I'm hunting for sound effects for TGP, and wound up signing up with SoundSnap.

It's about £20 or so for 100 sfx/ 1 month, all cleared and legal. It's a really nice friendly, easy-to-use site and the effects are of an abnormally high quality- they're professionally recorded, so blend in so much better than the other public domain effects I'm using.

You can get 5 for free, and then there's a range of options for payment. If I turned over more games per year, I'd look at an annual - but if you're looking for soemwhere to fill an audio gap quickly and cheaply, I give them a big thumbs up.

:)

Been having a browse on this site, sounds are excellent. Will likely be paying for the month membership.

It used to be free... (and owned by a Greek guy! I'll see if I can get a free registration for being Greek! :D)

It certainly is a nice website, with tons of sfx... Not actually sure, since the sfx were made by members, who should be getting something, then again running a website this big also means expenses... dunno really. ;)

Just buy a microphone, get some sound creation/manipulation software and make your own. It's a lot more fun :D

I've been having some success with The freesound project. Not a humungous range yet but the licensing is good (Creative Commons plus so you can use them in games/mash them up in other ways but not redistribute them on their own).

Any other free or cheap sound places I'd be interested to hear it. I guess £60 isn't that bad if the 100 sounds I got there were really great.

I'm an 'old skool member' on this now, because of the pricing update. I'm so glad I signed up for this a while ago. The 5 free sounds a month are really useful. I've been adding sound to TLG a bit at a time, and it is so much better than trawling through dubious 'free' sites for rubbish sounding effects...
