Context Menu Broken? Report Here!

Rathlord

Question

Update! There's just been a hotfix, should have sorted all issues!

Heya guys,

It seems some people are having trouble with context menus not appearing in the new Steam release- Update 2.9.9.17g (or [0008]).

We're trying to collect info to see if we can figure out what's up, so we need a few things from people with problems.

If you're having trouble, please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid and delete the entire folder and then clear out (or move) your Zomboid folder in the 'username' folder on your computer. Be aware that this has your saves in it, so you may not want to delete it.

Do not change any settings at any time in this process before this point.

Let us know if that worked.

If not, try playing at the smallest resolution possible, and try both windowed and fullscreen. Make sure you restart the game after changing resolution.

If it does or doesn't work, please post below so we can get some data in this format:

Operating System:

64-bit/32-bit:

What is my native resolution:

Did I remember to enable the Beta on Steam, and is it still enabled:

Did I try removing Zomboid folder and Local Content at the same time:

Did I try fullscreen/windowed:

Did I try the minimum resolution:

Did any of this steps fix my problem (if so, which):

Windows 7 64bit

Beta is enabled

Deleted Zomboid folder & Reinstalled

Tried a variety of fullscreen and windowed combinations

Minimum resolution (1024x768) worked fine

Native resolution: 1920x1080

I reinstalled and began playing using the default & minimum resolution of 1024x768 windowed mode after they became broken when I updated using 1920x1080 fullscreen. Context menus were working fine after the reinstall. I then switched to 1920x1080 resolution and the context menus were gone. So I began testing a bunch of resolutions.

1024x768 Windowed - Passed

1024x768 Fullscreen - Passed

1280x1024 Fullscreen - Passed

1280x1024 Windowed - Passed

The following resolutions were done in Windowed unless noted otherwise

1280x720 - Passed

1280x768 - Passed

1280x800 - Passed

1280x960 - Passed

1360x768 - Passed

1366x768 - Passed

------------------------ It appears that high resolutions are currently messing up, this is my cutoff point

1600x1024 - Failed

1600x900 - Failed

1680x1050 - Failed

1768 x 992 - Failed

1920x1080 Windows & Fullscreen - Failed

All of these tests were done after closing the game and starting it back up

Operating System:

64-bit/32-bit: 64-bit Win 8

What is my native resolution: 1366x768

Did I remember to enable the Beta on Steam, and is it still enabled: Yes

Did I try removing Zomboid folder and Local Content at the same time: Yes, both manually and via steam local content deletion (deleting zomboid settings folder manually each time in user directory)

Did I try fullscreen/windowed: Yes. 1366x768 Fullscreen, 1024x768 Windowed, 1024x600 Windowed

Did I try the minimum resolution: Yes, 1024x600 Windowed

Did any of this steps fix my problem (if so, which): No

Let's make sure we're all on the same playing field:

So, everyone with mouse issues, after deleting %username%\zomboid  (back this up if any saves are important to you) and the contents of C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid , go into Properties, select Betas tab then select Beta from the menu. Hit OK, and try to PZ  -- it'll redownload and reinstall.

On start up, don't set any options. Don't open the options panel.

Start a new game with a new character.

Does the problem persist?

There's now a thread for reporting this. Please post here:

Followed your steps exactly; problem persists.

While digging around, I noticed something interesting in ProjectZomboid/zombie/iso/IsoObjectPicker.class.

The coordinate calculations for ContextPick and Pick appear to be identical with the notable exception of a conditional wrapping a block of statements within ContextPick, namely:

line 112: if (Core.getInstance().OffscreenBuffer != null)
I'm going to comment it out and see if anything happens. :D

EDIT: The hotfix resolved the issue for me. 44 kB of sheer joy ^_^

Hardware:

CPU: e8400

8 gigs of ram

Graphics Card: ATI HD7950.

Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit

native resolution:1680 x 1050

Beta Enabled

Removed zomboid folder and deleted local content

Tested on Windowed and Full Screen

set on lowest resolution:          1024x768

also tested on native resolutioin: 1680 x 150
also tested on:                    1280 x 800 (full screen only)

tested on 32 and 64 bit normal executables. tested also on compatability mode 64 bit allowed for use of context menu. did not test on 32 bit compatibility mode.

comments: The context menu actually does show up very rarely. The game has smoother fps (slightly), but seems to run much more sluggishly for me, especially while zoomed out. the "stutter" people are referring to may be something i noticed. the character suddenly jumps over about a tile every once in a while.

also tried turning off multicore rendering on 64 bit executable full screen native resolution. no difference.
