It was aiming to be an MMOFPS Zombie Survival game.  I've been following it for a long time, and on the forums, the last dev post was "Changing times and merging teams." Thankfully, in between the time I wanted to have a game like this, PZ came along.

The last post on the site, was back in 2012 stating it wasn't dead. The last post on the forums was in 2013 where they merged with another team. Nothing since. I still check every so often just for some announcement.

Have a read of the forums and their old post and see how you'd feel about the game. I believe there's a few videos and there is some screenshots. Maintaining the old look of the forums though makes me feel nostalgic. Hopefully you'll think it was looking to be a cool game and/or the intended features were cool. Maybe it was too ambitious? Yes. But man, at least, in one way, it helped my cravings for a game like PZ to come along.

The site and forums are still up so it makes me wonder if there's still hope.

I've seen tons of dead projects that had forums still active (Some only existed because people liked the community and sticked around for project unrelated reasons)

Hell, I saw some sites that survived for 5+ years despite having no new content of any kind at all. I generally treat everything that had more than a year without an update to be completely dead and buried because the amount of projects I know that came back from such limbo is equal to the amount of fingers a drunk lumberjack has.

Shh, don't hurt my feelings.

Seriously, over the course of a few years they had nothing major to show. It just reminds me of the time I was the age every kid would look up "Free 3D Zombie FPS". PZ changed me, unlike others who would only settle for it if it was FPS. When I saw PZ had literally everything I wanted, I was a changed person.

I think it's the second game I bought, ever, online. After The Binding of Isaac. Now I have so many games I actually don't know what to play.

At least the community can live on and imagine what would have been.

I know far too many dead projects to even name.

It's what really makes me respect the entirety of the TIS team, they've encountered robberies, literal explosions (I remember reading that some idiot blew up a car in their street, everybody had to be evacuated), the bankruptcy of Desura, etc.

It's almost like John McClane settled down to do some game development.

There was a project that, initially, I was following as much as Project Zomboid (There REALLY were not a lot of good zombie games back in 2011-2012).

Then it stopped giving any updates, basically it felt like the project died. It was, initially, at the same time the "dark days" for Project Zomboid have occured, and I lost hope of ever seeing a great zombie game show light, forever left with left 4 dead wannabes with their first person shooter counterparts.

I forgot about this game until very recently, when I felt nostalgic and tried to check one online browser zombie game which I used to spend my free time on (die2nite I think it was), and while telling about it to my friend, I also decided to check around the net about this other game, and was really surprised to see that the creator became active again, in 2015 no less, and continued working on it. If someone was to describe it, it's like Project Zomboid, but for mobile phones. At one point it even looked better than PZ and had more "shown" features (I don't think it ever had a playable demo), which is why I was so sad to see it go. Years down the line, it doesn't look as ambitious as before, probably far behind Project Zomboid now in terms of features, but still awesome nonetheless.

I guess if anyone else wants to vent their feelings about something they were watching for years only for it to fail and share some interesting games and ideas that ended up not happening, go ahead. :)

So i will add Rawbots to the list of unfinished pearls. I loved the visual programming part of it but the devs never get to introduce a multiplayer part. The last message was about testing it on local sessions... after that i never heard from them again. It even got a steam greenlight :/

There are still some videos of playermade contraptions on youtube.

I had already signed up for Die2Nite, never played it though so I'm trying it now.

Another game was actually Rogue Survivor, anyone remember that? It's still playable and quite fun, but the problem was the developed move onto Rogue Survivor 2, a full 3D game and then it died, along with it's still-in-alpha Rogue Survivor.

Rawbots looked cool though. :(

Welcome to the thread of complete and utter disappointment.  (tophat)

Hope it goes well.

God damn i hope that project keeps Rogue Survivor afloat, i loved that game and i always compared it to the initial demo of Project Zomboid, when PZ had the first demo i always thought that the final product would be like a more polished Rouge Survivor with more content but in that enclosed map, i was so wrong.

Does Van Buren count?

Yes, I'd love to play it, as would many others. I loved Fallout 1, played it before Fallout 4 came out.

New Vegas pretty much borrowed a lot of the elements of Van Buren.

But if you really need to scratch that itch, play Wasteland 2.

As for the OP, i think ZDay was way in 2011 i think, i remember when i first stumble upon the Project Zomboid page and i was looking for some zombie game to scratch my itch, i think i saw some sort of GModesque Zombie MMO and there was a guy in a lone road with a FAMAS and i think that was ZDay, then i found out of Project Zomboid in a image next in google search.

Its been quite a while now, jesus i wonder if Dead Frontier is still kicking.

Just in case there was a misunderstanding, I was talking about Zombox ^_^

No misunderstanding, I just took interest to Die2Nite halfway through. :P

Zombox actually looked quite cool.

"looked quite cool", everything shown that wasn't released is cool. I mean, the GTA "clone" if you could say, Eight Days, looked cool. I'm sure anyone looking up GTA V gameplay stumpled upon it.

It is indeed, still alive. Well, from earlier this year at least. I had an amazing time in that game one night. Four of us left from the starting area, barely anything with us. Made it to another area. How many of us made it? 2, I think. Me, and someone else. We were all strangers, and I never did find that guy again but it's one of my fondest memories of that game.
