  1. Heh, your pic really says it hey?
  2. So, got another thought, if dogs are supposed to be introduced, why not cats? As many cat owners know the "thrill" of waking up in the morning to a gift mouse or rat, why not use it for its literal intent? In the event of an apocalypse with imminent doom around every corner and a less than empty fridge, a gift from ones pet cat could benefit both parties. Another thing that cats would be good for is attacking mice or rats looking for a quick meal on the players food reserves. The fact that cats tend to be more independent plays into the players advantage too based on minimal care requirements, but a good rub or cuddle could also help depression and boredom, especially the companion factor if live survivors are nowhere in sight. Sorry for the long post but it seemed relevant to post.
  3. Being October, I thought of how certain foods come and go at different times of the year, so if one was to start a game of Zomboid in November or December, you would be more likely to find eggnog or turkey in a store or home, where as a game started in October would see pumpkins and boxes of candy. Not the most important of additions, but it does give a little incentive to choose the start month. This is a short list of different foods I Jotted down; Turkey - November JulyEggnog - November December JanuaryPumpkin - OctoberBox of Candy - OctoberChocolate Eggs - AprilWild Mushrooms - September October Dandelions - May JuneObviously more is better in this sense so do you have more ideas or thoughts to add?
  4. I think the spear idea should be added but needs to be expanded to include different "grades" so to speak of quality and damage. A knife duct taped to a broom handle will have the lowest durability, while a sharpened screwdriver welded to a metal pole will have the highest durability. perhaps the spear idea could be based off of cooking food, and have different qualities and grades for the materials that one uses, but it could be too difficult to code in.
  5. So I was using some coat hangers for crafting things and realized, "Why isn't there any coat hangers in-game?" They could be used for all kinds of building and crafts like bindings (rope, twine, etc.), tent pegs, and just now I tested a piece as a makeshift nail; I hammered it into wood and turns out it works just fine. Thoughts? Suggestions?
  6. I was playing Borderlands 2 the other day, and this song reminded me of Zomboid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZI6SYw4kBs
  7. So I was thinking about other means of construction without nails, rope, etc, and I remembered something I learned in school that pioneers did in the frontier days in the US and Canada; Sod Houses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sod_house So with the shovel, one should be able to construct walls out of sod from cutting out individual grass tiles into 4 sod squares for construction using a shovel, trowel, knife, etc. Just an idea that came to me, thoughts?
  8. I feel curious about this too; I have major depression, anxiety, and PTSD, and I feel curious as to how this would affect a person of my stature, using these as a negative factor to give perk points could give more depth into the character creation factor, such as; lets say its me in the game, I'm going to need to stockpile antidepressants because I take them daily in real-life, there are "other" things I take for depression, but that is for another topic...
  9. Another Idea I had with egg cartons is mixing the Styrofoam with gas; the Styrofoam dissolves into it, making it a thick, homemade napalm.
  10. I thought about how eggs generally are found in groups of one in fridges, and that it really doesn't make much sense. At first I thought that eggs could be turned into "egg cartons" with the bar indicating how much of something is left, but it still felt, well, not right, so I thought instead that egg cartons could be a "storage container" as an alternative. Eggs have a weight of 0.1 in game, so an full egg carton would hold 1.2 worth of weight technically. It's still an odd number, but something else odd is finding whole packs of bacon, and only one egg I refer to Major_malice's topic on soundproofing for an example of crafting purposes for egg cartons; and another couple I can think of are thermal insulating, and perhaps water containers. Suggestions? Opinions?
  11. I can tell that using the washroom would be a pain in the butt (pardon the pun) due to the speed in which the days go, you'd be using the can at least every half hour real time (if time is on the standard 1 real hour day speed), but I do agree that hygiene is an incredibly important factor in survival. Obviously slaying zombies would cover you in blood, drastically increasing the infection and sickness rates in anyone, but there's also working hard, and/or a hot day that would make anyone sweat and stink, which in turn is unhealthy. I kind of wanted to start this same tread but never got around to it.
  12. Well I'm used to south Canada I suppose. Fishing in winter is no easy task here, the worms you do find are thinner than the hook you skewer them on... A definite handicap in the post apocalyptic world
  13. I remember back in school we read a short story about a native woman with a baby living in the Polar North, she was desperate to catch a fish to feed her and her starving baby, and after many hours of fishing without any available bait, she cut a piece of her flesh off to use as bait. She fished with it as bait and after a short while, she caught a fish. I can't remember the name of the story, but the point I bring across is pretty self explanatory, just something to ponder upon I suppose, desperation and all...
  14. Huzzah! Fixed! Removed the problem lots from the WorldEd cell, Opened the problem lots in TileZed and re-exported them, then simply just added them back into the WorldEd map and everything was hunky-dory again. Thanks all!
  15. So I tried it in sandbox mode, (took a little while to figure out) and the same problem occurs. Quite troubling
  16. So I've been working on a large map project for a while and decided to test a finished cell in last stand mode. I ran into some repairable problems, but one leaves me unsure what to do: So my problem is that the buildings appear to be in place at first, but as I approach, they disappear completely. Any ideas on what's happening?
  17. Employ some castle stronghold tactics; rolling logs and boiling oil! (and whatever else I can't think of right now )
  18. Weird name for a title but I figure a rope around a cinder block would work well for continuous dropping on zombies heads from a second story vantage point. The "long poke" is basically a spear that you could use from above zombies, or to keep zombies at bay, obviously though the attack speed would be cripplingly slow, but I want more ways to kills zombies outside my fortress without leaving the safety of the walls and without having to use loud guns and precious ammo. Just a thought; I don't know the feasibility of it, but it is one of my "real-life zombie outbreak" tactics. Lol, another weapon: Cymbal stand with cymbal.
  19. Where to begin... An unfinished broadsword make out of plate steelA homemade polearm (with a 10 foot extension pole for stabbing zombies from above a wall)Some knifes2 throwing knifesA crapload of scrap metal (poles, bedframes, etc)An axe and a hatchetA dufflebag of drywall trowels, knifes, etc.Large (old) stereo speakers (What? they can be thrown!)A speargun (without the cord though, but can still stab (Ok, now I'm stretching...)No guns though, being as I live in Canada, but still a place worth looting.
  20. Well, back in the day, I was making a 4 cell map on the original tilezed editor. I called the region "Mica" as a placeholder, but it stuck like flies to zombies so I kept it. I was working on the 3rd cell when my computer pulled a fast one on me and I lost some of the data. Well many moons later, the updated editor was released and after much thought I decided to scrap it and start working on another, better map. Needless to say, rather than see the two finished cells and months go to waste, I decided to just release the original .tmx's to the public to be picked apart and used however. The First cell consists of a large, turn of the century prison surrounded by dense forest and low density housing. The second cell Is mainly a large trailer park with a storage complex near the highway. Please note that in making this, I had no real way of doing tests and the like (Didn't own the game, knew someone who did) Sorry I don't have screenshots. Don't ask, just take... mica.zip
  21. Right on! thanks for the help! Now begins the placing of every building and house in my area (On a 5X5 cell map) Oh and sorry for the double forum post, still acquainting myself with forums.
  22. So, normally I don't come for help unless I've expended all of my options, but I've been working on a map of my hometown, which is a 5x5 cell region. I generated lots for all the cells and got ready to add the first building, so I double clicked on the cell I was to add the building to, but it comes up as a blank cell, just a grey region. I'm not sure if I missed some step, but I've gone over it a few times and ran a blank. Thanks for the help.
