the thread. This is basically what I was hoping for with build 30, but after many hours of playing it doesn't look like zombie behavior has progressed to this point yet. I'm not sure that attacks need to be scripted, but I've advocated in the past for ramping or accelerated difficulty as the game progresses. I'd love to see a giant horde like the one in Enigma's screenshot. Something unstoppable (except maybe by campfire it sounds . I once burned my (in game) house down cooking burnt chicken. It was a bummer, but it also forced me to start over with finding new supplies, tools, and weapons, which presented a fun challenge. I've never had to make the walk from one town to the next simply because I usually get bored long before the town I spawn in loses resources to keep me alive. An unstoppable horde that decimated everything in its path might actually force you to hit the highroad and take what you can with you on your back. Accelerating spawning might not really do the trick by itself. I don't think its necessarily about the number of zombies on the map but also about how they migrate. Too many random zombies clumped in every possible location can be annoying, and makes the early game almost too difficult to enjoy. This is why simply setting them to insane doesn't really make for a compelling gaming experience. My experience has also been that the meta-noises don't seem to generate enough zombie movement to keep my on my toes or threaten my base. Establishing a delicate balance of difficulty for the various stages (early, mid, late) as the game progresses is critical, and I think keeping players on the move, or at least finding mechanisms to generate threat to bases needs to be a top priority. At least in my opinion.
  3. 9 game days into 30.7 after a several real life months hiatus. Just managed to raid the hardware store and it was the most satisfying accomplishment I've had playing the game yet. I'm finding the new zombies + exhaustion very challenging (died about 4 times before this run), but in a good way, especially since the tweaks made this morning (exhaustion calculated by damage vs swings). I'm able to get through moderate clumps of zombies, but definitely have to think twice and plan carefully before moving into an area swarming with them. In my opinion, recovering from exhaustion is no big deal (just hit fast forward or sleep 1 hour) and it definitely forces me to strategize more. A mid-day catnap has become part of my routine. No biggie. Now that I'm starting on fortifications, I'm hoping to actually find zombies knocking at my door one of these nights. So far its pretty quiet around home.... For me this is the main test. I'm really hoping that fortifications will actually mean something now that these changes are going into effect. Good work devs!
  4. Nope. Not running. The exhaustion icon has appeared several times while im in the process of opening a window. I want to say it appears right as you hear the "click" indicating the window is locked, but I can't say that with certainty. The process is definitely triggering exhaustion for me though.
  5. one issue regarding endurance - lifting windows shouldn't wear you out so much. I've gotten exhausted after just circling one or two houses trying to open windows.
  6. I'm enjoying the new exhaustion system, though I agree it will need some balancing. Exhaustion comes on a bit too easily.
  7. Just played my first few hours since a couple builds ago (28 i think). I've been eagerly waiting for the 'kill you before you get to the end game' updates. I'm confused though. The Mondoid was vague on weather this build is the bulk of those updates or is clumping just the beginning? I really like what the devs have done so far since 28. In this play through, I only made it a few days before getting bitten by a zombie that seemed to appear out of nowhere. The zombie clumping is definitely better. Also fighting hordes is much more difficult with all the gameplay mechanisms that have been tweaked. All this is good stuff. My initial feedback on first aid even though I know this feature has been around for a while now: I broke a window, climbed through, and cut my hands (which has never happened to me before). I really like the new additions to first aid crafting and UI. I did find it a little absurd, however, how frequently my bandages became dirty and had to be reapplied. I found myself spending the better part of an entire day cleaning and reapplying bandages. I suppose this is somewhat realistic in terms of how an injury would slow you down. But I can't say the process provided a lot of in game enjoyment, removing, cleaning, reapplying over a dozen times in one day. Is there a way to wear or craft anything that makes climbing through windows less dangerous? gloves?
  8. does this mean zombies will beat down my house now?
  9. so so happy to read this update! I've basically been waiting for this before jumping back in the game. Thanks guys for all the hard work. Can't wait for these new difficulty features to arrive!
  10. Thanks for the responses. Good to know I'm not the only one with this frustration and also good to hear that some of the NPC content might help address this. I think what I'm looking for actually might already exist in Last Stand game mode, where zombies appear in waves, offering time in between to resupply and fortify, etc. Except rather than regular waves, I think the pulses can be randomized in survival mode so you are never quite sure when the next wave will come. Last Stand mode is basically what I want, though without the limitation of being confined to one building.
  11. Ok, I don't normally post to forums, but I really really want to love this game, and something is holding it back. Basically, the game for me now is all about the first week, when I'm searching for basic weapons and tools. Once I have hammer, axe, saw, trowel.... what am i missing.... nothing, thats pretty much all I need. I build some basic walls around my house, make some rain cisterns, start planting, maybe give fishing a shot just for kicks - thats it. I usually stop seeing zombies anywhere near my pad by the time I actually get basic walls up. Mega-fortress building? Whats the point? I've never made a single character past about 1.5 months just because I get bored. It turns into a farming/fishing/cooking game. And cooking isn't really even necessary since all I need to do is eat a potato to be fed all day. Firearms? whats the point? I can demolish oodles of Zs with an axe, some fancy footwork, and a few trees to doge behind once the going gets tough. IF I SAY THE GAME IS TOO EASY, many will just yell at me to work the sandbox tools to increase difficulty to my desire. The problem with this is that the only way to do this really is to spawn ridiculous amounts of super-powered zombies from the getgo, making the "end-game" (i.e. fortifications, necessity of trapping/fishing for survival, etc.) nearly impossible to achieve. I THINK A FANTASTIC BALANCE CAN BE ACHIEVED by allowing for a RAMPING difficulty rate where zombie spawn and ability increase over time. I'm dreaming of the day when a horde of zombies actually start pounding on my fences and fortified windows. Allow us to start things off kind of easy, then start sending zomboids to our doors in ever increasing numbers. Let me get a little comfortable with my shabby walls and vegetable garden and then sock-it-to-me with a blood hound zombie horde! Beginning game is awesome. Mid-game is boring. End game.... there shouldn't be one. I should die before I get bored. Things should gradually get worse, and worse, and tenser, and scarier, and more dangerous. This would make for a way cooler game. Isn't anyone else having this problem? (And I really want to love this game )
  12. I feel kind of in the same boat. I'm over a month in and I rarely have to leave my fort for anything. I feel like I'm just playing a farming game. Occasionally I try cooking something fancy, but just eating a potato gets me through an entire day. Now there's fish too if I want. I have to go looking for them to find a zombie. I've made a couple runs into westpoint to fire off my shotgun in the hopes of generating a super horde but after one reload worth of shots they're all dead. They've only really seemed like a relevant threat the first week of game time, when still looking for the basic toolset (axe, saw, etc.). And even then, just crisscrossing behind some trees or houses always loses them. I'm wondering if I stick it out longer will zombies actually start becoming a problem again? Like, do they start attacking your fort or anything? Massive migrations? I'm guessing it gets harder to farm in the winter, and I'll start eating though non-perishibles. Could just play out for months and months to die of starvation but boredom will make me stop before i ever get to that point. Am I missing something?
