The ambulance raced down the highway from Muldraugh to Rosewood. Over half a tank of gas, but no food. The young man driving it was starving, had been for days. He needed to get something to eat and soon.

Going 100mph down the highway, he made his way to a gas station. The dead were everywhere but he had no food and no options. In he went, only to find nothing but sodas left on the shelf. The enemy was closing in fast, he had to run out of the store. He spotted a police cruiser he hadn't noticed at first. Some kind of gun would be useful and there was always a shotgun or rifle in the back of every cruiser. He popped the trunk only to find a radio. It seemed pretty high tech, he hoped to reach people who had supplies with it.

It was a lot heavier than he thought it would be and the man was bitten on his left hand trying to haul it away. He managed to get into the ambulance just in time, or so he thought. He put the radio in the passenger’s seat and zoomed off.

Going 100mph through the woods wasn’t what killed him. The lightpost did. This ambulance of his had no headlights, he had to use his ambulance’s emergency lights instead to see. The irony was painful.

He died on impact. The driver side door swung open. The bite didn’t take long to turn him. Out he fell from the cabin of the vehicle, another shambling corpse in the rainy night.

Character Spotlight 1: Lincoln Whittaker - Route 281

    Name: Lincoln Whittaker
    Aliases: Whit, Red
    Age: 37
    Gender: Male
    Origins: Brownwood, Texas
    Status: Deceased

    __________________________________________

At some point in the evening while half asleep, his third day on the road surrounded by people he was still yet unfamiliar, slumped in a shallow ditch a mile off the interstate, a child attached himself to Whit's proximity. The boy must have been alone, he assumed, as there didn't seem a soul otherwise preoccupied with his well-being. His face and hands were blackened by soot, streaks cascading down his face where tears had once accumulated, leaving his skin exposed only in those solemn strips that dried along the cut of his jaw. Everything he wore lead Whit to believe he'd emerged in solitude at the expense of some disastrous shortcoming, a lone survivor. He was naught but ten. Twelve at the oldest. Trailing in tandem, it would have been cruel to disavow his company.

Like each morning passed since flight from Brownwood, their ragged band of miscreants stirred from fitful slumber at the first signs of a stranger rising. They had, in the first two days, only lost a handful of their congregation. Whether they had strayed too far and lost account, or had they -- in one instance -- been devoured before daylight, none of them slept more than a wink, and often with one eye open, had they even slept at all. Everyone was depleted, Whit among them, and the boy was faring worse than most.

On more than one occasion, Whit was forced to turn around and drag the child back to the others while the party marched nearer the Oklahoma border, hastened footsteps met with purpose to the baking blacktop that patched the asphalt of Route 377, but it was steadily driving the pair toward the brink of oblivion. When they flanked the edge of Dallas, west of Weatherford and crossing then onto the 281, aimed at Decatur, the boy sat himself in the middle of the road and protested he'd move no further. While he kicked and screamed, crying like a wounded animal, Whit tossed him over his shoulder and carried him until the fourth night fell.

An hour into the evening, however, after they'd stop to rest, a small crowd of leering corpses intercepted their trajectory to devastating effects. In the aftermath of that chaotic scuffle, more than half of those weary souls traveling in their midst had succumbed to bites and scratches, forcing hard decisions upon the remnants unscathed. Families shared parting words, while others not granted the grace of heartfelt goodbyes wept for loss, and with their individual duties done, they piled their lifeless husks clumsily for fear of lingering a moment too late in that cursed stretch of Northern Texas. It seemed barbaric to leave them there above ground, but so few had ate since departure, both their energy and spirit were waning.

Each second had tugged Whit closer to the earth for sake of respite. He hadn't the heart to mourn a man unbeknownst their will and memoir, but a child was effortless; adrift on the wind, a fleeting sort of connection to what was and what might have been. The boy could not understand this new world any clearer than a worm the scale of time, but realizing now as their passage pushed forward that he had been separated, Whit wandered again, over a wire fence and leaned against a lonesome shack -- a flattened plain -- where the boy rested immobile in the dirt. Blood caked in the soil, a thick, expansive pool. His breath was stilled, his flesh still warm to the touch, and though it could not be spared the urgency with which the others had left their darlings to rot among reanimated cadavers, he dug with his hands a narrow grave and left him there, at last to find peaceful accord with the universe.

I'll answer this because these accusations are an attempt to tarnish my legacy.

When they say /blatantly duping items/ they mean framed. There are no logs of items duped because I didn't dupe anything.
Initially I was banned for having Alice Packs they thought I /hacked/ into the game, then when I told them you could build them with Hydrocraft and cited the recipe they just changed their reason.
Nobody can cite what I duped /blatantly duped in mass/ because I didn't dupe anything. The only evidence they ever produced was me logging off in one location and logging into another. A result of loading a backup. Which I loaded because my file became corrupted because they thought adding 12 story skyscrapers with massive hordes of zombies / fixtures / textures was a good idea. The server has huge complex logs that give tons of information, if I was duping they'd easily have been able to cite what exactly they thought I was /blatantly duping./

Pretty much they make these big claims against me to try and tarnish my legacy by saying everything I did that was great or good on the server. I could only have accomplished by cheating. Which is false, I don't  even want to be unbanned from New Dawn. I wear my ban proudly.

Here's a story about one of their guys who had an obsession for me. Would go through every item in my base and try to interpret the rules in any way possible to try to get me in trouble. This guy, who is still an admin btw lol even after this.
He has considerable sway on the server. So he rigged it.
He added gun mods to the server so it allowed machine guns. Restricted drops so machine guns could only be spawned and couldn't be found randomly in boxes. Added mods that allowed extra perks / classes that gave him like +9 to aim from character creation but put it behind a gate so /nobody else could take it but a select few *Approved* individuals/ Then the guy restricted the military profession which had stats that were incredibly overpowered and made no sense how strong it was, but it was balanced because. "no one else could pick it." Then part of the class is that when they spawn they get a free machine gun with a box of ammo. Then the guy walks around and says "Look how tough I am? Have you seen my penis? it is very big and nice and impressive. I am not compensating for anything I swear."

If you go up against them, expect to deal with such problems such as. Having zombies spawned on your base, have the admins friends /accidentally/ find your base. /Random/ admin events where 3 bandit players attack your base with machine guns. People ERPing 5 feet away from you... Constantly. False accusations and let's not forget some good old fashioned cheating, one such example. Making people who are their friends invincible during pvp and when asked about it claim it was an accident.

I'm not alone either, there are big groups of people who played on ND who had to leave because the rigged favorism has made it not even worth playing because the winners and losers are decided by a select few people. Not by skill or merit, but by popularity gauged by a small group of "Superfriends."
    In the words of Coach
"This used to be a nice neighborhood."

I was the head admin of New Dawn off and on for 4 years. I've been there with the vanilla game,  and I've been there with tons of mods. EG is right. The reason I don't work on that server right now is due to the politics of it.  I got tired of having to constantly fight between the admin and the players. Honest  to god, it just isn't worth the headache. It's a job that you don't get paid for and one that NEVER ends.

Lets be honest here, the player population of this game isn't huge. It's a game that's been in Alpha-Beta for at least the 4 years I've played. So the few servers that ARE left are in general vying for the same player-base, many of which all have different wants out of a server. So admin add more "features" mods to make their server stand out - and they manage to hold a players attention for a few weeks, but that's all they are doing. Holding the attention of a mesh of players until either new game features come out, or until a new server appears with the next "big" thing or different feel.

I think honestly, we're going to be stuck in this cycle until the game gets complete, and new fresh players come into the game. The best thing that could happen (IMO) is if the game officially added people to the payroll to oversee the online communities. Bring the players together onto 3 or 4  official servers, a vanilla one, an RP server, and one that tries all kinds of mods, and works to build up the community.

I had hoped that the car update would make it so they don't teleport all over the place making them impossible to play with, but it seems the streaming fix for cars doesn't do anything to help them. Suggestion is to just simply make them practical and work correctly in multiplayer rather than teleporting all over the place.

Gah, I can't contain it anymore!

This thread is full of too many facts. New Dawn used to be a GREAT server to play on, so much so that I offered my services as an admin to help further the enjoyment of the server. It started off pretty good; slowly learning how things worked behind the scenes, and helping guide newer players to fit in with the server rules and the community. I was always under the impression that rather than punish players for doing something wrong, it was better to educate them and set a standard by example. This didn't work out as well as I thought it might however...

It didn't take too long to see a divide within the admin team itself. Due to my prior interactions on the server I had become friends with several members that some might consider 'trouble makers', and by 'trouble' I mean the kind of players that enjoyed driving antagonistic roleplay. Obviously, we all do what we enjoy right? I mean, why go out to eat Russian cuisine if it's not to your taste? You wouldn't. And just like culinary or musical tastes, taste in roleplay is subjective from person to person. Well it didn't take long to see a pattern emerging... Just like certain players on the other side of the fence enjoy making lesbian carpenters/blacksmiths (Get out into the real world btw, blacksmiths? Uhh, think you mean boilermaker, CNC machinist, or metal fabricator, but whatever!), my group of friends sure enjoyed making morally questionable characters with the intent of driving antagonistic roleplay, as was to be expected.

This is where my frustrations with the admin team REALLY started to grow. Day in, day out I'd open my skype and see an essay worth of complaints against these players. Ranging from some admittedly questionable behaviour and roleplay, to what I'd consider straight up stalking! One time I logged onto my admin character to check what the other 4 admins were doing on their accounts. Any guesses as to what they were doing? Well I don't think they knew either, cause it took 4 of them to watch Jack Bauer talk to himself in a shack for almost 2 hours! Of course Jack isn't stupid... He knew he was being watched. How? I told him.

Corruption you say? Well, that would be the most corrupt thing I did. Why? Because I was simply tired of seeing a player being victimized by the other admins all because his character might kill or harm one of their own characters or their friend. Now as mentioned by Lean Melon, the treatment was certainly different between groups. Another example involving Jack; his character found a rabbit and decided to keep it as a pet. So what? Well, he copped a strike towards an account ban because "having a pet wasn't mentioned in his bio". If this was the friend of any other admin, they would have had the bunny confiscated and been warned about it... Oh, and while we're on the topic of Jack, how about that time Mindgate went around telling all his friends which character was played by Jack, simply so his friends could come up with in-character reasons to kill him? The worst thing about that is the owner of the server found out and did NOTHING. That was it for me, I pretended to be too busy and just nope'd the fuck outta there.

I can go on and on about admin corruption. There was one time where Mindgates group kept trying to live on a glitchy part of the map and they all kept claiming items would get deleted when they logged in/out. A quick look through RCON would reveal the admins spawning in Alice Packs, grenades, boxes of ammo etc. One of my friends wants a cooking pot to make noodles pre-apocalypse? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE! I don't think there was ever a day where I logged into skype and didn't see a squealing call-to-arms to ban someone I considered a friend, all the while filtering through excuses for their own friends attempts at manipulating the rules.

Seriously, I've been holding off in adding my opinion, but after seeing how much worse the attitudes of the admin team have become I simply cannot remain quiet. While I never really talked to VCarrasola, I always saw him around as an active, contributing member of the community. To see a player like that have his words twisted is rather sickening.

My post probably just further fuels the topic of divide between the groups, but how else would anyone act in my position? It got to a point where I felt like I had to be there to stick up for these players, lest they get banned for the simplest of mistakes. I may not have been a perfect admin but I can sure as hell say I was a FAIR admin.

If roleplaying your character's hardcore training of multiple different scenarios involving firearms and earning a high aim level then using it in an actual fight is considered "abusing the game system" then why did you award me EXP in the first place?

During my years at NewDawn it's safe to say I was one of the cleanest players regarding PvP. I've never powergamed, roleplayed text fighting right in all sorts of contexts, always gave a heads up before going fighting mechanically. To say I abused the system is just simply slanderous.

Unfortunately for me that's how I went out. You fire five rounds after being shot at six times and you're immediately in the wrong. I hate to pull out the "I'm hated by the entire authority force" but it's simply true. If there wasn't a biased admin force they would've simply healed everyone and informed me whatever I did was wrong there, and not give me an instant ban. I guess I should've seen this kind of shit happening. The admins were awarding other players EXP while I was the only one who didn't receive anything for two+ weeks straight despite being on a majority of this time / / while Atria was online as well. (Confirmed with multiple guys who informed me they had received EXP while I was told "Atria couldn't keep up with me because she's tired IRL" over said time period.)

I'd support this if there were some sort of confrontation emote first, like withdrawing your firearm or emote firing it before doing a countdown and going crazy on the guy. Yes, this does happen and it would happen in an apocalypse an example where hostile groups claim large chunks of territories and kill trespassers for their supplies. The most common argument to why KOS is not allowed is because players should be able to live their characters lives out without the fear of being killed so quickly. As I've stated multiple times outside of this thread, not everyone gets to live some super huge story out as death comes least expected. (What kind of story would it be if your character got plot immunity as well?) This is also the apocalypse where so many people died. Your character should be very capable in many ways and know basic rule of thumbs. He/she wouldn't take risks that would endanger his/her life which is also why a majority of people die so many times. There should always be that fear in the back of every survivor's head that someone they've met could kill them at any moment, or they're going to get run up on because they're walking down a main road. Without KOS in my experience, Newdawn, there's no real fear of being killed. You can simply run away, stall and wait for your friends to come find you, have admins come void the scene because the scene was categorized as "Not enough roleplay." While KOS would create a dangerous apocalyptic environment, I doubt it'd ever be instituted in a roleplay server because of a number of things I've stated in my previous post.

The rules themselves are not that bad, execution and how they enforce them however is a lot like an apartheid in levels of discrimination between players who are in the /inner friend circle/ and those who are not.

Good example is if you are popular with the super friend circle you'll get a slap on the wrist but if you are unpopular they'll kill your character / ban you. if you complain about it? Post deleted / declared a troll.

Most folks who were serious about RP quit because having some 16 year old admin abuse his powers so that he can defend his imaginary in game girlfriend / super friend circle by moving to get you banned / removed from the server for the crime of being an existing in character threat isn't a very creative or nurturing environment and it isn't even RP.

It's just real life drama, and if I wanted that I would go to a House Party.

I, VCarrasola, wasn't banned for "harassing people in PMs" - in fact, I'd like to see evidence of that. I was banned because of the post I wrote and because you got mad, Atria. So don't make up BULLSHIT about me or what happened, because my only mistake is explained in my post and from then I left AGN alone, I haven't done anything to you, so don't spread misinformation to cover yourselves.

I've been relatively nice through all my time in the community, and If I am being blunt it's because I had to face so much abuse from players and mainly admins, but I kept quiet until I left.

I tried to be nice with you, nothing I've ever said was directed to you, just to other members of the admin team and players. But I feel like you felt touched and took it personal, even though it wasn't. You banned me purely because of that.

I didn't want to post in this but lol. Folks got banned because New Dawn got a new head admin like three months ago and they're just banning anyone who disagrees with them in a public setting. Doesn't matter if you've been with New Dawn or AGN for three years, for the great crime of having a differing opinion you shall be declared a troll and banned.

I know Vcassarola and he never deserved what he got and a lot of the older players know it and won't touch this server anymore.

They will not accept an applicant that threatens their grand plans for their characters that admins use their powers to make a reality with either blatant favorism / stupid events all about their own personal character and the rest of the server is supposed to follow them as they beat a drum to the tune of a world where they are the most popular hero.

Guess this thread is active because they can't ban us for expressing that players should run the story.

    Jack Bauer out.
