What are your favourite weapons?

It seems that most people prefer the axe, but it's just so rare early-game that I usually stick with a (nailed) baseball bat and by the time I have enough axes, my blunt weapon skill is so high that I can't be arsed to level up the blade skill. By this point, I usually switch to a spade. It's light (1.5 weight), VERY fast and does a ton of damage. Of course, it has it's issues. It has low durability and it's very rare, but ultimately, you get to enjoy damage almost comparable to the axe with the knockback of the bat.

I also always carry around a knife/hunting knife. I always switch to this if a runner is chasing me, makes the kill much safer and faster (depends on lag, but it works great in SP).

As for ranged weapons, shotgun is obviously the king here, but with a high aiming skill, a pistol is so effective in neighbourhoods with lower zombie density that I sometimes even use it as the primary weapon. On the other hand, I haven't found any use for the hunting/varmint rifle. Sure, the range and damage are amazing, but the reload time just makes it somewhat impractical. I guess things will change once we can shoot down from buildings...

 

So these are my favourite weapons, what are yours? Do you prefer to stab zeds with a fork just for RP/bragging rights, or are you so unlucky that you have to stick with a frying pan until mid-game? Discuss...

Shotgun all the way, i just cleared 100-200 zombies around GIGA mart with insane zombies.

I love the axe but I use the bat(no spikes) more then any thing else to kill zed's. I would say the bat my best weapon. But The axe get it done. And my last 10 games have all been with insane zombies on so you need a axe.

Everything else causes exertion too easily for my taste (axe).

 

I don't count guns because they are not a renewable/sustainable source. Bat is super easy to maintain and really only functions as a weapon, axes I save for chopping trees.

 

That and once I clear the bulk of a town and get all the ammo, I go on a horde hunting spree until I'm out of ammo.

I remember in one game I had a LOT of success with a golf club.

 

I know it isn't the hardest-hitting weapon, but the reach of it was really useful for keeping enemies out of scratching range.

Hunting Knife/Kitchen Knife. That instant death attack is just too good.

Vonholtz, why don't you spike your bats?

 

I like the axe. I usually don't put any points into the bat, even if it takes a while to find an axe.  Early on I scavenge for rocks and branches to make axes for chopping trees.  I've never tried using a homemade axe in combat. I wonder if they are as good as a "real" axe.
