Zombiekiler0113
So my friend and I want to play the game together, and I want to know if I can make a world we can both play on together using the solo option on the main menu. If not, that can I do to play together?
CaptKaspar
Do you mean that you want to play the same world as each other, but only play one at a time solo in it? Like when you log off your friend can start playing where you left off and vice versa? I think this could be done with some clever use of dropbox or something similar. I know a while back some members of the community were sharing the same game world after their characters died and passing it on to another member. The new player would come across their old safehouses, loot, etc. It was a pretty cool idea back before the devs added in random status of buildings in relatively recent updates. If you mean that you want to play a private game together with just the two of you in the same world, then the answer is a definite yes! However, doing this by selecting the solo option I do not believe is possible. Solo is for single player. Multiplayer is what the Co-op and Online options are for. The only differences between solo play and multiplayer are that there is no sleep or speeding up time in MP. By doing a search here on the forums you can find guides on how to set up your own private server (it costs nothing, but requires a little bit of IT know-how. Or at least the ability to follow directions ) or how to set up a local co-op game.
Zombiekiler0113
I DO want to make a private server for us both to play on at the same time, and only us, but all other guides I have found are too complicated or a don't trust them. I would rather not download some program, due to viruses I might obtain, as this has happened before. Can you link me a guide? Please and thank you. CaptKaspar
I am assuming you are using Steam. Download the Project Zomboid Dedicated Server on Steam by going to: Library>Tools>Project Zomboid Dedicated Server Then launch the server (it will be under tools and not games). Open these ports on your router: 8766 and 8767 (UDP), 16259-16262 (TCP/UDP) *you will need 1 additional port open for each additional player* for instance I have 16259-16270 open on mine. You will need to have your friend connect to your external IP address and you may need to enter both your external IP address as well as your local IP address. This is done in-game under the 'online' tab. If when connecting you get a P2P connection error. Try launching this file: C:Steam>steamapps>common>ProjectZomboidDedicatedServer>StartServer64 (or 32) instead of launching the server through Steam.
