Hello, now I was sure this would be suggested at some point or another, but I haven't really seen it around in suggestions anywhere, if it was I'm sorry I did look through the list somewhat. Anyway, I was thinking, anyone who survived for decent amount of time currently probably would feel the same.

So right now once you get set up, build or secure your safe house, stack up food, get a farm going, the game really loses a lot of its former tension and gives you very little reason to go out there again, instead people just hunker down and enter sleep/wake/sleep/wake/harvest/sleep/wake cycle. And there is really no in-game event that really prevents the player from doing that, the threat is suddenly gone.

So here is the actual idea, world in the game actually every now and again spawning a horde out of the view of the player or just on the edge of it, that would wander in the general direction of the players safe house and as time went on the hordes would get bigger over time and more resource consuming to deal with, I think it would give people who have survived for extensive periods something to do, something to worry about, something to have to constantly deal with instead of simply hiding in their cubbyhole and never coming out of it, also it would be a reason to get back out there and look for resources to fight back the horde. After all, the game always begins with "There is no hope of survival, this is how you died".

Or a little bit less invasive version would be having several hordes on the whole map constantly wandering from place to place randomly, having big numbers(most likely several hundred at a time) it would be something you cant just deal with by picking of one zed at a time, but rather it would be a threat that would exist with a chance of one day arriving at your door, where you would have to sit behind barricaded windows and pray they don't know you are in there.

Now feel free to tell me if you like or dislike the idea, I just thought as someone who have survived for months on end and didn't have anything to do, it would be something to spice it up a little bit.

And to add last, I did try to play with High/Insane amounts of zombies, to me it really makes the game more of a chore where you have to get out bash a few, rest, bash a few, rest etc. etc. I like the base normal amounts of zombies/survival mode, that you can dodge and avoid instead of having to go rambo every five steps just to get to another house.

Welcome!

Yeah, hordes have been mentioned in the past and are something actively being worked on.

Another thing being developed is the 'sadistic AI director' that will ensure challenges are thrown in the player's direction.

This could be a horde, as in your suggestion. It could be a gang of NPC raiders (once they are implemented). It could even be a surprise cold snap that causes your crops to fail and forces you out your base. The possibilities are endless!

So yep, afraid this suggestion is already on the list of stuff the devs are planning. Don't despair though, because that means it was a good idea!

As someone who built a huge base with an overly large farm to survive on... yes I would love to see new threats arrive on my doorstep. I built a base with no ground level entrances and used log walls on the first floor of a 16x24 tile base, took forever. I did so because I was trying to expect the unexpected, hell I kept thinking a zombie horde might shamble out of the forest at any moment from all the tree chopping I was doing.

Know how much zombie traffic my base has seen since it was constructed? One, just one zombie who seems to have gotten lost in the trees by a nearby house, I found them while out chopping trees preparing for winter. Now a lot of why I haven't seen any zombies is because of me, I spent a good deal of time clearing out the areas in all directions from my base. Still I think zombies need AI that makes them wander all over the place, not just follow the routine if noise chase player if no noise bang head on nearest wall/door, or shamble in radom direction a few paces.

I built a ton of rain catcher barrels expecting droughts. Even the idea of the barrels doesn't make much sense, I mean we are leaving large pools of water out exposed. What mosquito's don't like water in Kentucky? Things just don't fall into open water sources ether? Why does none of this water evaporate in the summer? Personally I think there should be something we could build to transfer the water caught in the barrels to a less exposed location nearby, other then the player just manually transporting it. Like perhaps a valve on the bottom which lets you gravity drain the water to a lower level reserve, if the barrel is on higher level or your roof. Just put some PVC piping in the game, could be found at warehouses and hardware stores as well.

I'm looking forward to NPC's in game both friendly survivors and those out to take what I have, as well as more zombie threats. I still want there to be ways to survive indefinatly with good planning and a bit of luck, but I want there to be more problems for you to deal with. I want my character to seriously consider banding together with some NPC's for survival because they realize it's better odds for everyone involved. I also think it would be interesting if some of them might betray you at a critical moment.

Alright, good to see something like this already being worked on, I was somewhat expecting it being in the plans somewhere down the line, just wasn't sure whether or not it would be in a near future, since as it is I enjoy the game tremendously, just the late game currently didn't have much of a punch after all, great to see we are going to have something to worry about and then some, I also hope this sadistic AI will be customizable in the sandbox to let us play around with it since people like me enjoy rough roads full of bumps on the way to survival where even over-preparation might not be enough.
